My favorite cover is the 2-disc DVD version, but I'll probably be making my own design anyway.

Maybe. Maybe not. Only Snyder film not to get a DC was 300 and that Owl movie, I think. So I guess those 2 were released as his cut, I dunno.

Though 300 did later get that jam packed Digibook. It'd make sense in the financial to do another BD. Not sure how WB is lately though with their current franchises in the format. Seems like they're mostly one and done.

The film no matter what will be flawed. I'd blame the script. What's there that is flawed at times can be remedied if further fleshed out but some bits can't be fixed. It's a lot of little things...which is a big thing.

I do hope Snyder loses the color grading form that MoS had. It sucked the life out of everything when it got to neutral colors. Grays were horrendous and whatnot. WB better not do that shit to JL. They need color.

has it been confirmed that Walmart will be getting a Steelbook?, because I was there yesterday and the pre-order holder wasn't for a steelbook. It was a metallic/magnetic type of card that u got that matched the picture posted before, no mention of steelbook.

just like it was first mentioned that Target would get a digi-book for Star Trek Into Darkness, and by just checking the link months ago I could tell it wasn't a digibook, but people kept mentioning Digi-book.

Wal-mart.com might be just using the regular Blu-ray/DVD combo pack picture as a placeholder or it might be the actual coverart. There's no indication that the picture on the pre-order card is the actual picture that's going to be used on the steelbook. We won't know until we get closer to the release date.

It's also confirmed over at bluray.com that WalMart will be getting the Steelbook and Target will be getting the DigiBook. The Steelbook is 2D only while the DigiBook will also include the 3D version.

I think its more the direction...extended action sequences, muddled flashbacks, that damned steadycam use throughout. I bet you another director could take the same script/story and piece together a more entertaining film.

Blu-ray.com lists a Target-exclusive 3D digibook but it doesn't look like it actually exists.

So if you want 3D you can either buy the regular 3D edition or the goofy deluxe 3D, neither of which is exclusive. Then the Target and Wal-Mart exclusives are 2D-only and have their own gimmicky packaging and exclusive extras. So if you want a complete 3D set w/ all extras you need to buy 3 copies.

I'm a sane person so I'm planning on buying the regular 3D edition only.

Will there be a separate pricing thread with all the prices?

I think $22.99 for the blu-ray/dvd combo might be the same price at most stores?

Interesting, so on disc 2, they have the movie again, but in a Maximum Movie type mode with interviews and behind the scenes material edited in. Unfortunately the interstitial material isn't broken up separately.

I wouldn't be surprised if WB originally planned to pull the same bullshit that Paramount pulled with STID.

I find this part of the review interesting,

New Zealand: Home to Middle Earth (1080p; 6:35). You can explain to me why this Hobbit related supplement is included, because I frankly have no idea.

Weird. That featurette is on disc 1 of the EE of The Hobbit. I guess they're cross promoting the hell out of The Hobbit or some shit.

No its apparently part of a deal the studio made with New Zealand for tax breaks to film there to have the country promoted on more then one movie.

Despite having a whole lot of problems with this at my lone theatrical viewing, I was still planning on picking this up on disc and just using it as an extended trailer/demo disc- skipping over everything I found inane or wrong-headed.

But then i saw the screencaps in that review and any enthusiasm i had to see any of it again got sucked out the air hatch. Am I really in that small a minority that thinks the visuals for this film/disc are amongst the ugliest they've ever seen? They aren't only stylized in an aggressively artificial way ( which I find completely at odds with a production that otherwise thinks it's 'grounding' the character) but its not even an enjoyable stylization. Besides being cliched and overused, it's utterly monotonous and dreay. Everyone has the skin tones of a cadaver. 90% of those images are teal or orange, or teal & orange. it's so overbaked in the T&O department, I have to wonder if its actally meant to be a parody.

Really wish I could wrap my head around the mindset of people that actually enjoy and gravitate to this aesthetic.

hanshotfirst1138 11-09-13 09:26 PM

The whole aesthetic matches the film, which is sadly dour and no fun. Was this shot digitally or bleach bypassed or something, or did Snyder really just think it was a good idea to suck all of the color out of it in post?

Solid Snake 11-09-13 09:28 PM

Re: Man Of Steel

I'd probably have more issue with the contrast levels. T&O was fine for me cuz of the contrast levels but also...in some bits the contrast levels were not good for certain scenes. I'm looking at you bland cg buildings being fucked up.

Never judge a Blu-ray by screen caps. In the grand schemes of things they mean dick until you pop in the BD.

This was shot on actual film. I didn't see any orange, only what registered to me as blue (teal to me is a brighter color than what I saw here.)

Agreed. Also, the color scheme of the movie seems to be mostly accurate to what was originally shot.

Here's a random shot Cavill took with a kid on the set:

http://media.comicbookmovie.com/imag...3/henrycos.jpg

Another on-set shot with some woman:

http://www.beyondhollywood.com/uploa...4405627772.jpg

Here's a picture of the costume under harsh convention lighting:

http://www.flixist.com/ul/210640-man...tume-photo.jpg

Here's a random behind the scenes shot:

http://spinoff.comicbookresources.co...-costume1.jpeg

Here's a random screenshot of the movie:

http://images2.static-bluray.com/rev...2_24_1080p.jpg

Tweaking was obviously done. It's just not as extreme as people seem to think.

That's not to say that there wasn't tinkering in post, of course. Just look at this extreme example:

http://i1.cdnds.net/13/24/618x412/mo...-handcuffs.jpg

http://www.redcarpetcrash.com/wp-con...P-r5-11351.jpg

But the scenes leading up to and following that one, aren't that extreme.

It's in scenes like the interrogation, inside the Kryptonian ships, when the World Engine is doing it's thing, and Lois in the Artic that have that extreme blue shift. Everything else looks pretty much normal.
