I’m guessing a 4K disc doesn’t have the interactive remote control capabilities for this and that’s why it doesn’t work.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

Wow, Deathstroke: Knights & Dragons was so not good. What an oddly voiced (I couldn’t tell Chiklis’ voice for anything. It’s like the voice actors in all these DC animated go for that deep throaty Bale Batman voice without the electronics, it’s repetitive and works sometimes), edited, written film. This was so all over the place with emotion that should have been felt, but is so hollow. This wasn’t fun and kinda predictable. With interspersed scenes of exposition that takes from the action which there’s some, but certainly not wall to wall. Really odd choices in this movie. Scenes, edits that were abrupt. Bloody for sure, but no more than Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. That movie was a hellava lot of fun and bloody, and believe only PG-13. Sure, this could be R I guess with I think 1 fuck, but as a whole nothing really special at all and maybe Wilson’s slight ass cheek showing made it R. Too bad. Very underwhelming till the stupid end. Hopefully new Superman: Man of Tomorrow is much much better.

We now know the next title: Soul of the Dragon, a ‘70s-set Batman martial arts adventure.

Yeah, they’ve had a lot of solid animated titles recently.

More or less agree about the new Deathstroke movie. The review hasn't been posted but the movie felt like an eternity at nearly 90 minutes despite all the blood and violence. Basically, it's a pure Deathstroke origin movie with his family involved and tries to rewrite Deathstroke as some kind of assassin with a moral conscience. This is one of the few animated projects from executive producer Greg Berlanti (overlord of virtually all DC's live-action shows) and everything but the action sequences are oddly put together.

Oh, cool. I was wondering just the other day why the first season was only on DVD.

Definitely interested in the Death in the Family disk. I remember when that storyline came out - I probably voted once. IIRC the end tally was actually pretty close.

Does it matter what order I watch the first 30 films in? I bought the BD collectors set "First Ten Years", then bought it on Vudu when it was on sale, and they appear to be in a different order. Is it OK to just go through them as Vudu has them?
Some of these aren't great but most of them are very fun and enjoyable.

you are correct about how close it was...

On the back of Batman #427, an advertisement was run featuring Batman carrying a severely wounded Robin. In the ad, readers were warned that Robin would die of his injuries "because the Joker wants revenge", but that they could "prevent it with a telephone call". Two 900 numbers were given: one (1-(900) 720-2660) which would let Robin live, and another (1-(900) 720-2666) which would cause him to die.[3] The numbers were active for 36 hours, beginning on September 15, 1988, at 8 A.M. EST and ending on September 16, 1988, at 8 P.M. EST.[5] Readers were charged 50 cents per call.[3] Approximately 10,614 votes were cast during this period. When tallied, the final results were extremely narrow, with 5,343 votes in favor of Jason's death over 5,271 for his survival—a margin of just 72 votes. O'Neil would later admit to having voted in Todd's favor, as he felt that Batman was incomplete without Robin and feared killing Todd would lead to backlash.[5]
I can't remember if I voted or not. I think I did and I voted to kill him. Batman & Detective were my main comics back then and I hated Jason Todd...though that was probably more the writers' fault. They pretty much made him a total prick the majority of the time. He started out nice and then when they rebooted him, he was an annoying punk street kid. I did actually feel a little bad after he died though. Pretty harsh death.

Is Max getting the animated movies? I know they have some of them but it didn't seem like a complete collection last time I looked, even accounting for them wanting to delay the streaming release.

Steelbook of Superman: Man of Tomorrow is at Target for pre-order for $19.99. Best Buy has their exclusive set that includes a Martian figure for $29.99. I imagine both may have their prices lowered closer to release date.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

I noticed that Superman: Man of Tomorrow is out today on digital. Weird that they release it on a Sunday.

I watched the trailer and the animation style looks very 80s-ish. These DC animated movies are hit and miss. I'll wait for some reviews on this one. Not sure if I want to see another iteration of Kal-El's origin story.

I received a complimentary copy this morning but haven't watched it yet. It was released today as a follow up to the DC Fandome event. Apparently, there was some DC animation news that was supposed to be revealed at the Fandome but it got delayed to the second part of the event in September. As far as I can tell you, the animation certainly looks somewhat different, maybe even a little worse than the previous animated films. Don't know the reason of the style difference other than them wanting a fresh start to differentiate from the past 15 films set in that New 52ish world.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

DC announced that they are releasing 4 animated direct to video films next year. It's technically 3, but Batman: The Long Halloween is being split into 2 releases, one in the summer and another in the fall. The 2 other films will be Batman: Soul of the Dragon and Justice Society: World War II

Sounds like a good lineup. Soul of the Dragon sounds awesome, and I look forward to seeing how The Long Halloween turns out.
