Studiocanal's standard edition of The Third Man is up for preorder now at Atomic, Orbit, and I'm sure similar sites. The going price is $30, so if you're okay with the British ratings iconography and not having a steelbook, you could save a good bit over Lionsgate Limited.

It makes it look awful. Horrible cover art.

Whaaaatt!!! No 4K UHD for Ghoulies Go To College??? No sale then!

I actually looked it up on IMDB to confirm that was even a real release and not a joke. But it is real. AKA Ghoulies III.

What is the first movie in the photos?

I am a sucker for Nic Csge but first want to see the Surfer before buying it.

Frailty with Bill Paxton.

I walked out on the Surfer when I went to see it in the theater. You might enjoy it, but I really didn’t like it. I left with about 30 minutes left I think.

I really like a number of the movies they're selling via this LL label, but I do wish they'd allow us to purchase them elsewhere. I haven't been tempted yet, but if they give us an Equilibrium UHD, I won't be able to control myself

Any news on the Aug 18 titles coming soon?

This movie makes me sleepy for some reason.

Requiem for a Dream

While one of my favorite movies, it looks great in HD and one of the few movies I have on VUDU/Fandango.

As an interesting note, I liked that Kristine De Bell was cast as a CIT. 2 years prior she was the star of the x-rated Alice in Wonderland.

. . . and then spent the next million years denying she did what she very clearly did in that film!

Did she? You're right it's very clear it's her. It's not like it's creative editing.

Yeah, can’t remember where, but I’ve read her quoted way way back as claiming it was a double or the hardcore happened after she left or some such. I suppose that might have convinced people when the only way to see the film was on fuzzy R-rated VHS tapes and copies made from them, but DVD and especially Blu-ray made it quite clear. Also, the R-rated version was more commonly available for a long time, complete with ‘scene missing’ intertitles that some viewers for years presumed were intentional wink-wink gags, so perhaps she just convinced herself that that was the only version the public ever saw (with occasional surfacings of the slightly dirtier basic X-rated cut)? Once the XXX-rated hardcore version was restored, there was absolutely no doubt that she, umm, willingly participated (for those curious, her clips are on the appropriate websites).Oddly enough, she’s by far the best actress in that film – too good for it, really – and no doubt regretted it a little once she started getting legit roles, which could explain her initial commitment to the R- or single-letter X-rated (but still softcore) cuts being the only versions of the film.

In all fairness, she has discussed and made peace with some form of the film many times through the years, including in this, ahem, oral history compiled by the Rialto Report (a great site for a seedy industry), but you’ll notice even there she dances around the degree to which she remembers participating thanks to her alcoholism and drug use, youthful ignorance, self-diagnosed “selective memory”, etc. Even in the MEATBALLS-era newspaper clipping posted far down in that piece, she says “Sometimes I see versions I didn’t even know we filmed“. Uh-huh.

So my previous comment about her denying it was probably a bit too simplistic, and was more in reference to the perhaps conveniently ‘cloudy’ nature of her on-record memories of specifically how far she went in it. I’m sure today she wouldn’t deny it’s her even in the hardcore scenes.

Lionsgate limited has a banner on their website saying The Descent is coming soon to 4k. I just hope they do a standard edition to sell at online retailers as well. I would think given The Descent's popularity among horror movie fans they would have more than just a limited steelbook release.

I see they have High Tension.

Might snag that but has no one bought any of these releases? Haven't seen any reviews posted here.

I have the steelbooks of The Way Of The Gun and the Third Man. They’re pretty nice. I also have the hard box Frailty release and I like it much more than the steelbooks.
I recommend LL. The also pack your order extremely well.

How are the 4k transfers? Worth it or nah?

Way of the Gun definitely was as well as Frailty. I haven’t popped in the Third Man.

I bought the new 4K transfers of It Follows and High Tension on fandango for $5 and $10, I will do the same with The Descent. I find the steelbooks overpriced and ugly. If/when they release them in regular cases I will double dip as I really love all three flicks. Bring on The Decent Part II.

Re: Lionsgate Limited - limited-edition releases curated from Lionsgate’s library

I have a few of these Lionsgate 4K releases in my collection, and have been using the digital copies to upgrade my HDX to UHD, but just now I got error messages from Vudu that said that I already owned Frailty and It Follows using their code I was trying to redeem, so a little disappointed that I can't access the UHD version. Perhaps it's something that will be fixed later.

Preorder for The descent is in. I'd rather not have to buy through Lionsgate Limited but I have wanted this movie on 4k for a very long time, The release date is November 11th.

In my opinion it’s always better to order directly from the studio than a third party like Amazon. Granted if it’s affordable for you. Your money is going directly to the creator of the content. And this is special edition content as well. I’m getting my A24 4Ks directly from them.
