The audio keeps getting short-ended.

Avengers: Infinity War comes with an English Dolby Atmos mix on 4K Ultra HD. It’s neither great nor terrible, just average. There’s an indefinable sense of the dynamics being stifled although there is certainly some ‘boom’ in the low end and clarity in the dialogue. The panning is decent, but the overhead speakers are underwhelming. While they do offer up some atmospherics for the score and sound effects, they don’t quite give a big sense of immersion. What is Disney doing these days with their soundtracks? This isn’t the worst I have heard from them, but where they used to lead the pack, they have become an afterthought. Even the PIXAR soundtracks are underwhelming these days.
3.5 score and that's for the Atmos track.

The Director's Roundtable is very good, 32 minutes long.

That really pisses me off, not sure why they can't get the sound right anymore.

I wonder to what extent it's a case of "less dynamic range -> sounds better at lower bitrates -> more ideal for streaming -> that's what we'll use for everything, everywhere, for everyone".

For the Atmos end of things, apparently it's a "print-out", baking in overhead effects and the like rather than using objects the way that's intended (or at least not as consistently as it should).

Watching a movie with flying vehicles like Man of Steel or Blade Runner 2049, and then putting on the climax of Black Panther, there's absolutely no comparison. I can hear stuff in the heights, but it doesn't sound nearly as forceful or immersive.

That’s why I get so worked up about subpar Atmos transfers. In this day and age, just about all of the transfers should be at 5.0 rated. And sitting at home in full immersive 7.1.4 Atmos sound really adds to the experience. I’ve gotten a few friends and neighbors jumping on the wagon as a result of hearing movies in Atmos.

I hear ya.
I get even more worked up by UHD releases shot in 4K or greater upconverting from 2K Intermediates.
The same thing was done with a lot of the 1st BDs being upconverts from DVD masters.
It's complete B.S. and the studios should be ashamed of themselves for short-changing fans.

Well, I wouldn't say that's true. There were a fair number of DVD-era masters being used, but they were still truly high-def. I can't recall any upconverts of feature films from a major studio. Things like the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Christmas special were extremely few and far between.

Looks like Best Buy has the regular 4K for $27.99 and Target has it for $29.99

No deals for Avengers 1 and 2. I see Best Buy has it for $29.99

It’s going to be very expensive to get all 3.

I should just get the 4K version of IW on Apple TV for $19.99 and just hold out for a deal later. It’s essentially the same thing and $10 cheaper.

Three days from release and still no Amazon listing. I’d like to see what they’ll price the 4K at. I’m guessing they’ll match Best Buy or maybe go a dollar or so cheaper.

Dollars to doughnuts, it'll be $27.99. Amazon almost certainly won't beat Best Buy, Target, or Walmart's price out of the gate. If it's less, it's because the competition dropped their price. Amazon is a price follower, not a price leader.

It's all because of bs between Amazon and Disney. This shit has been going on for a while.

Yeah, you’re probably right. The last two, Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther were both $24.99. I was hoping for the same for Infinity War.

It still could shake out that way. walmart.com dropped their price for Black Panther to $24.99 on day one, and Amazon quickly matched. I'm not sure if it was the same story with Ragnarok.

That seems weird to me, since I'm sure you're not going to find the UHD for $10 any time soon so at that point paying $27.99 now for the UHD pack would make more sense then paying $19.99 now + whatever price for the disc later on.

Yeah you're right. I'm just doubling up and will end up paying a lot more along with having an extra 4K digital copy. It doesn't make much sense in retrospect.

Since this is going to be a very popular title, it's definitely not going to sink super low in price for a long time.

I held out 3 extra months for Thor Ragnarok and it only dropped $3 extra bucks to $24.99 for the UHD, so I sucked it up and bought it. I think I got Black Panther for like $23.99 when Amazon discounted it. These Disney UHD's are rarely discounted more than a few bucks. And as of right now both of those Marvel UHD's are in the $23-24 range.

If anyone does Disney Movie club, a few weeks back if you had VIP you could score all three avengers 4k discs for around 67.90 shipped, might be best price for a while on it until maybe Black Friday

But at least with Black Panther they actually had stock on release day when they turned on the buy button. That hasn’t been the case with big Disney titles going back at least as far as Doctor Strange. So maybe there’s been a little improvement.

If the quality of the 3D matches what we saw in IMAX 3D, then it absolutely will be worth it. We were truly impressed.

The other day I FINALLY found Ragnarok for under 25 bucks (Walmart $24).
Complete Disney B.S. regarding their 4Ks.

Yeah I’m gonna keep it. Was thinking of nonsteel version but only $8 difference. I have all other Marvel 3D steels, why break tradition I guess. I look forward to it now. Though having digitally now is so tempting bc I yearn to see this again and Zavvi or UK 3D not till 9/3 is release...

I saw this first in 3D and was a bit annoyed with the tight framing. I saw it the next week in 2D IMAX and thought the framing was just right (the tops of heads weren't being cut off). Unfortunately, it's only going to be available in the 2:35 framing, and I have to say I'm a little disappointed.

Walmart has Avengers 1 for $22.12 online and Age of Ultron for the typical $29.96 (down from $42 last week)

I received a $5 off $15 Coupon from Target in the mail last week.

Hopefully I'll be able to use it on the Standard Release!
