Interesting that there's only 15 min of deleted scenes, and no mention of a longer cut. I'd assume a double dip is inevitable.

This will be the first time I'll actually read a text bonus feature with the original script.

yeah, same here. never cared to read another film's...but this one? Yeah. VERY interested.

So what happened to the proposed director's/extended cut?

Saving that for a double dip of course. Im really interested in the documentary.

I'll only buy it if there's a different cut. The theatrical was a huge letdown. But Ridley Scott is know for revisiting his movies and often making them better. That's a lot of great extras though. Hopefully they make it onto the inevitable double dip. Fingers crossed.

Re: Prometheus - 10/?/12

The Kingdom of Heaven DC came out a little more than a year after the theatrical cut came to DVD. Hopefully the timeline would be the same here. I haven't seen Prometheus yet but at this point if the DC will be the same level of improvement as it was with KoH, I'm happy to wait for it.

Has there been anything anywhere saying that the theatrical version wasn't scott's prefered director's cut?

I would buy "Prometheus: The Plot Holes Filled And Characters Don't Make Really Stupid Decisions Edition" BD in a heartbeat.

Nothing explicit, no. But if you read Ridley's comments on the cut he assembled for theaters, he heavily implies that it was judiciously trimmed to get the core of the film's ideas across.

They were set aside in the deleted scenes. ;)

Ridley's quote was "This is fundamentally the director’s cut. But there will be half an hour of stuff on the menu because people are so into films—how they’re made, how they’re set up, and the rejections in it. That’s why it’s fascinating. So this will all go on to the menu."

Which people interpreted as an extended edition.

You have a point. However, 15 minutes (of deleted/alternate scenes) does not equal to half an hour. So it's still possible that an extended cut may be released at a later time.

Ridley Scott referenced an extended cut himself an interview. There was no other way to spin his words.

^Yeah here is the interview. http://collider.com/ridley-scott-pro...erview/172202/

Maybe it will just be an easter egg?

RocShemp 07-10-12 07:24 AM

A director's/extended cut as an easter egg? Aside from the third cut of Terminator 2 (and that only featured an extra scene and an alternate ending) on BD/DVD, has that ever been done?

I prefer the movie poster look or the one with the room holding the eggs with the large "Engineer Head". Neither of those two do anything for me.

Re: Prometheus - 10/?/12

I'm not a fan of the cover art either. The original poster art with the huge head is much better. The movie studios should stop doing photoshop jobs on the cover art and just use the theatrical posters.

Despite the fact that the Blu-ray cover art doesn't look that great, it isn't a determining factor about whether or not I'm going to buy the movie. I'll definitely be adding this to my collection once it's released. I'm guessing that the PQ and AQ are going to be absolutely fantastic on this one.

As it should be. Crappy PQ/AQ in new releases are flat out unacceptable. I don't think it's a common occurence, I'm struggling to think of a new title where I've read about a bad transfer job.

how about a flick that starts off in theaters w/ iffy PQ and AQ ala EX2? That'll be interesting to see if it actually changes when it hits BD. Regardless of what my opinion is on the entertainment I had of it...those were some issues I noticed. ooof.

I would make an awful reviewer because I noticed nothing of the sort. Maybe I was too distracted by how hard it was trying to be silly.

I don't think that this is usually the blame of the studios as much as it is how the movie was filmed. Sometimes there isn't much a studio can do to save the picture and/or audio if the movie was captured a certain way. Sometimes movies are meant to look and sound bad, such as The Blair Witch Project. I know it isn't a very new movie, but the point is still there. Aside from the tiny budget, a movie filmed on a handheld camera is never going to look great, no matter what studio makes the transfer.

Of course, there are always exceptions when studios such as Echo Bridge release movies that aren't really that old and could look at least decent and don't put any effort into the transfer.

I don't think that Prometheus will have either of these issues. I'm confident that 20th Century Fox will do an excellent job with this movie and it'll look and sound fantastic.

Re: Prometheus - 10/?/12

I probably didn't express myself right, I mostly meant that there's no acceptable reason for contemporary movies that look great to begin with in theaters to look like crap on BD.

Those are the Hungarian covers. Perhaps the US covers won't resemble crappy fanart.

Re: Prometheus - 10/?/12

This was a horrible movie. I like most of the actors are in it but the movie was just bad. The only good thing was that we got to see the pilot being alive in the big chair. It was trying so hard to be like the other Alien movies, but it failed miserably.

Great review. Thanks for posting it in the review thread, versus the thread where people who plan on buying it are discussing its release without threadcrapping.

So I take it this would be a bad blind buy? I am a fan of all the Alien movies (I even enjoy 3 & Resurrection, so there) but it seems that this movie seems to alienate (no pun intended...unless you think it was funny) people the most.

Should a rental be mandatory on this movie. I meant to see it in the theater but never got around to it.
