Kind of surprised no one has commented on these yet. I bought the UHD digital and we watched the LOTR extended cuts over the Christmas holiday. Damn are they impressive looking. Both picture and sound were just absolutely reference. I’ll definitely pick these up when they drop in price.

Just watched them all over the holidays on disc. I agree amazing quality on these. Well worth it.

Yeah, I thought they looked great on initial looks. If I survive my surgery I'll have lots of time to watch the extended versions. Hell, might even order The Hobbit.

I do miss having nurses around to help. I don't miss giving vitals or blood every few hours.

Any word on when the "Ultimate Collector's Edition" will be available?

Not that I’ve heard of. It also wouldn’t surprise me if the “ultimate collection” is just the current sets culled together.

They said this summer so it should be announced soon but we will see. I could see it being delayed til the holidays. I'm just hoping it has all the previous extras so I can get rid of those sets.

I'm pretty sure there's supposed to be some new value-added content on them, but with Warners it's hard to tell what they'll do.

Ideally, I'd like to see them consolidate all of the SD extra content (bonus discs from the theatrical cuts, appendix material from the extended cuts) and include some new stuff like deleted scenes that have yet to be released, some new retrospectives, and a new documentary or two.

I actually think it would make more sense for them to have it come out at the holidays because that would make it exactly 20 years since the release date of FOTR.

So...I guess it's fair to wager this isn't happening this summer?

Finally picked up the LOTR set earlier today.

$70 on Amazon was enough for me to bite.

Re: Lord of the Ring & The Hobbit Trilogy 4K release December 2020???

Despite owning the extended edition trilogy on Blu-ray I somehow had never seen any of the films in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. I had seen The Hobbit Trilogy oddly.

Anyways, I went to a theater that shows classic films with my girlfriend last weekend and saw The Fellowship of the Ring (theatrical edition) for the first time.

Enjoyed it quite a bit. Not sure why I put off watching them. I’m not always super into fantasy in that type of a setting so maybe that’s why. I intend to watch the other two films (probably the extended), and may go back to watch the extended edition of the first film.

Go ahead and watch the extended edition of The Fellowship of the Ring first. There were many scenes in it I wish were in the Theatrical cut.

So it looks like the Super deluxe 4K set with Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit is could be coming out October 5th. This is apparently a leak.

Nothing comes up regarding what was posted.

EDIT: Okay, I found this. Looks like the Twitter embeds are crapping the bed. And as I suspected, nothing new, just the sets culled together. in one box with a trinket or two. I'm not interested in that book.

If this indeed does come out October 5th, I'll probably splurge on it. It will be a nice birthday present to myself. But I will be on vacation in Hawaii when it's released.

We'll find out soon if this is legit. I'm betting the date is wrong though.

If there’s no new material that will be in this set, then the date could very well be legit. These movies have been out for 20 years now.

The Dawn of the Discs tweet mentioned never before released special features being worked on.
