How about nobody! How about don't even bother making it, and come up with something new.
There's no need for an Alien 5. It would be pointless. Peter Jackson!!! |
As if Brian Robbins wouldnt direct it:
Here's a sneak preview of a pivotal scene from the new film, Alien 5: Good Alien. Dr Gediman (Brad Douriff's character from Resurrection) talking to the Queen Alien with Newt in his grasp: "Welcome to Good Alien , home of the Good Alien, can I take your order, huh?" Ripley moves in... Queen Alien and Dr Gediman quickly turn around as they hear the footsteps. Ripley to the Queen Alien: I'm a dude. He's a dude. She's a dude. 'Cause we're all dudes, and by the way, let you of her you bi!*h, hey!! ...and you know what? Its been a really long time since we had a GOOD ALIEN Film!! :) |
seriously though, how about Scott & Cameron co-directing? :)
|
Cameron still directs films? :)
|
I was under the impression that Cameron only directed movies about sunken ships nowadays. ;)
|
I would love to see Woody Allen take on this project.
|
Terry Gilliam!!!
|
David Twohy
I think he has potential to bring back some of the intensity reminiscent of the first couple of Alien films. The only thing I don't want for an Alien 5 movie is the introduction of "new, and improved" Aliens ala Tremors. If an alien impregnates a bird and begins to fly, I'm outta there. |

Sigourney Weaver Talks the Longevity of the ALIEN Franchise, Her Initial Trepidations to Play Ripley, and Whether She Would Return for a New ALIEN Sequel
Weaver on what the future holds for Ripley and the Alien franchise: I feel after going to a couple of these Comic Cons and meeting so many fans who are so passionate about the series, passionate about Ripley — that there’s more story to tell; but I don’t know how to do that. I don’t think Alien belongs on Earth popping out of a haystack, which is where I was afraid it was going to go. I feel it should take place in the far reaches of the universe where no one in their right mind would go. There are very few filmmakers that I can think of that I would want to entrust this to. But I can think of a couple… I feel there’s a longing in certain groups of fans when I meet them for the story to be finished because we really left it up in the air and I feel a bit badly about that because I was part of that decision making process. I didn’t want to make four and five in a bundle. I think it’s hard to make these films all in a big lump. You need time to sort of let things resonate so I can imagine a situation where we could at least finish telling her story. I think that would be very satisfying at least to me — although I haven’t done anything about it; but I can understand why that could happen and I certainly know young filmmakers who are interested in doing that. So we’ll just have to see what happens. |
Re: Alien 5 - News, rumors, etc.
Surprised she didn't mention Prometheus carrying the Alien torch right now. With her serving notice that she's open to another Alien movie I would imagine old scripts are being dusted off and revised. I wonder if another Alien movie could co-exist with Prometheus 2 and, possibly, 3?

I think it's possible. Get a slick director like Duncan Jones or Rian Johnson in there and it could be great. |

Re: Alien 5 - News, rumors, etc.
There should be a new Alien with Weaver and Michael Biehn as Hicks and Carrie Henn as Newt so we can pretend Alien 3 and Alien Whateveritiscalled don't exist.

Re: Alien 5 - News, rumors, etc.
As long as the alien is on earth and popping out of a haystack I am down with another one.

Re: Alien 5 - News, rumors, etc.
Wow. She really hates the idea of the aliens making it to Earth. Even as a fan of the character and series I don't need Sigourney Weaver to "finish the story."
The Aliens comics from Dark Horse that came out way-back-when are about as good a sequel to the James Cameron's film as we're going to get. http://random-happenstance.blogspot....nuity-had.html |
Re: Alien 5 - News, rumors, etc.
I'd rather see something play out with Prometheus. They could write in anything with the Aliens. Xenomorphs invade the Engineer's home planet. Or more Xenomorphs on a cargo ship, with the Engineers (though that feels like more of a retread).

Re: Alien 5 - News, rumors, etc.
AvP is just fine. It's AvP:R that need not exist.
|
Re: Alien 5 - News, rumors, etc.
AvP is not just fine. Not at all.
|
Re: Alien 5 - News, rumors, etc.
Meh. AVP was pretty mediocre too. I'd rather have both die.
|
Re: Alien 5 - News, rumors, etc.
The Alien franchise needs to die already. After Cameron's Aliens you have IMO 1 ok film (Alien 3) and 4 turds in a row.
|
Re: Alien 5 - News, rumors, etc.
I don't care if Weaver comes back or not. Why interested all of a sudden? Is she not getting work anymore?

AvP was interesting how it combined our ancient history with the Alien and Predator mythos. However, it ruins the idea of the aliens themselves. They come across less alien if they've been with humans, and on Earth, this whole time. Ripley struggling to destroy the colony and derelict at LV-426, and sacrificing herself on a desolate prison planet, all so that the alien could never "infect" Earth was all for nothing then. |

make Alien 3 and Alien 4 Ripley's cryogenic nightmare.
|
Re: Alien 5 - News, rumors, etc.
After re watching Alien Resurrection again since seeing it when it first came out, it's a hell of a lot better than I remember and better than Alien 3 and the AvP movies.

Plus, Perlman and most of the cast are pretty awesome. |
Re: Alien 5 - News, rumors, etc.
It was good until Alien babby. That part sucked hard.
|
Where does babby come from?!
|
Re: Alien 5 - News, rumors, etc.
The best thing about Alien Resurrection were the closing credits telling me that this disaster was finally over.
|
Re: Alien 5 - News, rumors, etc.
Resurrection isn't better than Alien 3, but it's got some interesting ideas that suffer from improper execution. I actually like the face of the hybrid baby, but the design of the body is so bizarre.

I could do with another chapter in the Alien saga. (I'll take a follow up to Predators too, please.) As for another Ripley story ... Don't need it, don't want it. Sigourney can kid herself all she wants, but there is not more of Ripley's story needing to be told. Ripley died. "Game over, man." |
Re: Alien 5 - News, rumors, etc.
alien 3 ruins the ending in aliens. so alien 3 sucks for the reason.
|
AR isn't terrible, IMO. It picks an interesting writer and director, but the film itself is something of a mess, though a handful of scenes are fascinating-the aborted hybrids, the water sequence, and the final sequence is interesting in conception, if not execution. The biggest problem is that it's kind of pointless-whatever you think of the third film (and it has a few fans), it's at least a rather conclusive ending. The fourth one feels like they're dragging it back out for more cash, it has a slightly off-the-wall premise that sounds almost DTV on paper. In execution, it's pretty flawed, but kind of interesting in places.

Spoiler:
I also don't hate Aliens 4, because I love everything Jean Pierre-Juenet has done. It was bold of Fox to hire an auteur coming right off of City of Lost Children (a masterpiece, IMO) to do that film. |
Re: Alien 5 - News, rumors, etc.
Actually, when you consider the choices they made for the first three Alien films (Scott and Fincher had only done commercials, and Terminator wasn't even out when they signed Cameron for Aliens), choosing Jeunet was right in line.

The Aliens comics from Dark Horse that came out way-back-when are about as good a sequel to the James Cameron's film as we're going to get. I remember that an early tagline for Alien III was "On Earth everybody can hear you scream." And the unfilmed draft by William Gibson didn't feature Ripley, but instead focused on Hicks and Bishop. Then, Alien^3 came out, and it didn't take place on Earth and Ripley was killed off. Ripley's death smacks of contract negotiations, like "Okay, I'll do this movie, but I don't want to do anymore, so I want my character to be killed off." I really doubt Fox would want to kill off Ripley unless it was the actor's insistence. And then, I remember after Alien^3 came out that Weaver made some kind of comment during an interview about not doing a fourth Alien movie unless they were able to clone Ripley using her fingernail clippings. Then we get Alien Resurrection with a clone of Ripley and still no Earth, at least until the end when all of the aliens are dead. It seems like a lot of the bad storytelling decisions are coming from Weaver. |
