Nemesis was way better than Insurrection, so at least they were moving in the right direction. Still First Contact has been the best so far.

Nemesis is a decent action film but it works best if you take it on its own and don't ponder too deeply on the fact that it's a Star Trek film.

Insurrection is just bad no matter how you look at it. It had a good concept and the promise of a huge conflict with Starfleet but it all fell flat. I am curious to see what a CE of Insurrection would be like, though, since it seems stuff was cut at the last possible minute. In the end credits, Phillip Glasser is billed as Young Ru'afo but is never seen in the film. One can only wonder at what else was cut and if it could possibly fix some of the problems in the film.

I'm shocked that the TNG movies never featured Q considering how important he was in the series. Sure he didn't appear a whole lot but he did impact Picard greatly when he did appear.

Actually I'm waiting for a movie where they finally have all the cast from DS9, Voyager and TNG, now that would kick ass.

Kick ass? How many characters are we talking about here? How much exposition would they require? Are they all on the same ship/station? Fighting whom?

If anything, that would be a mess.

I can't think of a good reason for Q to come back after the series finale "All Good Things...".

It's because of that finale that I expected him to be in the movies. In that finale he insinuated a much greater journey of discover for Picard. So far all we've had is a few action/adventure films. Sure First Contact was great fun but I was hoping that all the films would have some greater purpose and themes mixed in and I think a few cameos by Q would have been the perfect way to do this without overwhelming the films and making them snooze fests, as such topics could run the risk of causing.

I remember early to midway in the development of Star Trek Insurrection there was talk that some of the DS9 and most of the Voyager cast member would make appearances toward the end of the film. There were rumours flying around that the rogue admiral in this film would have pitted those crews against Picard in an all out fight over the planet and then they'd eventually turn on him. Imagine my disappointment when I saw that rumour to not only be false but the film itself to be a well meaning mess.

And, yes, in retrospect, had they mixed all those characters together it would have been a mess unless it had been spread across two or three (very long) films.

this is modern trek movies, where they don't explain why the characters are there, or if they do they cut the scene. ie worf and crusher
worf was ambasador to the klingon empire when ds9 ended. in nemesis he's back with no explaination in the theatrical release
crusher ambandoned starfleet before graduating, royally screwed up a mission the enterprise was in, and almost started a war with cardassia. yet he's back with the rank of at least Lt. JG. With no explanation

Q can either resurrect Data or cause B4 to fully become Data in the next movie
Star Trek: Yeah I bitched about playing a non-aging character, but I can't find any other jobs.

Honestly, if Brent Spiner returns, I hope B4 doesn't become Data. They can have B4 evolve into another being with the aid of whatever memories Data left implanted in him (such a possibility is pretty clearly hinted at the end of Nemesis) but I don't want him to be Data again. Just a new character.

I feel it was a mistake ot kill of Data in such a cheap manner but it would be an even bigger mistake to bring him back. This was done with Spock and it would feel very lazy for them to simply rehash that story arc.

I agree 100%.

What hurts about Insurrection is that it could have been a very good film. It's worse when the trailers pretty much made it look like Picard and Co. declare war on Starfleet when nothing of the sort ever happens.

I don't know guys. When Geordi "sees" the sunset/dawn for the first time I get a lump in my throat everytime! Now the couch on Ru'Afo's bridge and the Joystick on the Enterprise bridge are two wholly different matters altogether. I also hated that little CGI gerbil running all over the place. Insurrection has moments of greatness, punctuated with gross silliness. I'm on the fence with this one. If I can like V and Generations, I can definately deal with Insurrection.

Yeah, that was by far the best scene of that movie, maybe even of all the TNG big screen adventures. Great acting by Levar Burton who definitely should have been given more to do in the movies. I think he was the only known actor among the TNG cast when the show started up.

The problem is that that scene is cut abruptly. Like I said before, Insurrection is well meaning but it doesn't stop being a mess. What makes this film so bad is not so much how poorly it was handled but how great it could have been.

He sacrificed himself to save his captain, everyone on the Enterprise, and possibly the entire Earth! How do you consider that to be "cheap"?

I wonder why they couldn't have rigged up two of those miniature transporter devices so Data would have been able to beam off the ship too.

Geordi watching the sunrise should have gone on for several more seconds, and in fact, there are many more scenes in that film that should have gone on longer. I can't remember them all as I've never bother to watch the movie since I sold off the DVD long ago. And I haven't bothered with Nemesis. If you knew me personally for any length of time, you'd find that a very shocking statement. I used to watch Wrath of Khan and say every line of dialogue. I was hardcore.

I was hoping the upcoming DVD of Insurrection would add in the needed scenes, but I don't think that's going to happen.

The sacrifice itself was fine but it was poorly executed. I really like Data but I didn't feel anything when he died, unlike when Spock died which really choked me up. I guess it's because it was too abrupt. Still, I like the film on it's own.

Per earlier dialogue, it was a prototype (a classic Trek plot device).
