Mark Steven Johnson to do Ghost Rider (merged)

The only thing that bugs me is when they have Cage say "I'm Ghost Rider" it sounds dumb as hell nad makes me not want to see it.

Loved the comic. This trailer makes the movie look terrible however. The effects look cheesy and Cage's performance looks underwhelming. Adding a love story is also pointless and stupid.

Yeah, can't say I'm too enthusiastic - the "I feel like my head's on fire" line they are beating to death in the trailer is particularly groanworthy. If that's what the writers think is "funny" I shudder to think what they think is "cool".

I'm a mild GR fan, I've read the comics and once owned his first app (Johnny Blaze and Dan Ketch).
I remember drawing him in 6th and kids teased me that I was a devil worshipper.
I'm hoping against odds that something in this movie will be cool or memeroable, but why have a love interest? Every superhero movie does. This should have been a "Blade"-type of movie; dark, antihero, violent.
Now with the no press screening...ouch, this might be bad...
How can you make a film where the lead's head is a flaming skull, suck?

Those morons have all been brainwashed by the director and producers into thinking the screening situation is a GOOD thing.

Or it so good and you want people to be taken by complete surprise.....but I think that has been the case....oh, right, never.

I had such incredibly low expectations for this film and I don't think it is entirely unfounded. I hated Daredevil. Hated. I don't use that word lightly in describing a film because I know how hard it is just to get a film made and a miracle if one is actually enjoyable. But I hated the holy living fuck out of Daredevil. I hated the casting. I hated the CG. I hated the costume. I hated the cinematography and if I was on set, I'm sure I would've hated the catering. Mostly importantly, I hated the script and direction Mark Steven Johnson churned out.
However, now with 10 hours to go before my screening of Ghost Rider, I'm finding myself looking forward to it. I figure if I want to get some enjoyment out of this flick, I better lower my expectations. And fast. Quick, somebody point me to a recent TV spot, some merchandising, anything that shows how potentially bad this film will stink! The future of enjoyment is in your hands.

7 new clips up, don't about this one yet, probably go in with really low expectations and just have a good popcorn flick.

I caught a screening of this film earlier today and let me come right out and say it, I dug this flick. Considering my thoughts about Daredevil (2 posts up for you lazy bastards), I thought Johnson stepped up the plate and delivered a (mostly) enjoyable film. With this sort of subject matter, the movie could have easily strayed too far into either the cheesy column or wallowed around in it's own angst. Luckily for the audience the proceedings are kept relatively light and fun.
Nic Cage is unusually subdued in this and delivers a great performance as Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider. What can I say about Eva Mendes? Her role is superfluous other than being eye candy which I'm the last one to argue about considering she is hotter than ever in this film! Sam Elliott ordinarily raises any character beyond what is on the page and he continues that tradition here in what is essentially an expository role. Peter Fonda - could never fault him before and I'm not about to start. His final scene is complete cheese but hey, it's Peter fucking Fonda (as I think he prefers to be credited), I'll let this one slide.
On to the bad. Wes Bentley as Blackheart. I'm not saying this guy is a bad actor but he was woefully miscast. Think of all those student films where the filmmakers cast their friends as the bad guys. That's the vibe I get from watching Bentley trying to act tough.
The dialogue is at often times corny with some scenes downright cliched however the short running time keeps the film chugging along at a decent pace so thankfully the audience won't have to sit through them for long. There are some out and out horrendous editing choices and overall I think it's obvious there have been major trims, even complete removal, of some subplots I hope to see restored on DVD. The first transformation of Cage into the Ghost Rider is mostly quite well done, the flesh burning off looked fantastic although they copped out by covering certain sections with a wall of flame. I wonder if this was an edit forced by the MPAA since I was hoping to see the full effect on his face, specifically his eyes. The flame effects themselves were quite excellent although the skull looked too CG. The fractures were a nice touch, however.
Light spoiler for the ending:
Overall, I think fans and general movie-goers should be pleased with the end result. It won't set the world on fire but it's a good way to kill a couple of hours.
That's all I feel like writing so I hope it was helpful!

Thanks for the review! Unlike what seems to be a lot of people here, I'm actually interested in seeing this and thought from the previews that it looked like a fun movie to see.

Well I'm going as soon as possible tomorrow (1015am at AMC).
Low expectations, like many have said, but as long as its a fun little ride (FincherFan seems to think so), I might enjoy it.
Here's hoping...
If this one bombs, looks like 3rd tier heroes will wait for a long while to be silver screened.
