the FACTUAL NON r1 Kill Bill DVD thread...

Since this DVD was announced overseas, i've lost count of the numerous Kill Bill threads asking basically the same thing. SInce it wasn't out and no one could provide definitive information, I skipped the majority of them. However, the day is shortly upon us where speculation will turn into fact. I started this thread for that reason.

This is a thread for facts.

Not for shipping announcements. Not for speculation.

So, could those of us who finally get the DVD please post the specs? As it stands now, Kumar J looks to be the first DVD Talker to get his hands on it. He has already stated he'll snap a photo [and hopefully post some specs too].

And hopefully you can answer these repeated questions:
  • What was the running time?
  • Was the fight scene at the House Of Blue Leaves in colour?
  • Was O-Ren's anime sequence longer?
  • Were the subtitles removable? Or was it only "All or Nothing"?
  • Where did you order it from?
Thanks.

Additional question - was the interrogation/consolation of Sofie Fatale longer?

Kumar J 04-15-04 09:24 PM

I got it this morning, but I will not be able to open and enjoy it soon!I got the Ryder suit and the whole box is about 850g in weight. I am leaving for some outstation business from today night so I won't be able to open and give you the other points that you all been waiting to know.Sorry about that

cultshock 04-15-04 10:02 PM

Cool, thanks for the nice pic, Kumar. Too bad you can't open it yet though. It would kill me to have it in my hands, but not get to check it out until later.

Just the extra arm slicing, that's it. Everything else was the same.

OldBoy 04-16-04 12:25 AM

what do you do with the rider suit? does that fit the dvd case or something?

profbobo 04-16-04 01:10 AM

I believe it does fit the DVD case ... the dimensions look about right.

Kumar J 04-16-04 01:20 AM

It does fit the dvd case. But I do not want to open it and yet!Any other questions?I better get some work done here

I have spent yonks looking all over the web for someone who has watched the film just to find out if its uncut with the House Of Blue Leaves in colour.

So far no luck. It would seem no one in the world has watched it yet.

Update. Just found this. Hope its not bull.

Kill Bill Vol.1 was released here in Japan today; a day early of schedule.

I went out on my lunch hour to buy it, I just couldn't resist!!

And yes, it's completely in glorious color!

Umm... I wouldn't really know, as I never saw the US version!

But, as far as I have understood; the big "House of Blue Leaves" battle is in color AND uncut + the last scenes with Sofia Fatale and the Bride are completely uncut.

Apart from those two scenes, I'm unsure of the differences between the Japanese and International versions - anyone know more specifically

Are you referring specifically to the Japanese DVD or the Japanese cut itself? I saw it in Japan last November and could tell you anything you needed to know.

I was just visiting Hometheaterforum.com and under the coolest looking box sets someone has posted a couple of screen caps of the " House of Blue Leaves" battle in color and it looks sweeet!!

Can't wait for the box set to get here

Sorry, maybe someone can post the link, thanks.

WOW!

Sifu 04-16-04 12:47 PM

Facts:

The House of Blue Leaves is fully in color.

The English subtitles are NOT present whenever there is Japanese dialogue, unless you manually add them using your remote control.

The audio video quality is outstanding, and if you can support DTS, the DTS track rocks!

I still haven't seen the film, but I have the R2 set on order, is there a lot of Japanese dialog, would I be better off just leaving on the subs throughout?

Thanks

Holy shiiite!

Sifu 04-16-04 12:55 PM

Personally, I don't mind manually hiting the subtitle button when I know that there is Japanese dialogue coming.

There is enough Japanese, that it's nice to have the English subtitles, but not enough that you would want to leave them up throughout the whole movie, unless that wouldn't bother you.

Bill Geiger 04-16-04 01:00 PM

I refuse to look at any pictures as I have yet to see this movie. As I stated before...this is a blind buy for me.

matome 04-16-04 01:03 PM

Are you also getting the R1 DVD, or just the R2?

Sifu 04-16-04 01:03 PM

I forgot to mention that the running time, with credits, clocks in at 1:51:34.

Rypro 525 04-16-04 04:21 PM

the runtime for vol 1 region 1 is 111 for the box. so i am guessing the additional 30 some seconds is because of the anime.

oh and for the region 1 version, i figured out that you can turn the subs off for the japanese dialogue, so if you know it by heart, you don't have to worry about it. (and about the last hour is in japanese, with a few parts in english.)

Did he order it before it sold out the first time? I was hoping the early orders around Feb would at least get it.
