http://www.koreandvds.com

D5 -$5
D9 -$8 (regular)
D9 -$17(deluxe)(wooden box)

I saw the D5 version this morning and I can confirm it is ntsc with eng subs. Not sure about 16:9. Anyway the CNAVE.com(the authorized dealer) says they are 16:9.
So if the D5 version is ntsc it is safe to say the D9 versions are ntsc.
Also from the screen captures from ebay, the D9 versions have the dd5.1, dd2.0 &dts5.1 with eng, Chi(trad or simp)optional subs.

"Just confirmed the Dvd-5 is 16:9."

Just curious, but do people take shipping costs into consideration when looking at prices?

Koreandvd's has good product prices, but the shipping is very high, so it usually wipes out any savings. I'm only speaking about shipping to the US, I have no idea how they are to other countries.

With the $8 Special Edition, you have to add about $12 for regular air mail shipping. So while at first glance it's great, it quickly becomes one of the more expensive choices.

I rather pay the extra $2.50 and get it within a couple of days from thedvdetective.

For some reason, I always have trouble trying to browse both dddhouse and layoyo. Gets to the point where I give up and place an order with another e-tailer.

Almost all the titles that do not ship from Korea, will command higher transit costs that pretty much kill any deal.

Wait! I'm lost!

Can anyone post the confirmed stats for all three releases in one post along with the best price? Are all three out yet? (Does this van get good gas mileage?)

It's probably Harvey Weinstein's face, and when you play the DVD backwards, it says "Must...cut...movie......and...add...English...dub..."

I'm looking into picking it up... and so I wonder how many times I'll end up buying this movie. This will be number four.

When somebody actually has this elusive thing in his/her hands, post. Otherwise, it's yadda yadda yadda.

It seems the Koreandvd just cut the shipping cost after they actually got the dvds in stock.

We need an official review. Watermark, thrown in scenes, and 108 minuttes instead of 118 minuttes makes it worthless.

Koreandvd says it is a 107-108 mins version. And the Watermark did appear from time to time.

Reported by monkeypeaches.com 6/25/2003:

Tianjin Daily reports the release of the extended version in China has been pushed back to next month. Near 20 minutes will be added back to the 98-minute theatrical version, which has been and will be shown around the world. According to someone from Face Audio & Video Production Co. Ltd., what will be added back includes some subplots, fight scenes and dialogues which could help the audiences to better understand the story and the history background. This is actually not an extended version but the original cut director Zhang Yimou wanted us to see. But, MiramAxe asked Zhang Yimou to trim it to 98 minute long. As the result, some reviewers have criticized the film for having a weak story. Because of SARS, the extended footage has been locked up in Hong Kong ever since. As the theatrical version, the extended version will also be available on DVD-5, DVD-9 and VCD (No video tape).

Hear-say, I think.

A review would really benefit us all before we all rush ordering it. Let alone some actual screenshot, and images of what the wooden box looks like.

Would someone kindly care to do that?

Regards,

Is the standard extended edition with the DTS a good buy?

I do not care about the additional extras. I just want a good copy of the movie.

I am leaning towards just buying that and moving along.

If this is a bad idea let me know and maybe tell me why
