From quite a few reviews that i've read (fan reviews, not critics) , people say it's a pretty fun flick, nothing earth changing. That sounds good to me. And I have no interest in seeing it, so it doesn't matter to me, i'm just saying what i've been reading.

I think the DVDTalk review got it just right.
It's not a bad film, just a story that really didn't need to be told. Other superheros are far more interesting than Ghost Rider.
But Eva's cleavage was superb.

I saw it today and liked it a whole heck of a lot. It's not great but it is fun. The only let down for me was that that finale was rather anticlimactic and the final scene with Mephisto was really bad. Also, am I alone in assuming that lot was left on the cutting room floor?
Still, all the bad aside, it was quite enjoyable and worth seeing at least once.

I was appauled on how horrible it was. Its structure was mimiced from Daredevil-characters intro, origins, arc of redemption, love interest, villians plans and intros, and its ending ripped off Blade 1.
Bad acting, script was full of cliches, poor metaphors (Curse of the Demon, c'mon forshadow a little more subtle MSJ), and was too long.
Sure GR was cool to look at but damn this film blew.
Grade

I guess I'm in the minority amongst those who have seen it here, because I absolutely hated the movie. I didn't have high expectation, I wasn't expecting a masterpiece, just a fun two hours at the show - but I may have only gotten a fun 15 minutes.
The movie's called Ghost Rider, so you would assume it would get better when Johnny Blaze "suits up" but it sort of gets ridiculous. I can and have liked cheesy movies - but this is bad cheese.
Mark Steven Johnson got hosed with Daredevil, the DC shows that the man can put together a quality movie, but he shows almost no sign of it. I've seen better character introductions on a Sci-Fi Channel movie.
Honestly - I think I might have enjoyed Elektra more than Ghost Rider....and that's not a good thing.

I'll pick up the SE when it comes out. If it gets the Punisher, Hellboy and Daredevil Director's Cut treatments on DVD (each of these films played much better as DC's than theatrical) then I'll give it a shot.

A $40 million opening will not guarantee a sequel, although I'm sure the studio will be discussing it on Tues. morn. Remember, other than Norbit, GR is opening against very little competition. I think the amount of its second weekend % drop will determine whether it merits a sequel.

I liked it. Wasn't great and Bentley was terrible, but overall, I had fun. I thought the effects work for Ghost Rider was actually pretty damn good and the flaming skull looked cool as hell on the screen. I think the script had some serious problems and the lack of a decent villain (plus, Sam Elliot's final scene was extremely weak and awkward), but I had fun and it had some moments that were extremely cool. I think this is another case where the NEXT film in the series could be the movie most people who are hating this movie actually wanted to see.
I know a lot of people just hate MSJ after Daredevil, and people seem to despise Nic Cage as much as they do Affleck and can't stand the movie because of that...well, I like Cage.... not always, but I don't just hate him out of principle. Was he great in this? No. Was he unwatchable? Never. I think he did a fine job with what he was given, and I don't think he was an awful choice, so I just enjoyed the movie for what it was...a big effect laden B-movie that makes for a decent matinee. And on that front, it delivered big time. Anyone expecting "Batman Begins" is going to be disappointed...but I knew going in what this was, and I came out satisfied.

Woe is me said the long time Ghost Rider fan! A terrible, terrible film. But what could one expect from Nicolas Cage, the worst actor on the A list? And needless to say, it wasn't all his fault. In fact, the rest of the cast was a lot worse than him (Eva Mendes and Wes Bentley especially). I can guarantee that I'm the biggest Ghostie fan on this board, and I REALLY wanted to like something about this movie! The special effects were even horrible. I guess if we are to force a saving grace, I would say that Ghost Rider's fighting style, movement, look, and voice were all surprisingly faithful to the comic (though his dialogue was Hollywood-ized). Also Sam Elliott was good for what he was. Thumbs down or *1/2 out of ****.

if Marvel or whoever was smart, they should have cast unknowns for Daredevil and Ghost Rider. they would have saved a boatload of money that could have been used for special effects, then again Ghost Rider I think was made before Marvel took total control of thier movies. I would always go with unknowns, people will probally be disapointed again when Downey plays Iron man.
what no Stan Lee cameo? lol

I wonder how long it will take Avi Arad to announce a remake ala Hulk...hehehe.
IIG, I believe your right on all accounts. I love GR too, but as fo his movie-damn its horrendous.
Yes, Sam elliot was actually the best thing in here.

I kept dozing off in spots with this moribund film. With zero on-screen chemistry between Cage and Mendes, I had a hard time buying the "love" between them as a motivating factor in what Johnny Blaze did/does.
That's about as kind as I can be (beside saying that Sam Elliott's performance was the high point, the rest was rather pedestrian).
I give it 1.75 stars, or a grade of C-.

As ghost rider fan I liked the movie. I thought they pretty much nailed ghost riders powers. Johnny wasn't much like he was in the comic but I like Cage's performance anyway. The worst thing about the movie were the bad guys. They were all taken down way to easy and the finale battle was a joke. Also even though I enjoyed the eye candy there was no real need Mendes.
All in all I wish it took a more serious tone like Batman Begins. I wanted Johnny screaming in pain during each transformation. I wanted johnny to feel completed trapped and all hope lost. With that said I still liked it. I would have liked it even if I didn't know about ghost rider already but probably not as much.

Just saw it today. I had the same reaction to this film as I did Daredevil. It was one of those not bad, not good movies. There were some good stuff in it. But not enough to give it a thumbs up. I agree the punk villans were horrible. Wes Bentley especially. And I liked his performance in American Beauty. I can't completely blame him though, the director should have noticed the horrid dialouge the character was spewing and changed that on the set.
