question, how explicit is "A Hole in My Heart"? Was the BBFC lenient and not enforce any cuts for the film to receive it's 18 certificate.

Giles:

A timely question... It was passed for DVD with no cuts just yesterday, so unless it was pre-cut (very unlikely) it will be intact.

If you can't wait for the UK disc, as my post some way up indicates the Swedish disc definitely has Eng subs, despite what may be listed on some sites.

The film itself isn't actually that explicit - many of the more extreme acts are (mercifully) played out with dolls. It is well within the level of explicitness of, say, Anatomy of Hell, which also received an uncut 18 from the BBFC.

That said, it's still very unpleasant, and the cumulative effect of the images and general mood prove to be quite hard to take. Very different from Lilja, but worth seeing if you're a fan of Moodysson....

Dazza.

(MATURE in nature)
Spoiler:
uh yeah, I don't I think a movie could outdo the explicitness of "Anatomy of Hell" in terms of it's sexual nature - the sight of the erect penis exiting the menstrating vagina made me nearly puke

Nothing against that scene from Anatomy of Hell, but that is not an approach that I would expect from Moodysson. I'd rather not see him go down that road.

specifically, we're looking for the technical details on the Fucking Amal disc -- as in, whether it will have a 16x9 transfer or not.

Ah. Unlikely that will appear. Sadly Amazon are the best for information which lets you know how bad the other UK retailers are.

Not much better in any other country to be fair.

I'll usually wait for a full review but that can be a long wait too.

I agree with the above statement....this has been the only issue that has prevented me from placing a pre-order.

I just e-mail this guy;

Tom Stewart
Sales Director DVD & Video Metrodome

I asked him to confirm the 4:3 for Show me Love and I also told him I needed to know ASAP so I could cancel my pre-orders, and inform my friends to do so as well.

This is a huge let down as I already own the other two films. I was willing to spend the 29 pounds because it was only 12 pounds more than buying "Hole in My Heart" as a single disc set.

Anyhow, if you get that gun Cygnet send it up to Toronto so I can use it after you. What the hell were they thinking!?!?

I wonder if this couldn't be a mistake? There's an OOP Show Me Love listed at amazon.uk, but no tech details. The only reason to release Show Me Love in 4:3 is if there was an existing version that they could simply throw into the package.

looks like it is letterboxed 4x3, not full frame
Zak

I'm sorry to hear your displeasure. The DVD of 'Show Me Love' is presented in 4:3 Letterbox. There is NO 16:9 master available. The production company Memphis films never did a 16:9 anamorphic widescreen transfer. We were aware that many fans would not take kindly to this but we wanted the box set to come out in conjunction with the release of 'A Hole In My Heart' and we simply couldn't wait for the possibility that this may happen and some point, someday. As an independent distributor we can only work with what we've been supplied.

'Show Me Love' had never been on DVD before. The Box Set represents excellent value with 4 Lukas Moodysoon films for £39.99 including his latest. Again I'm sorry that you are disappointed but I hope that you now understand our position.

Best wishes

Ken

First of all...Cygnet74 Thank you for posting the email.

Second of all...this is a lame excuse to say the least. If you are going to put a boxset (which you want to sell, no??) you should have done a better job of securing a 16/9 master. No I do not understand "their position" and NO I will not be buying the boxset.

Last but not least THERE IS a 16/9 master available- the French DVD is anamorphic. So, it was a matter of spending a little bit of time with a bit more money to provide a decent set. Poor Excuse!!!

Pre-order canceled.

Ciao,

that's a pretty weak response from metrodome. also, 'fucking amal' has certainly been released on dvd before, so i'm not quite sure what that was about. there's pretty much zero reason to upgrade now for people who have previous releases.

is it still worth our time to email this person? perhaps in the hopes that they will re-release 'amal' as an anamorphic single disc in the future? send along that gun to me next...

yes, I would email that guy...WHY NOT...you could also include the fact that they could have taken the French master and they did NOT!!
I dont think the French master would have been pricey. Fucking Amal is already quite an old film.

By the way here are a few facts:

Lately the Brits have been screwing around with foreing films beyond belief.

Kontroll-hacked, poor transfer
Take My Eyes- terrible preliminary specs (non anamorphic, burnt-in subs)
Tartan Video-.....let's screw up what we can.....
etc.

Just checked DVDSverige, and only Lilya4Ever is listed as anamorphic. Even Together is described as 4:3 full format. Is this correct? Hole is not listed yet.

Never owned the Swdish disc of Together. The UK version of Together is definitely 16/9 as is the r1.
