Lukas Moodysson (3 DVD boxset)

It appears that the UK is going to see the release of a 3 dvd set of Moodysson's works (including Moodysson's latest edgy film). So far there are only two releases available on the market in the UK Lilya 4-Ever...and Together. The third film set for a release is A Hole In My Heart.

Still no news as to a possible Fucking Amal anamorphic release...

Pre-order date May 16.

*Short review for A Hole In My Heart

I might have to pick that up. I didn't care much for Together, but I do really like Moodysson's films.

never seen any of these, but "A Hole In My Heart" sounds very very similar in theme and style to "Lilya 4-Ever". If the movies are so dark, what's the redeeming factor? exploitative, or just artsy?

I am not quite so sure how to respond to your question(s). Moodysson’s work is anything but exploitative. His latest films Lilya 4-Ever and A Hole In My Heart are what I would describe as "cinema verite"/altruistic (at least as far as the current living conditions in the former Soviet block are concerned). And quite frankly I find Lilya (perhaps together with La Promesse) to be one of the few films in the last couple of years that actually had some redeeming values.
With this said, indeed they could be rather difficult to watch.

Pro-B

Muggins you are getting a March 16th release so you dont have to wait for the UK set.

thanks for the response... definitely wasn't threadcrapping, just that the reviews sound so very bleak for his films, they don't really communicate what's special about them. I'd been thinking about picking up Lilya 4-Ever to give it a try, might do that.

only in the last few weeks have i discovered moodysson's works. in "lilja 4-ever" i found that rare occurrence where a film is revealed to be more than the sum of its parts, or simply 'transcendent'. i am eagerly awaiting this release of "hole in my heart". thanks, pro-b!

i assume the swedish release does not have english subtitles?

You're right, no english subtitles, according to dvdsverige.com

http://www.dvdsverige.com/p_ShowItem...y2=&Category3=

So the british release is very good news.

Will this include the same release of Lilya 4-Ever that is already out? Or will it be different? I think I am going to order this set since I only own Lilya right now. If it is the same release I will probably sell/trade my Lilya disc.

Pro-B,
Where will you order the boxset from? Amazon.uk had it listed and described, but now they have removed the description for some reason.

The Swedish release of A Hole in my Heart does have English subs. Or atleast that's what the cover says.

I can confirm that the Swedish release of "A Hole in My Heart" does have English subs, as I bought it last week. There are also Danish, Norwegian & Finnish subs included.
Note that a couple of the extras (such as music tracks & bios) don't appear on the English menu, but if you select another language as the disc starts up you'll get the full selection. The extra "A Second Hole in My Heart" has English subs, and another short film on the disc (not by Moodysson) doesn't appear to need any subs as far as I can tell.

Dazza.

Here's some VERY interesting update. According to PLAY.com the Moodysson boxset will contain not 3 but 4 of his films INCLUDING.....Fucking Amal aka Show me Love. If this turns out to be an anamorphic transfer...this could very well be the surprise of the year. Let's hope.....

Full specs: (courtesy of Play.com)

* Fucking Amal:
* 'Talk' Lukas Moodysson's first short film
* Trailer

* Together:
* Trailer
* Filmography
* Text interview

* Lilya 4-Ever:
* Guardian interview with Lukas Moodysson
* Lukas Moodysson trailer reel UNICEF film 'More Precious Than Gold'
* Amnesty International appeal promotional video

* A Hole In My Heart:
* Statement from director Lukas Moodysson
* Masterclass with director Lukas Moodysson
* 'A Hole In My Second Heart': a 'Making Of' featurette
* Trailer

Needless to say if Fuckin Amal comes out being 16/9...and why not, WHY NOT, I will get rid of this disc (below) ASAP....

Ciao,
Pro-B

Unless I am mistaken the previous anouncement at Amazon.co.uk never really mentioned Fucking Amal.

There may have been more than one version at different times. I remember being suprised that it was a four pack, plus its kind of strange that they later deleted everything including the box pic. [shrugs] Anyway, May seems like such a long way off...

Hmm...I understand now what you mean. I hope this four pack info stays though as I have been wishing for a 16/9 Fuking Amal for a long long time.

These are the only 16/9 versions available (not English friendly)

French

Danish re-release

I am anxiousily waiting to see A Hole in my Heart - I know that it's currently making the arthouse run domestically, but I doubt DC will get it.
