i saw Prometheus in BB, passed on it though bc i already have it on Blu and it wasn't the best of movies per say. But, presentation wise?

It's excellent presentation wise. Ridley Scott did a great job in using the 3D to help pull into the environment a-la Avatar. Not too many gimmicky in your face stuff. And keep in mind there's a kick ass 3 hour doc on the 3D set. If you're on the fence about spending another $19.99 on it, wait until Best Buy's next upgrade and save sale, and pick it up for $14.99.

Huh. Considering the price of most of the 3D I got at Amazon, $19.99 would be a pleasure. It's funny, I have a strange feeling that I bought the 3D version just to get the doc. I will have to check on that...

Holy fuck tres, I actually have the 3D edition, but sold the actual 3D disc on eBay. Ha! Who knew?

is the Avatar Blu 3D the extended cut?

Nope, theatrical only. I think there's talk about the extended being released on blu sometime in the future. Maybe when Avatar 2 comes out in theaters in a few years.

That's weird, because I know the extended cut was released in 3D theatrically.

I just finished watching Pacific Rim and it deserves a place on the list. Even though the non CGI scenes were converted, the converted and native scenes are good enough to place it high on the must have 3D list (if not the very top).

The extended cut was released on BD before they even released the theatrical cut in 3D BD. Everyone expected an eventual re-release of the collector's edition in 3D but it never happened.

Lion King (Is the one I pull out to really show off the 3D. I remember watching it in the theater so many years ago and thought it looked 3D back then, NOW it looks like it was REALLY filmed in 3D.)

Avatar (The movie is Awesome because it was Planned/Filmed in 3D, this one is the standard all 3D movies are held to.)
Hugo (So much 3D Depth in this movie, 3D really adds to the enjoyment of the movie)
Tangled (Different movie, in a good way, in 3D)
Judge Dredd (Must watch in 3D, seems like it was filmed in 3D. 2D does not do the movie "Justice".)
The Adventures of Tin-Tin (Wife made me give it away as a gift, better to give than receive.)
Titanic (One of the best Post Conversions ever for a live action older movie)
Dial M for Murder (3D done right 60 years ago and it is a Alfred H Movie)

-Cars 2, I enjoyed the movie for what it was and the 3D in the movie was enjoyable

Never say never. A small handful of movies were released theatrically in crummy anaglyph 3D, including Spy Kids 3D and The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lava Girl. Analglyph glasses were also used for movies that switched between 2D to 3D mid-story, such as the climax of Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare.

You are correct that 3D movies in the 1950s used clear polarized glasses and appeared in full color (or normal black & white), though.

There are two extended cuts of Avatar. The "Collector's Edition" Blu-ray contains three versions: the 162-minute theatrical cut, the 170-minute "Special Edition Re-Release" (which played in theaters briefly), and the 178-minute "Collector's Extended Cut," which premiered on Blu-ray and (to my knowledge) was never released theatrically.

James Cameron has confirmed that all of the extra footage for all versions of the movie was shot and rendered in 3D. It would appear that Fox is holding back the extended cuts in 3D for a triple-dip release.

Only one I was really disappointed with was Hotel Transylvania because the use of 3D was really restrained- but that's not necessarily a bad thing, as it may have been intended to just add some depth without calling a lot of attention to itself. I imagine those who paid the inflated theater prices to see it felt ripped off though, which is why they shouldn't charge extra for 3D. This Ain't Ghostbusters was rather disappointing too, but I've only watched that once and mainly I didn't like how the scenes with the car driving through the city were entirely computer-animated (poorly at that) rather than live-action. I know, what was I expecting from a porno?

Out of the 30+ 3D Blu-rays I own, Step Up 3D is always my go to demo disc.

I finally watched this tonight. And honestly...it's not bad at all. Much better than what I had anticipated. For a movie made in 1939, they did a very adequate job with it. Nothing reference, but very nice to look at. It's about as good as Creature from the Black Lagoon.

well, i've viewed my first 3D Blu-ray and i am here to tell you it is legit!

i really had no idea what to expect to tell the truth, i popped in my first: Tangled and it was spectacular. the depth, the colors, the lush environments. it was simply stunning.

anyone pickup Jumper 3D? i just ordered it, but was wondering what anyone thought...

Reviewed it here a few days ago. First conversion I've seen that really has the cardboard cut-out effect. Still kinda nice to look at, but there's plenty of real 3D movies that deserve your money more than this.

Great price for that- it's usually so overpriced, I was lucky enough to get a new copy from an Ebay seller for under $20. Bought Step Up Revolution when it came out too (since Lionsgate isn't as greedy as Di$ney) but STILL haven't had time to watch that yet!

Today I gave the 3D disc of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter a spin. I'm surprised this is actually a conversion because it looks as good as native 3D production.

This movie is a guilty pleasure of mine. And yes I agree, I think it looks outstanding in 3D.

Yeah, even sans 3D the movie is great fun. I'm actually surprised I hadn't popped in the 3D disc until now. Boy what a pleasant surprise the 3D presentation turned out to be!

I thought it was pretty damn good - the 3D that is. Wasn't much of a fan of the movie, but my daughter loves watching this in 3D.
