WOW! And to think for the past month I have been trying to decide on buying an "Import" from Ebay!

 Finally, though I was sincerely hoping that Criterion would get their mitts on this and gather together a substantial release. Here's hoping Olive Films change their tune and include a special feature or two, but either way, I'm all over this. But aren't there 2 or 3 different cuts of MACBETH out there? And it had a long and eventful production. If there were ever a film that needed a "Making of..." documentary, it's this one. |

Importcds sale extended until 30/6, might be able to pre-order FOE and BOS with the code now (well next week anyway).

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
I read in Blu-ray.com that Olive Films will be releasing Sion Sono's Love Exposure. I really hope this is true as North America hardly gets any these obscure but fantastic Japanese films unlike the UK or other regions.

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
once again Olive are only using less than 15gb for their transfers of Invasion and High Noon. Screenies look good but why not just use more of the disc space?
|
re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
Via HTF, these titles will not be released by Olive:
Fear is the Key (1972) The Long Day's Dying (1968) Macaroni (1985) Promise Her Anything (1965) The Proud and the Profane (1956) The Savage (1952) The Savage Innocents (1960) Shanks (1974) The Turning Point (1952) Warpath (1951) |
re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
DVD Beaver on High Noon
The small file sizes bug me too, but I have yet to watch a transfer of theirs that genuinely displeased me. |

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
More non-releases:
BAJA (1995) BLACK DAY BLUE NIGHT (1995) BULLETPROOF HEART (1994) FEMME FETALE (1991) THE FINAL CUT (1996) THE SEA SHALL NOT HAVE THEM (1954) WITCHBOARD III (1995) COUNT DRACULA (1970) DORIAN GARY (1970) |

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
Yeah, small file sizes really bother me, enough to not support them. Come on guys, kick that meter up to the 30s, and I'm in! It's as if they have a big yellow warning sign that says, WARNING: DO NOT RELEASE THESE FILMS WITH AVERAGE BITRATE ABOVE 20 MBITS/SEC!

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
Ugh, reading that write-up of Johnny Guitar - "weird and wacky", "supposed subtext", "critics (and you know how they are)..." - reminds me why I usually skip the specious and simple-minded summary sections of their reviews.

Uh, good one?

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
Total bummer about "Shanks". At least we got "The Spirit is Willing" and "Project X".

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
Why is EVERY ONE of Olive's releases encoded at exactly 22.00 Mbits/sec regardless of the length of the film? Very suspicious.

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
Four George Sherman/John Wayne Westerns on 10/2:
Overland Stage Raiders (1938) Red River Range (1938) The Night Riders (1939) Three Texas Steers (1939) |
re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
Now I can finally retire my Johnny Guitar and Samson and Delilah laserdiscs.
|
re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
I had forgotten that Overland Stage Raiders represents Louise Brooks' first HD appearance! She looks unrecognizable with her hair parted. It's a pretty routine programmer, but fascinating to watch for Brooksophiles:

Why are their 2 versions of Bound on one bd25? Unacceptable IMHO.

Of course I don't have the disc yet; I'm just suggesting that would be the easiest way to encode two versions with fairly minor differences. |
re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
According to this
http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/dvdre...nd_blu-ray.htm Olive used two separate transfers instead of streaming, and just 2.0 sound too. Rather disappointing. |
re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
Lossy audio too? Really?
Olive, you are not Warner circa 2006-2008, I think. Get with the program! |
re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
And we're finally getting some Ophuls...
October 16th Letter from an Unknown Woman (Max Ophüls, 1948) (!!!) Three Secrets (Robert Wise, 1950) The Slender Thread (Sydney Pollack, 1965) The Sterile Cuckoo (Alan J. Pakula, 1969) Up Tight! (Jules Dassin, 1968) http://i688.photobucket.com/albums/v...imec/olive.jpg |
