Re: Which 3D Blu-rays are "worth" it?

Finally got my setup going.... Watched a couples scenes from Tangled to test it out.... As this was for setup so didn't get much into overall effects... Looking forward to giving that a full run...

Our first full movie was one I didn't see in the liat so far & thoroughly enjoyed the 3D....

Three Musketeers...

3D I wasn't too impressed with was:

Titanic (could of had more. Mostly focused on the dining room)
I got to disagree. Titanic looked fantastic in 3D.

I've only seen a preview of Titanic in 3D that was included on my 3D copy of Prometheus. I've never liked Titanic (aside from the exquisite recreation of the ship's interior) and that clip had me tempted to purchase the BD.

Saw Titanic in IMAX 3D... Was very impressed.... I know it won't be as great at home due to screen size... But still expect it to be pretty awesome...

thought the 3D for Man of Steel was terrible. hardly any depth. continued to watch it in 2D and enjoyed it more.

What I find amusing is how a hack director like Paul WS Anderson can film 2 Resident Evil flicks in 3D, yet bigger movies like Man of Steel, Star Trek into Darkness, and the Marvel flicks are post-converted. Who makes the decision to shoot in 3D vs convert it?

I am sure I will get attacked, but I watched the first half of "The Hobbit: The Unexpected Journey" in 3D and switched to 2D after the first disc. I was not impressed.

In the case of STID, Abrams, God fucking bless him for it, is a holdout on still shooting 35mm and didn't want to shoot digital 3-D, so they wound up converting after the fact. Maybe post-conversion is simply less expensive? Obviously post conversion is done when they change their mind after the fact, but movies "shot in 2-D but always intended for 3-D, I assume it's a financial consideration because of FX shots and stuff? I have no idea.

The quality was fine. It was just all depth and not so much that I felt like I missed anything when watching in 2D.

Maybe I am just not "into 3D" anymore.

Re: Which 3D Blu-rays are "worth" it?

Man of Steel was also shot on film, so that's probably why it was post-converted. I reviewed the 2D version here and ended up buying the 3D version also but haven't had time to watch that yet. While I usually still prefer the look of film to stuff shot on newfangled digital formats, if digital is the easiest way to shoot real 3D then that's what should be used for it.

Digital cinematography and projection were taking over long before the 3-D craze, but my distaste for 3-D the increasing push to move filmmakers towards it (and therefore the former) doesn't exactly endear me to it. I'm kind of surprised Snyder still shoots 35mm to be honest, he's so much a product of the digital FX age and the all-digital sets on 300 that I would think he'd be one of the ones who'd jump right into digital.

When I watch 3-D films at the cinema, I tend to find that the novelty is neat for a bit, but either I tilt my head wrong and the LIEMAX dual projectors make things look wrong and give me a headache, or otherwise I simply stop noticing the 3-D after a half hour or so and it feels like my mind sort of "flattens it out," of that makes any sense.

The Lion King has a good 3D presentation. And if you have any interest in Beauty and the Beast, that 3D presentation is outstanding.

BatB was great, but i have little desire to own it. TLK is one of my favorites of all time.

any experience with Dial M?

I've read nothing but lackluster things about it, so I skipped out on buying. The constant high price is also another factor.

I bought at retail price (close to $40) just before it went out of print. I don't regret it one bit.
