Remember the Planet of the Apes Caesar head set? The Walking Dead Season 2 Zombie Head w/screwdriver set? The Breaking Bad Complete Series barrel? Good times!

Well, going back further then, anyone remember the “Best of Roger Rabbit” laserdisc fiasco when it was “recalled” for “glue issues”? I just looked that one up on eBay, and it looks like it still goes for $40-50.

Damnit, I got this for free and I think gave it away to a friend.

Dang. Didn't know that. That is one I need to finish watching and decide whether to keep or not. It's not that great and since I wasn't around in 67 and don't really have nostalgia for it...hmmm. Spider-Man And His Amazing Friends on the other hand...

Re: List of Valuable Blu-rays & DVDs

My Spidey '67 nostalgia is leftover from the VHS era. I made it a point to buy as many of those Marvel Comics Video Library in the black clamshell cases as I could back in the very late '80s or super-early '90s, and most/all of those had Spider-Man cartoons at the end.

I would pick up Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends if it ever got a high-def spit and polish. I still have the Arachnoid's voice in my head despite not having heard it in thirty-however-many years.

The remastered LE Hardware (1990) that I got for good price, is pretty good coin for new.

Re: List of Valuable Blu-rays & DVDs

I guess the 2 volumes of the Spike Lee Joints Collection Blu-ray’s are fetching a pretty high price, vol 2 at least. Why vol. 1 lower in value than 2? And why these fetching any ridiculous price just cause OOP? I actually thought I got them from another country (that was only Clockers), but they are US.

I just don’t understand why the ones in this thread mentioned fetch such high prices. And who sets price point? I know DVDs was like that with certain, but thought it all died out...

From where are you getting these high prices? If by chance it's Amazon third-party sellers, you should understand the prices you see are not completed sales, simply what someone is asking for.
The more accurate way to access a particular title's value is to go to eBay and search for "Completed Items" (checkbox on lower left side of buying options), and see what the current going rate is.
For instance, Spike Lee Joint Collection Vol. 2 might look like it's "fetching" around $80 if you only look at Amazon. However, if you look at eBay you see that completed auctions have been selling in the range of $20-$25.

Re: List of Valuable Blu-rays & DVDs

Mental Floss has made a new list of the most valuable Blu-rays. Doesn't really look exhaustive or anything, but offers a few different titles.

I think it's crazy that Splash is trading for $200.

Well I’m guessing the Rad Vinegar Syndrome release is going to be pretty expensive on EBay right now. Also I have the Friday the 13th Blu-ray tin in pretty good shape, and The History of Beavis and Butthead dvd set. I don’t know how much it’s worth and the copy I have might be a bootleg, but it has episodes on there that Mike Judge never wanted to be seen again.

Re: List of Valuable Blu-rays & DVDs

Rad was already pretty expensive on laserdisc. Its rarity was mainly what prompted me to pick up the UHD, saw it on VHS years ago and wasn't impressed but maybe I'll like it more now.

I have The Man Who Fell to Earth Criterion and Gravity Diamond Luxe Edition, and they're only ones on that list I would want from that list.

I own Dolls and had no idea it was so in demand. It's definitely something I want to hold on to though.
One I have that I know is valuable is Airheads, which recently had a used copy on eBay sell for $85

Re: List of Valuable Blu-rays & DVDs

I pondered selling my copy of The Vincent Price Collection, along with Vols. 2 and 3 for like $500 or something. I could never bring myself to do it since I like them too much.

In other news, I recently sold my copy of Lost: The Complete Ultimate Collection for $350. I bought it for $75 during a Prime sale years ago. Used some credit to bring that price down.

A local used chain went out of business last year and I snagged all the individual releases for $25 total. Ended up selling my DVD copies for $40.

Re: List of Valuable Blu-rays & DVDs

I have most of the Disney treasure dvd tins laying around including a sealed copy of Donald 4. I also have that Halloween set which I got from Target at a reasonable price. I have the Reanimator Arrow LE and many Vinegar Syndrome Slipcover blu rays. Those are some off the top of my head.

You collect for long enough eventually some of it becomes valuable, but never enough to offset the collection.

I was able to get a whole box of this DVD from Costco before it wouldn't scan on the register. Bought them for $20 each was able to sell them for $60-$75 each on ebay that week.

I have that Ultimate Jordan set, which is funny because I sold my DVD set of the first release for $500 on Amazon when I heard the BD was coming out. Got The Man Who Fell To Earth also new and sealed. Might sell it since I already saw the film several times on DVD.

The other Criterion that tends to go for good money is The Third Man blu-ray. It was released about a year before Criterion lost the rights and I've seen it sell for between $200-$400 new and sealed

Re: List of Valuable Blu-rays & DVDs

I just found out my near mint copy of Super Fuzz (great cheesy 80’s gem btw) is going in the mid $100’s. I’ll never sell bc I love this movie and know it won’t get blu, but I’ll keep this. I have such cheesy, but fond memories of this Terence Hill, Ernest Borgnine not quite masterpiece. Not close really. But seeing it on cable many mins ago has never gone away. Even have theme songs “Super super...he’s a super trooper...”. I hope the dvd looks somewhat decent on blu player that upscale. Either way idc...

Re: List of Valuable Blu-rays & DVDs

Is this one worth anything anymore? I remember not opening this bc I got the regular 2-disc blu with the one of maybe the best making of docus of medium in states. But back then I was a SteelBook fanatic (as most of u know) and got it for $35 with maybe $5 shipping. Probably not even worth that now. I remember encasing it like that when I still sealed as heard hard to get. Check out the chic Subway napkins I used to secure...

Re: List of Valuable Blu-rays & DVDs

Oldboy, the best way to check to see if something is valuable is to see and compare what the current and sold prices are for that particular item on eBay.

Don't go by Amazon prices. Resellers there find something out of print or out of stock and they just put random high prices on items and there is no way to see what the prior same items sold for.

Re: List of Valuable Blu-rays & DVDs

Trouble is, so rare tough to find sealed on bay. I mean I guess I could part with it. No reason I really need since I have it already and digital copy...

Re: List of Valuable Blu-rays & DVDs

I sold my used copy about 5 months ago for $110 USD. The only new version on eBay right now is asking $4,500 (!). The version you have in the picture is the rare version which has the strip of blue with the Blu-ray logo along top edge. There was a more common (and less valuable) reissue version in which the entire graphic filled the entire front cover.
