Originally posted by Obey The D They can always just go the standard hollywood route and dismiss 3 and 4 as a "dream". The opening sequence of "Aliens" where Ripley is awakened in her hospital bed and told the facts of how she got there...then in the middle of it her stomach starts swelling up and it's the alien...but then it turns out to be a bad dream....well doesn't that mean that all those facts that were relayed to her were only part of a dream and therefore potentially false?? |
I liked Alien3 a lot.
Trying to duplicate Alien 2 is what hurt Alien 4 so much. Alien3 was original and depressing and all about how the Alien's have taken away everything Ripley has... EVERYTHING. I liked it, and I think it's silly to say it's bad because it killed some great characters. Say it's bad for other reasons. |
I dunno….sounds like a really bad idea to me. Personally, I’d prefer the franchise return to its horror movie roots. But should another installment reach the theaters, I’m sure I’ll end up seeing it—even if it is just another bug hunt.

Alien 3 killed the franchise, a total piece of crap.
4 isn't even worth mentioning. Bring Arnold in? Why not? |
They made an Aliens vs Predator arcade game that had Arnold's Dutch and the Predators teaming up to **** up some Aliens. Dutch had some armour and a cannon mounted to one arm.

i agree that alien 3 killed the franchise. it's pathetic that ripley risked all at the end of aliens to save newt just so she and beihn can be killed off panel in such an unrespectful way.

Probably the only way I would be interested in this is if part 5 ignored 3 and 4. Otherwise, I think the franchise will be digging an even deeper grave for itself after it came up with the cockamamie idea in part 4 of cloning Ripley in order to continue the series.
It would take a lot of nerve though to actually start part 5 by erasing the last two from existence. (Well, on second thought, kind of no worse than the way part 3 began by erasing all of Cameron's supporting characters from existence.) I agree the only way this could be done would be to consider it a dream. But the whole "just a dream" explanation always seems like a major cop-out to me, and the movie would have to work hard to gain my acceptance. Besides, didn't Ripley suggest at the end of part 2 that because she had confronted her nightmares, she would finally be able to sleep peacefully? Maybe part 5 should start with an apology scrolling up the screen. Or Wayne and Garth saying, "That's not the way to end the movie!", and then they wave their arms around and backtrack to where part 2 ended. Other sequels have ignored their predecessors before. (I kind of think Die Hard 3 pretends part 2 never existed.) But I'm not sure how Alien 5 can effectively dismiss the events of the last two films. |

sounds cool I dont know how they will work this on in but I do like the idea of the dream sequence for 3 and 4
|
I'm all for 3 & 4 being bad dreams. Can anyone think of a sequel that used this ploy before? Someone mentioned "Die Hard 3" ignored 2, but 3 never actually called 2 a dream.
The only example I can think of is actually a TV show, "Dallas," and the dream idea pretty much killed this popular show. Its ratings dipped after Patrick Duffy's character was killed off, so a year later the producers brought him back by explaining his death--and an entire season of shows--never happened because another character had dreamed it. It erased a season's worth of crappy storylines, but it also sealed the show's fate because more viewers quit watching it. I don't think the dream idea for "Alien 5" would go over well at the box office (even though I like the dream idea). |

I'm sure the facehuggers & warriors would take one look at the stupid Batman outfit and die laughing. End of movie. |

Alien 5: who would be a good choice to direct?
I was chatting with a buddy the other night about the possibility of a fifth Alien movie. We both agreed that the use of different directors (and their particular styles) is a good trend to continue. With that in mind, we also agreed that David Cronenberg would be a primo choice to direct another installment. Considering his oeuvre, need I say more?
Comments and alternatives? |
what, resurrection wasn't wacky enough for ya?!?!
i dunno...singer comes to mind. |
Tim Burton
David Lynch |
Give Fincher another shot.
|
Singer? Eh...
Burton? I'd put him in the same quirky neighborhood as Jeunet (I'd include Del Toro in here as well) which could be redundant. Lynch? Maybe... Cronenberg still strikes me as an excellent candidate as the concept of the aliens meshes so well with the themes he likes to explore (that of generally icky things happening to the human body). :) George Romero might be another good choice. |
I'd be more concerned with the writer...
|
Takashi Miike :D

<b>GUILLERMO DEL TORO</b> (<i>Cronos, Blade II, Devil's Backbone</i>)

McG!
Seriously though, I bet Tim Burton could make a pretty f-ed up and cool Alien movie. Johnny Depp can play Ripley's long lost son |
Cronenberg and Luc Besson come to mind. I wish Besson would direct more, I miss his stuff.
|
Ridley Scott, Ridley Scott, and oh...
Spoiler:
Make 5 the concluding film, for real. |

Ridley Scott. I'd like to see it harken back to the more primitive times of the original, when you didn't have to SEE it to be scared. That or just a really great action oriented one, I think Scott could do either.
|
Cameron!
Let him make his 500 million $ movie! |
Hasn't the tradition been with each Alien film to give it to an up and coming director? Everyone mentioned has been a good choice, but I'd rather see it given to someone much less known, like Glen Morgan or Michel Gondry.
|
I say bring Cameron back in the mix.
|
Let Scott end the series!
But then I'll have to buy the 15 disc Alien: Big Ass DVD set...jeez.. |
Guy Maddin
|
Peter Jackson!!!
Just kidding . . . :D . . . although, I think it would be interesting to see what kind of spin he would put on it . . . |
