Nemesis is frustrating because even though it wasn't a bad movie, it didn't bring a satisfactory close to TNG like I had hoped. The chances are slim to none that we'll ever see another TNG movie, so I guess we're stuck with it.
I'll buy it on DVD eventually though, but I'm holding out to see if they annouce a CE first.

I cannot understand all of the hate directed towards this Trek. It's not perfect, but it's not the pile of crud some would have you believe. I thought it was a nice way to end the Trek movie series, which it looks like it did considering it's lack of performance.
In short, yes, it's worth a blind buy if you can get it cheap.

Yeah, I remember the director announcing proudly that he had never watched an episode of TNG before making the movie. Like it was a selling point.

I hear a lot of bitching from ST fans about how bad Nemesis was, but TNG was really a mediocre series. I own all 7 seasons and over half the episodes are totally boring and unwatchable. Almost all of the complaints lodged against Voyager could also be made against TNG. DS9 also had it's fair share of bad episodes. I don't think Enterprise had one good episode.

Wasn't Nicholas Meyer the same way before TWOK? Though I believe the difference there was he sat down and watched every ep looking for a good story and found Space Seed before he filmed.
Having someone new the series can be a good thing, as they can bring a fresh new perspective, the only thing is, they need someone like one of us
to sit beside them and rein them in.

Thanks for all the responses, folks! I went ahead and did a blind-buy on it. Normally I would just have rented it (given the mixed reviews), but in this particular case the buying price was only about $1 more than the rental fee. Again, I really appreciate all the quick responses from you guys (and gals).

If I have a beef with Nemesis, it's that TPTB finally gave us a Trek movie with a substantial role for the Romulans, and what do they do? Do they draw on the considerable established lore of the Romulan people? Not really; they gave us a completely NEW villain and made the Romulans essentially supporting characters.
I don't think it's a bad movie. In fact, after having recently picked up (and watched) the Star Trek V CE, I can honestly say that I don't dislike any of the Trek movies. But I think Nemesis was, in some respects, a missed opportunity WRT the portrayal of the Romulans.

Was Nemesis the pinnacle of achievement in the Star Trek Feature film Universe? Well, no. I think that title rests squarely on the shoulders of TWOK and TVH(financially speaking). It is however an entertaining and at times exciting Trek entry. Yes, there are plot inconsistencies and the re-hash of the Wrath of Khan while not new wasn't that bad either. I would have preferred an original storyline just like the next guy but we didn't get that. What we got was a film that while largely fun, did not meet the expectations of most fans. Me, I enjoyed it. It looks good, sounds good and aside from Data's singing, and B4, was a very cool film. I do think that the powers that be @ Paramount need to give Trek something of a hiatus tho. The storyline was rather paper thin and may have been a darn sight better had some fresh eyes and minds pondered the film's plot and execution.

The TOS movies are without a doubt my favorite part of the series. Although I wasn't quite fond of Star Trek XXII: So Very, Very, Old.

But I would do a complete 180 degree turn on those thumbs. (Yes, I'm one of the few and proud who think that Insurrection is the best of the TNG movies... and I'm probably the only one on the planet who thinks that First Contact was the worst. Although Nemesis comes damn close.)

Nemesis was a pretty standard action flick set in the Star Trek universe, but I enjoyed it just for feeling a little bit different, and unlike its predecessor, for feeling like it belonged on the big screen.
