While I know how important the soundtrack is to a movie, the only ones I bought were like Xanadu, where the soundtrack was better than the movie

I think I goofed on this one.
The two day Diabolik window might end up having been the best option for US purchasers after all.
New international postal rates for the US kick in July 1, and they are going to dramatically increase shipping costs- which I'm going to guess is the big reason that several months out boxed set pre-orders aren't available for US delivery on Amazon UK.
Won't be surprised at all if Base ends up cancelling their US orders. If they don't, and the new shipping rates gets adjusted in, the difference in cost between purchasing at Base vs Diabolik will likely be nil.
That's if exchange rates stay where they are now which is absolutely not certain, and historically more likely to be more in favor of the pound.

The good news is that if you locked in your UK order with Base.com for Dawn 4K, you're only going to pay £2.99 for shipping. If you order the set now, the shipping rate to the U.S. has switched over to £29.99.
It has begun.
It has begun.

So what's the deal with the massive jump in overseas shipping rates?

Youch. I'm really going to have to pare back my SteelBook purchases from the UK.

Wow. I guess I'm glad I ended up ordering from Diabolik after all That's very worrisome for other imports in the future. Would it help to form buying groups for imports? I think we had those here at one time.

Wonder if Zavvi is gonna pull some shit. I may just end up with two of these. I ordered from Zavvi first then Diabolik. I doubt I’ll cancel my original order until I get a copy in my hands.

I read it twice and still don't quite understand why it now will cost triple or more to ship something to the U.S. from England or Germany.
It definitely sucks and will kill me importing basically anything. I can't imagine this being a good thing for businesses on either side of the pond.

They'll be taking a hit of over $30 if they honor those orders. I can't imagine they will actually end up fulfilling them at that original invoiced price- especially since we haven't been charged yet.
We'll see, I guess.

Diabolik has gotten another small allocation and put them up for pre-order.
I decided to put my order in there just to be safe. Even if the Base order still goes through with absolutely no change in the shipping charge, a whole basket of things could easily and negatively affect the exchange rate come October. Or it could go down another nickel and people that pre-ordered there will get an even bigger break.
If shipping were going up £5, I could see a large company eating the cost. But £27? If people don't get a revised invoice and the ability to opt out of the order at that time, I'll be very surprised.
OTOH, now that I just paid more than I had said I would for this, I'm sure all those orders will go through without a hitch from Base.
For the time being I'll keep my order in there and if it does go through I'll just sell one of the copies later.

Yes, unfortunately.
At least that has been their stated policy previously. This may be a special circumstance, but I doubt it.

that's crazy for them to hold your money hostage for that long, considering there are no delays...

I just checked and yes, I was charged.
Severin processes charges immediately for pre-orders. IST (graphic novels) charges when you place the order even if they actually don't have the product and need to re-order from Diamond (or whatever) .
It's frustrating, and sometimes deal-killing depending on my circumstances at the time, but not all that uncommon.
Especially for these smaller, niche brands that aren't subsidiaries of deeper pocket conglomerates.

They also don't allow you to cancel pre-orders, so you're stuck at that price forever. Also, on the off chance that the item arrives damaged, they only offer store credit and no refunds.

?
It's been up for pre-order for a while now.
Diabolik is out of pre-release quantity.
Base.com still offers is, albeit with a £29.99 S/H fee now.
Zavvi still has them for PO.
I recently pre-ordered Walkabout from Base. I'll see how they pack that and then determine if I want to keep my Dawn pre-order with them.
I've been having very poor experience with US and international shipping lately. Packages that should take two days are at day ten and still lost in the system. Both an Amazon and Arrow UK order were due last week and still nowhere to be found...even tracking doesn't have a clue where they are specifically.
I think this is only going to get worse as we head into fall and flu season.

My recent order from Amazon uk took about three weeks to ship, but once it left, it got here in record time. Another package I was expecting from Israel took almost three months from when the seller mailed it.
