Which 3D Blu-rays are "worth" it?

so what i mean by that is which 3D movies make the most use of the format...

i am upgrading my living room with a Sony 3D TV and Sony 3D Blu-ray player. just bottom of the market models. nothing special...

the only one i currently have is The Wizard of Oz.

so which ones are truly "worth" it and are great for the 3D effects and all that comes with it?

I've heard good things about the 3D on Drive Angry, while I haven't tested it myself.

Drive Angry is pretty good. I also like Prometheus, Dredd, Disney's A Christmas Carol, Hugo, and The Adventures of Tin-Tin. These are the reference ones for me.

OZ the Great and Powerful looks great in 3D. So do the conversions of Jurassic Park and Star Trek Into Darkness.

Funny, but I've now leaned towards more paying a little more every time there's a 3D option. I have zero interest in watching just about everything in 3D at the theater, but I do enjoy watching them at home.

now, is the home experience in terms of the 3D effect similar to that of the theater?

i know, for me, Avatar was the only 3D movie that wowed me or did something for me in terms of 3D.

is this grand experience simulated @ home as well for this particular movie (regardless if you liked the movie or not)?

Re: Which 3D Blu-rays are "worth" it?

A couple of reasons why I prefer 3D at home - one is that I HATE the upcharge at a theater just to see 3D. That's bullshit. Another reason for me is that I have an active 3D TV. For some reason, I don't get headaches like I do with passive. I actually had a passive, but sold it because of this. I have a 7.2 system in my mancave along with a 70" TV. So while not replicating the theater, I prefer my setup as feeling more intimate, yet loud and immersive. As for the movies, a lot seem gimmicky (Avengers movies aren't that great - Thor, Captain America, etc), I get good to great enjoyment out of what I've bought so far in terms of 3D we well as achieving that almost movie theater feel and effect. I can't replicate IMAX 3D, but then again I'm not really looking to. And my daughter loves the hell out of it.

If you have to charge your glasses, then it's active. If you can use those glasses that they use at the theater, then it's passive.

Hansel and Gretel 3D. I thought the 3d was just as good at home as in the theater. It is not so much 'in your face' as an immersion feel throughout the film, which I really enjoyed.

People seem to be impressed by the 3D version of Pacific Rim even though it is a postconversion:
