OK, that's still something.

It's just frustrating that once the first DVD releases were done, every kind of re-release has been disappointing. Even with the Blurays they didn't bother putting all the extras on one Bluray, instead they had to get 5 disc cases for the three DVDs. And then the 4Ks are mostly upscales.

This franchise deserves so much better.

I have no confidence we will ever see an actual “Ultimate Edition” with everything from the past sets in one. I also don’t think we will ever see any more cuts or re-releases, except for different packaging.

So I almost bit on these today but buckled after reading about shoddy cases (bad plastic that breaks easy as well as bad hubs to hold the discs so they become loose...this was going to be an eBay purchase so didn't want to deal with that possibility and return hassle). Also, read about skipping on multiple sites.

Anybody know if this was faulty discs or people's players causing the issue?

My Hobbit discs play flawlessly. All six disc from the Extended LOTR set lock up towards the end of each disc. I tried two sets and had the same problem with both. I have a problem with Jaws and all three Back To The Future discs as well. Tried all of them in the neighbor's Panasonic and they do the same thing. I am using a Sony.

Also, the DNR complaints on the LOTR films aren't an overstatement. They look terrible in quite a few shots.

The LOTR set is on sale from Amazon and now that I have a 4k player I was wanting to buy the set. Should I be worried about the last comment saying the extended editions lock up towards the end of each disc? My player is a Sony.

They play fine on my Sony X800M2 and Panasonic 820. I own both of those sets.

The X800M2 is the player I have so good to know the discs should be okay.
