Did Legend get delayed a couple weeks? Wasn’t it 9/28? Amazon says 10/12 now.

Seems like it did. It says the same thing with my Zavvi order of Legend. Oh well.

Sounds like a jammed great edition. Which cut to see, 1:30 te or 1:54 dc? Sounds like theatrical looks much much better but longer on dc. Anyone see longer version?

Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

My copy arrived today and:

The U.S. Theatrical Cut has been exclusively restored by Arrow Films for this release. The original 35mm camera negative (conformed to the International Cut of the film, which could not be included in this set due to territory specific licensing restrictions) and additional interpositive film elements were scanned in 4K resolution at Company 3, Los Angeles. The scans were manually conformed to the U.S. Theatrical Cut by Arrow Films and graded and restored in 2K at Silver Salt Restoration, London.

So the TC cut is the one that was restored from a 2K source. The DC, which is technically the better film is still the same one that was released in 2011.

Got mine today too. Wish both versions got restored, but since I prefer the theatrical cut this doesn't sting as much.

Hey, look! It's DVD Talk's review of Children of the Corn (UHD).

Pretty much the entire time I grew up, my mother went on and on about Children of the Corn being the most terrifying, most disturbing movie she'd ever seen, so when I finally got around to watching it in the early days of DVD, I was just...what, this? I couldn't wrap my head around how a seasoned horror nut would've been unnerved by something that tame. This was the first time I'd seen the movie since then, and...well, I dislike it less, so I guess that counts for something!

Like you, I was never a fan of the movie. Never owned the movie, even if it was on sale.

I recall seeing the TV ads as a 9-year-old in 1984 and finding them scary, but yes, the movie itself is a joke.

If I’ve never seen Legend in full, better to go with DC or TE? DC seems more fleshed out character bits…

Best Buy had the limited edition Donnie Darko UHD set for $29.99 in stores when I picked it up this week. I had held off on this set because the first pressing had problematic discs for the theatrical cut. I can confirm the copy I just picked up from Best Buy had the corrected disc.

The Director's Cut is a better movie overall, with a narrative that almost makes sense. The theatrical cut is an incoherent mess.

The two cuts have very different musical scores (Tangerine Dream for theatrical, Jerry Goldsmith for DC). Preference for that is personal taste. Both work in their own ways.

However, only the theatrical cut has been remastered for this disc, so it will have the better picture quality. The DC only exists in less-than-ideal film elements.

Thanks for posting this!

I saw this too at a few of my local Best Buy B&Ms and held off for the same reason.

Might have to go back and pick up a copy.

Wow. I was so excited for like 2 seconds when I saw they were doing a Chabrol set before I realized 4 of the 5 were already released by Cohen. I don't think there's another major director who's as poorly represented on blu-ray. The guy made like 60 movies and maybe 10 of them (mostly mediocre ones at that) are on Blu.

Yeah, apart from the mesmerising L'Enfer, those films don't exactly represent the master of domestic discord at his best.

Reporting this user to the Admins of the forum. This is twice now that I have been convinced in recent days to part with my money for high quality Blu-ray releases. This must end!

(Thanks Adam. These should both be a real treat to watch in the coming days ;) )

One more...!

https://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/imag...38393204_1.jpg

The last review of mine on the docket (for the moment, anyway) is Arrow's UHD limited edition of The Hills Have Eyes (DVD Talk Collector Series). It shares the same extras, packaging, and even the same 4K scan as the limited edition from five years back, but the color regrade makes an enormous difference, there are more audio options, and a series of subtle improvements (even the paper stock used for the accompanying booklet) help ensure it's worth double (or triple or quadruple) dipping.

If you bought it from a place with a generous return policy (like Amazon) and haven't torn off the shrinkwrap yet, it'd be worth considering an exchange.

If it were just a matter of resolution, HDR, and additional audio options, I think the UHD set would be a much tougher sell as an upgrade. I don't care for the colors or contrast on the Blu-ray release, though, and this updated version addresses those issues. But if you're locked into the Blu-ray set, you won't be miserable or anything.

And the price is very good for this one. It’s only bumped up a few bucks since I bought it, and it’s still only $27.99.

I’m hoping for Super Inframan on volume 2.

On one hand, I’m really excited to see so many people’s copies arrive early. On the other, I’m getting this as a Christmas gift from family on the opposite end of the state, and unless Amazon ships ‘em early too, it could be months until I get my grubby mitts on it.
