How's the art book from Target? Worth the extra couple of bucks?

I am still on the fence whether to blind buy this or not.

it fits nicely in the keepcase which was a plus for me, but it is take it or leave it. just pics. i would have liked some words explaining, but just art work, pics, concepts from the film (nicely done as they are). $19.99 for the 3D set (pm'd to BB) and art book was no brainer for me.

Had a regular BR on reserve at Best Buy but they let me use my reservation fee (which got me the digital download) to go towards the 4-disc version. I also had a $10 RZ certificate and traded in a DVD for $5 credit. When all was said and done, they owed me money, so I got the Rock of Ages BR and only paid and extra $10. I had to go to the shelf to get the deluxe version as they sold out entirely from the display, and only three were left when I found them. Lucky me. I am willing to bet I'm not the only one who is forgiving the 3D force in exchange for extras.

As long as the price difference isn't more than $5, I'm okay with it.

So the whole 10/11/2012 thing meant nothing after all?

^ Me thinks that was meant to be a marketing gimmick and it just got lost, like the rest of the movie. ;)

Is anyone else here using an HTPC with TMT5?
The first two discs in the 4-disc set work fine, but the 3rd disc (Special Features) will load the menus but I can't get it to actually play any of the content. I selected the "Play all" option for the massive documentary, and the screen just goes black and the time indicator is stuck at about 0:00:49. If I move the time indicator myself, it goes into a loop of the main menu, but without the menu options.

:(

I'm in the Milwaukee area as well and could not find it - neither could any of my friends. We probably covered about 6-7 stores altogether.

Do you think there's much chance some would come in future shipments? I am holding off opening mine for now. This takes a lot of willpower!

I've got an HTPC with TMT5. Haven't tried this yet but I'll try it tonight and let you know if I have the same trouble.

I ended up finding the ONE SINGLE copy that the Northridge location got.

I'm not optimistic that future shipments would contain the exclusive. Especially since the exclusive and the regular 4 disk use the same product number at Target.

Good luck! A friend suggested the Chase Ave store, (that was one that I didn't check out.)

The movie was shot digitally with RED Epic cameras, which have a native aspect ratio of 1.78:1. If 15/70 IMAX theaters projected it at 1.66:1, the image was cropped.

My wife was awesome enough to go to 2 other Targets to look for the 4-disc w/ Art book and found it, even though at one store they told her it doesn't exist. Looks like this may be a bit hard to find.

I managed to get it working with VLC (with a bit of trickery), but VLC will only play the feature and won't load the menus. It works, but it's not ideal.

I don't like 3d and im not getting a 3d TV, but i got the best buy 3d 4 disc set because, it was 19.99 after the upgrade save. Plus you get more bang for your buck. How can you pass up a 4 hour documentary for such a low price ?

I'm about an hour into the documentary and man does it go into detail! So far, it's more interesting than the film itself.

For anyone else who's seen it, do they detect a slight note of animosity of the original screenwriter (Jon Spaights) to Damon Lindelof, who did the rewrite? I haven't heard the writers' audio commentary but apparently it's there too.

Hell yeah. I only watched the first 30 minutes, but I got to the part where he talks about how they were "ready to go" with his final revision, then "the studio" brought in Lindelof to give it his magic touch. Dude sounds super bitter about it, even if he doesn't outright say that he thinks it's a piece of shit. Maybe he says that later, though.

I didn't get that sense from the original writer. He stated that he was told several times that first time writers will have people brought in after him to rework it. I did sense a bit of a superiority complex from Damon Lindelof. "Since I was working alone", etc.

It doesn't work for me, either. Typical Fox nonsense ... maybe there'll be another patch for TMT5 in the next couple of months so I can actually watch the disc.

-rolleyes-

Does the US release have the two versions of the script that the other ones do?
