Minneapolis, MN (July 27, 2018) - Mill Creek Entertainment, the recognized leader in the independent home entertainment industry, will release the groundbreaking, multi-award-winning series "The Shield" on Blu-ray, 10 years after the unforgettable finale aired on TV. This comprehensive Complete Series collection will include all 88 fully restored episodes in high-definition from the series' seven season run and will also include a host of bonus features including an all-new cast reunion, writers panel featurette, and retrospective on the landmark series. Packaged in a premium, collectible Digi-book housing 18 Blu-ray discs, this Special Collector's Edition of The Shield will be available for $229.98 SRP on November 6, 2018.
Controversial, compelling and critically acclaimed, The Shield takes place in a tough, morally ambiguous world in which the line between right and wrong is crossed every day, and the road to justice is twisted. Emmy and Golden Globe-winner Michael Chiklis portrays one of television's greatest antiheros, Detective Vic Mackey, who runs his elite Strike Team under his own set of rules, as he tries to maintain balance in the criminal ecosystem on the streets of Los Angeles.
Creator Shawn Ryan hails this Collector's Edition Blu-ray set "as the exclamation point to the legacy of The Shield." Ryan recalls, "A high-definition restoration was not possible until now." Thanks to a new patented process, the entire series has undergone a 4k transfer and restoration from the 16mm film elements preserving the intentional grit and raw texture that's unique to this series.
"We are thrilled to be able to present The Shield in its entirety, available for the first time on Blu-ray having been masterfully restored in widescreen, high definition," says Barrett Evans, VP of Marketing and Product Development for Mill Creek Entertainment. "The series had a monumental impact on television when it debuted, and its themes and subject matter are still poignant and relevant today."
In celebration of this release, Mill Creek Entertainment is orchestrating a reunion with the principal cast and crew, including Shawn Ryan, Michael Chiklis, Catherine Dent, Walton Goggins, Jay Karnes, Benito Martinez, CCH Pounder, Cathy Cahlin Ryan, Kenny Johnson, David Rees Snell, Paula Garcés, and David Marciano. Also included on this special Blu-ray release will be a writers panel from the ATX Festival featuring Ryan, Kurt Sutter, and Glen Mazzara plus interviews with the executives and critics who framed and followed the show as it changed the television landscape.
"The Shield redefined cable television and paved the way for a new level of hard-hitting shows that followed," says J.W. Starrett, Director of Product Development for Mill Creek Entertainment. "Getting the cast and crew back together 10 years after the final episode aired gives some really interesting insight and fascinating stories about their experience working on the show." Additional special features will be included from previous DVD releases, as well as new features currently in development. A complete listing will be announced in the coming weeks.
The Shield originally aired on FX from 2002-2008. Created by Shawn Ryan, the series won 2 Golden Globe awards, including Best Television Series - Drama, a Primetime Emmy award and 2 AFI Awards for "TV Program of the Year." The series is also included on numerous "Top TV Shows Of All Time" from publications including TV Guide, Time and Rolling Stone.

Sounds like this is actually a decent re-release and not some typical barebones junk Millcreek release. Plus, looks like Shawn Ryan was involved with the re-mastering.

Ryan posted a series of Tweets about this project:
Sounds like a huge project and they're doing it justice.
I know many in this forum are going to write this off and say...Blah, I'm done with discs and physical media. But, I think I want to support this project and set, especially since they got Ryan involved with it. It's one of the best cop shows and scripted shows of all-time. If we support a project like this, then maybe more quality unreleased shows will come out in HD on Blu-Ray?
I have the complete series on Sony DVD that I got for $25 a few years ago at Best Buy, but if I find a price that I'm can afford, I have no problem upgrading.
I dumped the previous individual FOX sets as many of them were in 4:3.

I like it but there is one thing and that is the two hundred plus dollar asking price. Get it down to a hundred or less and I'll consider it.

Re: The Shield -- The Complete Series -- 11/6/18
Great news. This is one of those shows that I wrote off when it first premiered. I remember I was watching Buffy reruns on FX during this time and kept seeing these advertisements for this show. I remember thinking it looked iffy, like it was trying too hard to be edgy. I thought some of the scenes shown seemed too over the top. It had this gritty, serious voiceover that felt silly to me, with the promo ending with the name of the show: Rampart.
There was a brief time that I didn't see any promos, and then I start seeing the same promo again. Same script, same scenes being shown, except now at the end it said, The Shield. How generic, I thought. Clearly this show must already be in trouble for them to be changing the title, especially to something so blah.
Well, by the end of the first season, I realized I must have missed out on something. I always meant to go back and catch up with the show from the start but never have. Looks like this could be my chance/excuse.

I could see this starting out at $150 and maybe going down to $99 at the lowest.
But, this isn't their typical hack job. Looks like they put a lot of time and money into this.

Amazon preorder is up at $230. Too rich for my blood for now, but I'll probably bite once it's under $100.

That's MSRP according to the press release. Amazon listings always start with the original MSRP upon a release announcement and that news just came out today. I fully expect this to drop about 25-30% when it comes out in November as a starting price.

If this came with digital HD copy I would consider and have the ease of watching series and then watch extras at leisure...

I'm surprised Sony let one of their best home video properties go to Mill Creek. They've rarely licensed out their bigger sellers. I guess they've made a secular decision to drop television from Blu-ray consideration and Mill Creek stepped in to pick this up.
Four or five years ago, this would have come out from Sony themselves with a full digital copy.

I'm one of the few who has never watched the show. This is a perfect release for me (once the price plummets.)
