It is a Disney release; about the only probable price drop will be Black Friday.

Guardians of the Galaxy II's 4K release was sold for $15 during Black Friday last year.

If you really don't feel comfortable spending $25+ on this, that's probably the best you can hope for.

That is what I'm waiting for. Unless there is a deal through Disney Movie Club that works in my favor. I wait until the end of the year for most Disney (and major studio) releases.

I saw this twice in theaters - I'm fine with waiting for it to be $20 or less.

Re: Avengers: Infinity War -- August 14, 2018

Watched the UHD disk last night.
Very strange looking video.
Much of the movie has an orange push.
I tried everything I could to get rid of it, but couldn't really do much.
It wasn't until the Wakanda sequence that color variance looks more natural.
Oddly, eye-popping colors are in short supply throughout the film...very subdued palette.

The screenplay is either a masterpiece or schlock...I'm not quite sure.
IMO, this is so unlike the previous 2 movies as to be a head-scratcher for those who have seen the others.
It's almost as though this movie should have been titled "Thanos...hear my thoughts."
Focus on the Avengers team itself is somewhat muted.

If you guys didn't sell your digital code, watch the Director's Roundtable extra. It's about 32 minutes long and it's actually quite good. All the key directors of the MCU were there and participated. Taika Waititi was there via Facetime. But all the other one-off directors like Derrickson, Branagh, Johnston and Taylor weren't there.

Favreau did most of the talking, but it was cool hearing his thoughts.

Watched this last night. In some of the other releases (like JP1 and JP4) I noticed an orange push. I did not see it here. I thought it was a nice presentation. When I got done I popped in the BR, watched the finale again to compare. The BR had less detail and zing as you would expect.

Any opinions on the sound? On another forum everyone is whining. I have not had a change to watch my blu yet.

It's a significant step up over the past couple of Marvel releases -- bass response especially -- but still far from where it ought to be, at least on the Atmos side of things. For immersive audio, it's just not...well, immersive. Disney apparently prefers 7.2.6 printouts and doesn't use objects as consistently as other studios do, and the baked-in heights are somewhat understated. I'm not thrilled but not disappointed. It's a step in the right direction, after I felt let down by Black Panther, but I wasn't impressed the way I have been with so many other action/superhero movies (Man of Steel in particular). I'd fall in the "good, but not great" camp.

After watching the UHD, I too put in the BR to see how the colors compare.
The BR doesn't seem to push orange as much as the UHD on my display (Sony 940c).
The BR has a more pleasurable (to me) palette, but lacks in other areas of the video presentation.

Agreed.
I have a 6.2 setup and thought it was reasonable amounts of bass (nothing special though).

Re: Avengers: Infinity War -- August 14, 2018

I enjoyed the deleted scenes, particularly the one with the Guardians. One of the few times of late that I'd like to see an extended cut to add the material back in.

"If it's yellow, let it mellow. If it's brown, flush it down. Those were your direct orders!"

Yeah, the Guardians deleted scene was hilarious and should have been included. Also love the "New York Groove" song selection. The other scenes are not as great, but I could see all of them working as part of a longer cut.

I watched the regular BD and found nothing odd or unnatural about the color.
All the Earth scenes looked natural.
All the scenes in space, on planets and in ships, had pushed a particular color based on the color of the atmosphere, surrounding stars and nebula.
Titan was orange because of the atmosphere.
The Guardians ship was purple because of purple nebula outside shining through windows.
The place Gamora went over cliff had an overly blue with tinges of red because of the color of the sky.
The troll forge was also kinda blue because of the lights from the surrounding space.
You have to judge by how the Earth scenes look.

Yeah. I have the 4K disc but only bothered to watch the regular Bd so far.
I have a pixel shifting faux 4K display and need to strip the metadata so it's usually a wash anyway.

Regardless, I was still mightily impressed with the basic 1080p image.

I looked at the BD too and it looked fine IMO.
My complaint is with the UHD disk.

Watched this last week. I don't have any complaints on the sound. Thought it had plenty of life.

Re: Avengers: Infinity War -- August 14, 2018

I re-watched the movie a few weeks ago and went through all the extras as well.

For such a "big" movie, it's surprisingly light on bonus content. Not counting the commentary, there is barely over 1 hour of content and that's only if you include the digital exclusive roundtable. The making of material is barely 30 minutes long combined.

I guess gone are the days we're going to get big extensive making of docs like on the old Lord of the Rings extended editions. I guess Disney just doesn't want to invest hiring a documentary crew to shoot an extensive making of these big tentpole movies.

Probably a deluxe edition with the two films.

Or it's just one of the many packages that fit into the new norm where Disney barely puts anything together to include as extras. And what they do put together is often fluff. Gone are the days where almost every major release of note was loaded with awesome stuff, often requiring a second DVD/BD.

I think you're right.
I've definitely noticed fewer and fewer Extras lately.
Even their UHDs are bare-boned.
