Damn it. With that review as well as this one at highdefdigest, I'll stick with my Amazon preorder plus gold box discount. I'd usually wait, but I'm going to cave. I agree that there's no guarantee we'll see it discounted on Black Friday.

Even with the extensive extras, a lot of previous extras are missing, most clearly that almost all the making-of material from the 4th movie is just gone!

Re: Indiana Jones Collection -- Fall 2012

I'll think about it until the end of the week. I want it eventually, and knowing Lucasfilm pricing, a substantial discount may be quite a ways off. I am due to get some amazon Visa credit on Friday after my card closes, which would reduce the cost substantially.

Of course, it's tempting to use that to get several cheaper releases that I want instead. Money's a bit tight for me now, so don't want to drop $60+ out of pocket.

Decisions, decisions...

Yeah, it's annoying when this stuff happens. I have the two-disc DVD (never bought the BD as I got this movie before I had a player), so I'll just keep it to have those extras.

If the only things missing from a BD release are text screens, DVD-ROM features, and/or a trailer, I'll trade or sell the DVD when I upgrade to BD. But I dislike it when they drop documentaries or featurettes. I've kept a lot of DVDs for those.

Pass.

$65 is just too much for 4 films in 2012. This will no doubt be $40 come Black Friday (if not cheaper). I think I'll hold out till $30...these sets just drop so damn fast now.

Yeah, I'd assumed the KOTCS "making of" was going to be the full 80min doc.... but I had the previous release nearly four years and hadn't watched it.

I had some Amazon credit so I went ahead and pulled the trigger (or cracked the whip) for it.

Re: Indiana Jones Collection -- Fall 2012

Got my shipping notice a moment ago. The price match and the Gold Box discount are a good combo for me:

Item Subtotal: $64.99
Shipping & Handling: $0.00
Gold Box Discount: -$3.25
Pre-order Guarantee: -$0.00
Total Before Tax: $61.74
Shipment Total: $61.74

Have to say, this is a lot of money for us to spend on BDs and yet we're going for it. Between this, Jaws, and E.T., Spielberg is seeing quite a bit of our cash this year!

I see a lot of people saying this (waiting till it drops to $40), but that hadn't happened with Star Wars yet (another Lucasfilm property). Maybe it will this holiday season, but I don't see Indy dropping that quickly based on SW history.

^ Maybe not $40, but $50 is not an unreasonable assumption. My strike point for these pricey box sets is 50% of MSRP.

I agree but at the same time, this is Raiders Of the Lost Ark, one of the greatest movies of all time (if not the greatest) and it hasn't been fucked with like the Star Wars movies have been. Paying 10 bucks more to have it now and enjoy it instead of waiting a year or two was fine with me. It hit my gold box the other day and I went ahead and pulled the trigger. If I get 15 bucks for my original set, that helps defray the cost some as well.

Plus, due to Lego IJ, my 8 year old is frothing at the mouth to see this and I am dying to see this on our new 118" projection set-up.

Star Wars and Indy are waaaaaay different.

Star Wars can hold it's price (probably the only catalog title that can, IMO).

BTTF, Jurassic Park etc. saw pretty big drops within a few months. I got screwed on both of them so I won't be buying this.

Meh. I've seen it before, I can wait. I'm really pissed we have to buy the uber-shitty Crystal Skull in order to the get the OT on Blu....they're not getting more than $50 from me.

Also, while both are Lucasfilm, Star Wars is Fox and this is Paramount, so they might have completely different pricing strategies.

I'm thinking Lucasfilm will have at least a partial influence to the point we won't see drops to the extent most people are hoping.

Any future discounts on this set will probably be quite similar to the discounts we've seen for the Star Wars set. Yes, this is Paramount and that one was Fox, but Lucasfilm has a big say in the pricing points for these...as the studio is just acting as the distributor of the Blu-rays.

The "new" DVDs dropped pretty fast a few years ago. Lucas didn't have a say?

The Blu-ray Star Wars Trilogy sets were $30 several times...so $10 a movie. Why wouldn't Indy ($40) be the same?

Because that isn't the "complete collection" or "saga". That alone is reason enough for them to keep that pricepoint high.

I didn't say they wouldn't...I said they'd follow a similar pattern. I don't remember the Star Wars set selling for that low, but I'll take your word for it, as I haven't really been following pricing.

Re: Indiana Jones Collection -- Fall 2012

Has everyone who ordered via Amazon gotten their shipping notice? I ordered mine back on Feb. 29th and it hasn't shipped yet (although they're still showing tomorrow as the delivery day). Perhaps they just have them all ready to go at some of the hubs across the country.

Hence "partial" influence.

I was going to wait, but I just did some random trading at Movie Stop and I had enough to pay this off completely and get Expendables 2 for free.
