I wish I had known the doc was exclusive to the 3D release when I bought the 2D version this morning. Didn't think to look.

I wouldn't have bought it at all then.

Sucks to find out the hard way but it's been discussed several times in the thread.

I haven't been reading the thread unfortunately. I meant to see the movie in the theaters and my fiancee has been after me to see it so I just picked it up this morning at Target when I stopped in for the E.T. steelbook.

I still want to see the movie but I would have just rented it instead had I know. Extras exclusive to 3D releases are where I draw the line.

That's an understandable position, but I'm looking at it as the 4-disc version is the "deluxe" edition with all the special features and a 3D version of the film just happens to be one of those features. That's how I justify it in my head anyway. :)

same here. This will probably be the future of deluxe releases...

Heh...sounds like the same thing people were bitching about when BD got exclusive shit and the DVD didn't. Granted...this isn't exactly like that but...still.

I couldn't find the 4 disc w/art book at my Target either. They had tons of the 2 disc though. Maybe I'll look at another one nearby tomorrow. This does exist, right?

Could not find a copy of the Target edition in the entire Milwaukee area. Checked 5 different stores. :(

So far I've plowed through the deleted scenes and 2 hours of the Furious Gods doc. Overall, it's all pretty impressive. But I'm now glad they didn't re-insert any of the deleted scenes back into the movie. They don't add a whole lot of depth to either the characters or storyline. The documentary is so damn immense, but very good. Makes me wish de Lauzirika was around back in 1979 to document the making of Alien.

I originally was only going to pick up the 2-Disc, but for another $5 at Best Buy, I had to pick up the 4-Disc.

Can't wait to dig into that documentary!

Agree. The deleted scenes bring nothing to the table, except for the one where Fifield (the Geologist) returns to the ship. That was really creepy and scarier than the original scene. Should have kept that.

Re: Prometheus - 10/?/12

What? The deleted scenes bring a ton to the table; they explain what the worms were and why the biologist acted counter-character from when he cooed the Hammerpede/Snake Alien. They also explained why the Engineer went nuts and it fleshed out the various scenes at the end with an extended fight sequence as well as Shaw's digust/reinvigoration in finding out that David could provide more as to why the Engineers turned.

And the sequence in the documentary hints that there was going to be some revisiting of the Biologist after the snake got into his mouth, as opposed to how it was completely dropped from the film.

The scenes on the whole would have made the movie better.

And the cost is basically the same as well depending on where you get it.

And I would have thought the same way since I've done that in the past. But honestly, I loathe 3D and I don't want one cent of my money going towards supporting a 3D release if I can help. I'd go into the reasons but I don't want to derail the thread.

Believe me that parallel isn't lost on me. The difference for me personally is I hate 3D.

I'm seeing some spoilerish stuff posted regarding the deleted scenes so I'm going to bow out for now since I haven't watched the film yet.

Personally or not. While the format is mostly very weak in it's critical quality....and massively positive in it's financial value in theaters. Prometheus is a film that was done right. I won't watch 3D at home...yet. Not till I see some TVs that work along the lines that I'd want to w/ the format. Also...Prometheus, Avatar, Dredd, and Hugo are the only films where 3D actually mattered. I can't say for the CG animated films out there...only saw Toy Story 3 in 3D and that didn't really do much in the format for me.

And if given the choice of also having it for the sake of more features..than...sure why not? I'm going to get that 3D set cuz of the features...the 3D disc itself is an unintended future proofing for me and I guess a special feature in itself as well.

Bought the 3D version last night at Best Buy for $14.99 using the trade in coupon and a $5 RZ certificate I had. I hate 3D and don't have a tv that can play it but it's worth getting the 3D version for the bonus disc. That 3hr documentary is as comprehensive as it gets.
