The way blu-ray.com handled that whole Penton debacle was really bizarre. All Grover Crisp did was state unequivocally that Penton doesn't work for Sony.

blu-ray.com locked his thread and posted the following information (which I'm paraphrasing):
  • blu-ray.com always referred to Penton as strictly a "Hollywood Insider" and never stated that he worked for any particular company or studio. There was never any intent to mislead members of blu-ray.com.
  • Penton had anonynomity and moderator status in his own thread because all insiders were granted those things during the format war and he remained grandfathered into that.
  • We're thankful to Penton for all the information over the years and now we're permanently locking his "insider" thread.

This response just seems incongruous. If there was really no intent to mislead members of blu-ray.com then why not just confirm the truth? Penton could have easily left Grover Crisp's post up and responded by saying, "No, I don't work for Sony, but I stand by the information I've provided throughout the years. I apologize to Mr. Crisp if he felt I misrepresented him somehow in a recent post." Then he could have continued babbling on about soccer and posting youtube clips all day. Instead, Penton deleted Grover Crisp's post, remained completely silent about it, and blu-ray.com shut the whole thread down, which is a de facto admission that they'd been colluding to present him as someone he wasn't.

Re: Blu-ray.com

If you search Robert Harris' posts on HTF, you'll find a thread that divulges into this issue. Some interesting posts in there from members who were active during the AVS format war days.

Re: Blu-ray.com

The disc re-adding isn't terrible. I turned off my phone internet and opened up the application on there. It's taken a little time and I still need to add a bunch of DVDs, but otherwise, no big deal.

The much bigger part is trying to remember who left me feedback and asking them to re-leave some and my doing the same. Additionally, my biggest concern is I cannot remember the user name of the person who was getting me a copy of the Play.com Terminator steelbook.
