I received an email saying that the Donnie Darko UHD replacement disc is ready and they will be sending them out as early as next week.

Was it just 4K messed up or Blu-ray too? What was messed up?

Just UHD.

On select players, the theatrical cut exhibits persistent jerky motion/stuttering through its running time.

Eh, I wouldn’t watch TE anyway, but good to have I suppose.

TE is the preferred version for most people. So it's a pretty big deal.

Did I say anything different? Just said it wasn’t for ME. That’s all. Never said not a big deal for those that care.

I got my replacement Donnie Darko in yesterday.

Wow! True Romance looks fantastic! Like when I saw in theater. One of the greatest Hans Zimmer soundtracks imo. I bought digital soundtrack and love it. The songs too. John Waite, more. So much apart of movie. Like the romantic heros theme or something. Such an amazing film. And such an incredible cast! Too bad this didn’t do anything at BO. Such an underrated classic imo. And should really go down in the anthem of Tarantino gems. Even though Tony Scott directed, this is QT through and through.

Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

If there’s one negative. Image a little soft, but I certainly don’t know any other technical terms, what have you, but not as crisp or dark as better transfers. Minor though. Still looks and it sounds great. Booming. It’s 5.1 DTS on Blu and I keep it 2 to 3 notches lower than most blus. Thus is booming. Clear dialogue even during loud scenes with techno. Damn fine, so deserved release. Should be a US.

No updates on Dune getting that doc or anything? I think I’m gonna pass on this. Doesn’t seem worth it with such a choice extra missing. Never a fanboy and barely remember seeing just one time.

Arrow is not getting the documentary. From what I've heard, the Koch release in Germany is still scheduled to have it.

I've pre-ordered it through Amazon Germany(which is easy enough to cancel). I just took a shot, but so far it's a little lean on the details.

Didn't you ask that enough times in the Dune thread?

How many times do we need to answer the same question for you?

I'm a gold backer from when they did their little US expansion so I get all of their releases directly from MVD. I got the 4k and blu limited editions yesterday but I haven't received the Steelbook yet.

Arrow generally does standard releases after the Limited Editions, right? Meaning... Theoretically, we should eventually see a standard 4K True Romance?

Yeah, and looking at Tremors and Gamera, anyway, it looks like they tend to show up 4 months after the LE is released.

^ That's the kind of timeline I can handle. Thanks! I'll order the standard edition of TR when I can... I really wanted the LE but realized I didn't want the stuff... just the damn movie. :)

I pre-ordered the Shaw-scope box-set from Diabolik...

https://www.diabolikdvd.com/wp-conte..._US-scaled.jpg

Pretty excited for it! One of only 2 or 3 blu purchases for me this entire year.

The Shaw Bros. set went down to $129.99 on Amazon. That's good enough for me, so I pulled the trigger.

I was just about to buy this at Diabolik at the same price, but this eliminates any shipping cost. Thanks.

I'm looking forward to the standard edition of Battle Royale (didn't need the sequel or all that tat) for sure. Interested in Phantom of the Mall, Mill of the Stone Women, and Sailor Suit & Machine Gun, although those might be wait-for-a-sale purchases (especially Mill; a bit surprised by its price point). As much as I like The Hills Have Eyes, I'm not sure how much that cries out for a UHD upgrade.

Battle Royale will be fun to revisit.

I'm sure I'll end up buying Hills, but I'm also a bit surprised at its upgrade. The source material doesn't seem like it's screaming that it needs to be in 4k. Battle Royale will be a nice upgrade.

Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Nice to see another lesser-known (in the west) but highly influential Japanese film being given the boutique treatment. The only subbed version of SAILOR SUIT in the DVD era was part of the Kadokawa series released by IVL in Hong Kong. That line had a strong selection of essential pictures from the studio, including several key ones with idol star Hiroko Yakushimaru from this film (she was a top earner for the entire decade). But those are long OOP. I don’t think Kadokawa films have been overly well represented in the west, so hopefully the Arrow release might inspire other labels to see the value of their catalog in defining the era of the 70’s and 80’s in Japanese cinema. There’s a lot of good stuff there.

I have the DVD but I remember being a little disappointed in it when I watched it years ago.

The DVD version of this horror classic restores all the scenes cut from its original US release including the notorious "topless" shots of sexy French star Dany Carrel
It was a blind buy.

This edition has a whole lot less. Doesn’t have the sequel or soundtrack CD, so it’s two discs instead of five.

OldBoy 08-27-21 08:57 PM

Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Oh, I saw the sequel. It’s dreadful. No desire, whatsoever, to see that pos again. Not even short candle to first and I’m sure I’ll never listen to cd. I think this is good enough for the incredible 1st. 2 cuts and special features, (so 3 discs actually) are what I love and that sf disc is packed.
