I got the regular 3D, BLu-ray, HD DIGITAL version, with the slipcover. I don't care about all that other bullshit.

Is there any chance that we can agree to not buy from these scalpers on principle? I'd love the steelbook but no way am I giving a cent to these cheesedicks.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy --> 12/9/14

I was at Walmart during lunch hour, and I didn't buy any of them, but I filipped thru just to see what slips were there. I found exactly 1 Groot and tons of Star-Lords and Rockets. No Gamoras, and that was probably the only one I might have picked up. I thought about Groot for a second, but I didn't really like the cover, and I didn't feel like paying 6 bucks extra for a slip. If I'm gonna pay that price, I'll get the 3D version.

I pre-ordered from Best Buy and it sounds like that was a good idea. When I got there around 3 PM and did the pick up, the cashier said, "You're one of the lucky ones. We sold out of these in minutes!"

Coolest steelbook I've ever seen. And they price-matched to $19.99 (I ordered it at $27.99).

Just checked online and it appears all the stores in Oregon save for one are sold out of the Steelbooks now.

For some reason I didn't think Drax had one. I don't know why he wouldn't but I thought I looked thru them when they were posted and there wasn't one, but I just went back and checked, and sure enough there it is. They didn't have any of those either though.

You were right, but there still was a scare. I was behind one guy in the pick-up line and he too was there for Guardians. So the clerk pulls his order and hands him a copy of the regular 1 disc BD version. I was about to freak out, but thankfully I saw many steelbooks in a stack when she opened the cabinet to retrieve the order. And since the guy didn't say a thing I guess he did indeed pre-order the regular BD. Have no idea why, but he must have done just that.

There was probably five other steelbooks sitting there for others to pick up, and the floor stock was long gone. Lots of empty space where they were and almost nothing gone from the normal slots. This location is way out of the way and almost always has exclusives left after the first sale date. The clerk that got me my order said they were all gone after the first two people got in the store. Didn't say how many copies each purchased, but I suspect they were looking to scalp. Should have restricted each customer to one copy like they did with the online pre-orders.

So people don't buy these slipcover exclusives and return the unopened movie without the slipcover?

I've been out of the BD buying game since Dredd came out. Now I return to BB (which was unrecognizeable) for the Steelbook and find out it's this scarce? Times have changed.

I'm watching the Disney Anywhere digital copy on my iPad. It's streaming but looks a lot better than Vudu's iPad streaming quality.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy --> 12/9/14

Couldn't get to my local Best Buy until around noon, and by then, they were already gone. The guy at the store said they only got about 12 total, which is complete BS for something that is being advertised. I agree that with exclusives, they should set limits. Hoping that they just might get some more in on their next shipment on Friday, but I'm not counting on it.

Then went to my local Target, and they also had zero copies of their exclusive version. Which was the same deal with Captain America: The Winter Solider. Pretty disappointing day all around.

I lurk over at the BD.com forums and someone mentioned they had done that in the past.

I already bought the Steelbook this morning but I really want that Rocket Racoon Walmart Exclusive Slipcover. If I can get Wal-Mart to price-match Best Buy, I might pick it up.

Well if it makes you feel better, the Target exclusives of both Guardians and Cap 2 are online content only. So you have to waste your digital code on the Target Ticket garbage.

Retailer exclusive content needs to die.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy --> 12/9/14

This is the only movie I saw twice in the theaters this year, and a third viewing reminds me exactly why that is. I love just about every line in this film.

Won't be an issue for me. I think resellers are the scum of the earth.

Will next week's Best Buy steelbook exclusive of Teenage Mutant Turtles prove to be a popular as this one for Guardians of the Galaxy?
Only time will tell!

My best buy order is still at the UPS warehouse, says it'll be delivered Thursday.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy --> 12/9/14

No dice at my Best Buy. I refuse to buy anything from a scalper, so I'll just get the standard edition. If the 1-disc BD came with a digital copy I'd just get that.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy --> 12/9/14

I normally don't hit BB when it opens, but the timing worked out today. The steelbook was gone in seconds, just in front of me... I was going to take a look and consider it, but the standard 3D looked really cool too, so I'm more than happy with that.

Don't see why these have to be that limited, they could make a lot more and still sell out during release week.

Another cool thing about the Disney Anywhere app is that when you redeem a download code, you get all the special features from the BD as well (or at least some of them, I'm not sure).

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy --> 12/9/14

I don't usually pre-order a movie and do a store pickup because I could walk in they would have plenty of copies. But this time I'm glad I did since it was sold out immediately. It is an very nice steelbook.

The Disney Anywhere app works really well. Sometimes I use the Videos app on the iPhone or iPad and that works well too.
