re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens - April 5th, 2016
They are? Was a press release out out or something? This release would seem like the prime movie to release as physical media, to take advantage of the exclusives and whatnot. I haven't seen any indication Disney is tying to phase physical media out, except for maybe nixing 3D here in the States.

It's not coming out April 5th. That was just a date some website put on and took it off later that day.

Not that it means anything yet, but blu-ray.com has March 15th as the digital release date for iTunes. If that holds true, then we'll have an April blu release. So one way or another, an announcement should be coming soon.

re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens - April 5th, 2016
I'm going to take a wild guess and say Disney is holding out because they want to make an announcement during the Oscar telecast Sunday night. They probably have a commercial prepped and ready to go.

re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens - April 5th, 2016
Even though it's a Wednesday, they might do May 4th.

re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens - April 5th, 2016
I know for a fact that it will definitely be out on April 1st! ;)

re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens - April 5th, 2016
March 15 for digital and April 5 for BD/DVD sounds reasonable enough.
Might go for digital this time. Still thinking about it. |
re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens - April 5th, 2016
I never buy early release digital copies but I will succumb this time. I will just give the digital copy that comes with the BD to whoever is nicest to me between now and then.

Given Avengers 2 got a Friday release I could certainly see this one getting a Friday release as well to separate it from the pack.

I wonder if Rogue One's teaser will be one of the forced trailers?

I see it up for pre-order on iTunes now. BUT it says 720p. There better be a 1080p version as most iTunes HD movies are 1080p now.

re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens - April 5th, 2016
Little by little we learn more. Still no official press release. But you can now pre-order on Amazon. My guess is that we're still looking at April 5th for the blu and the digital about 2 weeks earlier.
http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-en...-a6893476.html Star Wars: The Force Awakens: 7 deleted scenes to be released on DVD and Blu-Ray, editors confirm With the DVD and Blu-Ray release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens drawing ever closer, more and more fans are wondering whether they will feature deleted scenes. Luckily, the film’s editors, Mary Jo Markey and Maryann Brandon, were able to confirm to The Independent that seven scenes will be made available by Disney. “We have been talking about [the deleted scenes],” Brandon began. “But Disney has mentioned to us that - since they’re going to be on the DVD treats for viewers - that we should stop talking about them.” When pressed a little further, the Oscar-nominee said: “There aren’t a lot. There’s one with Harrison Ford, there’s one with Rey, but there aren’t a lot. “I think there are maybe seven or eight,” added Markey. “I don’t know if that’s a lot. I remember looking at the reel. Actually, I think there are seven.” Speaking about whether there was anything they regret leaving on the cutting room floor, Brandon said: “I honestly think that what is in the film is exactly what needs to be in the film, and what isn’t remains fun but not necessary. “JJ [Abrams, director] really wanted it to be a two-hour movie, and we did strive to do that. But then, at a certain point, we felt like the film is really working for the very few people that we were able to show it to. “So we went back to see if we should add any of the things we left off, and there really wasn’t anything that felt like it needed to be in the film. That’s always the goal, to get it down to its essence. There were fun things, but it didn’t actually have to be in the movie for it to work.” As well as talking about deleted scenes, Brandon and Markey - who are both up for Oscars for there work on Star Wars - also spoke about the film's similarities to George Lucas's films, diversity in the film industry and working with JJ Abrams. Read the full interview 26 February. The pair were promoting the editing software they used while making The Force Awakens, the Avid Media Composer. |

Seven deleted scenes equals seven retailer exclusive releases with one deleted scene each?

Not sure if this is the actual cover...looks like it might be a retailer-exclusive (Wal-Mart?) slipcover. |
re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens - April 5th, 2016
Yea, no way is that the general release cover.
|
re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens - April 5th, 2016
I kinda like the cover. Probably one of 5 or some nonsense like that...

That's the cover walmart.com shows: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Star-Wars-...y-DVD/49966919

Target is going to have exclusive content:
Pre-Order Star Wars: The Force Awakens and get 20 minutes of bonus content + Collectible packaging +$5 gift card |
re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens - April 5th, 2016
I like steelbooks, but I'm not real enamored with that art.

when the SteelBook™ goes up for preorder, someone alert this thread...

Call me old fashioned, but if the Target exclusive is disc based I'll go for that, the 100 BBY points isn't even worth it
|
re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens - April 5th, 2016
I guess mark April 18th as the release date, according to leaked pictures coming out. Target will have it as part of the pre-order with a $5 giftcard. That first picture is a UK ad I guess, but i'm guessing this will be a day and date worldwide release. Or at the very least, beginning to mid April.

Looking like Target for me, unless the store exclusive content is digital download only. In that case, they can stick up their ass.

re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens - April 5th, 2016
Pretty much my sentiment and plan as well. Also, no sign of 3D anywhere, so I'm guessing Disney/Lucasfilm isn't going to support 3D home release.

At least it's in line with the other steelbooks. You know, with all of the other bad guys, right down to Evil Yoda.

I guess, but not unexpected.

re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens - April 5th, 2016
Sorry to say that I think it would be huge surprise if the Target exclusive wasn't online only. I will probably still go that route over the fugly Kylo steelbook.

BB usually gives you 250 BBY points on a pre-order. |
re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens - April 5th, 2016
So I'm guessing the April 6 so called release date isn't happening with it being one month away and still no announcement. :(

Target exclusive listing is up
'Collectible Packaging + Exclusive Bonus Content', bonus content looks like it will be digital. Confirms the April 5 release date. |
