So maybe those of us who ordered from Amazon early enough might still have a chance of getting the bonus case?

I seriously doubt it. I ordered as soon as Amazon listed and didn't receive the case. Mind you there's only about $1 worth of polyester in there so no great loss.

Damn. I was hoping to get the case since I ordered when it was first listed, also. I guess not. Anyways, I'm supposed to get it Monday 'cause the package is already at my local DHL facility. I can't freakin' wait.

Hey Furious,

When did you get your boxset? You got it pretty early.

Ah crap, I ordered mine from them right away too. I wouldn't care how cheap it was, I'm collecting whatever I can get, and still wanted it. Oh well.

Well, one person on a Taiwanese forum reported that he just received the set, along with the rider suit, from Amazon.co.jp. He ordered on Feb 13.

I saw a couple auctions on ebay that were selling the rider suit.

Also, I noticed Amazon Japan is out and used price is 8900YEN!

I've only found one on ebay (a UK auction currently at around $16) but there are a bunch on yahoo japan auctions. Here is an example:

http://page6.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/f20269580

I believe you need a Japan issued credit card to sign up though, and most sellers only ship within Japan.

How was he able to pre-order on the 13th when the e-mail notification were sent out on the 19th? I saved the notification and it does say the 19th. Do they usually have the pre-order page available before they start telling people?

Slightly off topic:

Found this info on the real Hattori Hanzo.

I too was wondering about the subtitling ... as I find they did a great job on the R1 disk ... track engl 1 is the track that was in the theaters ... it is not burned in (yeah), it keeps the green / yellow color scheme .. and it only shows up when non emglish dialogue appears (japanese and french) ...

track engl 2 is a regular subtutle track for hearing impaired ... also having the non english portions ... but they stay in white (if they had burned in the green / yellow subs, at this point would have been a nice chaos) ...

and there are tracks in many other nice language ... including japanese ... I wonder how many people in Japan are trying to order the barebones, black and white, no rider suit or box set R1 edition and are happy about those japanese subs

I wished the R2 had the same choice of english subs ...

then again, by now i think i know even the japanese dialogue by heart.

Well, I watched the R2 dvd today and here are my thoughts on it. There are no burned in subtitles just for the Japanese parts and I was going to toggle the subtitles on, but ended up just leaving them on during the entire movie. A little distracting, but worth it to see this version of the movie. I absolutely loved the version I saw in theatres, and the switch to black and white didn't bother me, but this version should be seen by anybody that is a fan of the movie. The differences I noticed:
  • The anime sequence is slightly longer and more graphic. When O-Ren kills Boss Matsumoto, there are more shots of her slicing him as well as more shots of his face as she's doing it. Also, there's a shot of Boss Matsumoto cut open that wasn't in the US version.
  • The fight with the Crazy 88 is not only in color but is longer as well. There are shots here and there that aren't in the US version such as the Bride stuffing the eyeball she plucks out into another guy's mouth and the kid she spanks later showing up during the fight. Also, the Bride doesn't blink in the Japanese version like she does in the US version when the scene goes back to color.
  • The Bride cuts off Sofie's other arm during the interrogation.

Those were the only differences I noticed, but if you are a fan of this movie, they are definitely worth seeing. Oh, and go see volume 2 because its also awesome but in a totally different way than volume 1.

Well, there'a always the option of getting the non-box set of this release and pay under $50. Has anyone verified if the R3 version is the same as the Japanese cut, there was talk it was and then I read somewhere it was the same as the US cut, any actual knowledge on this? As for Volume 2, see it for completion's sake but it is a sub par film compared to Volume 1, too talky and actually gets boring, something that didnt happoen with part 1. And while samurai and spahetti westerns get their fair homage, kung fu films get the short end of the stick story and action wise.

I tried to join Yahoo Japan auctions and this is the cost! Not like Ebay. You have to pay a monthly charge and most of the sellers do not ship overseas nor reply in English back the emails!

Yahoo Auction Membership 294yen/month
Exhibit 1050yen/one goods
Successful bid 3%/bid price

So not really worth it!
