re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
Body Snatchers I'm especially looking forward to - I just wish that Olive titles weren't so damn expensive. Between these two, Space Children, Colossus of New York, and whatever other Republic/Paramount stuff they put out in the second half of this year, I'll be cleaned out!

High Noon and Invasion of the Body Snatchers?! Despite extras being dropped, that still makes me very happy. :)

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
This was posted on HTF:
I contacted Olive and was told that Johnny Guitar "is right around the corner." |
re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
^ More good news!

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
Agreed! I consider it one of the greatest American films of the 1950's, so I'm looking forward to retiring my washed-out German DVD.
|
re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
Well, well, well, I'm very pleased! Body Snatchers will be mine.
|
re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
Invasion of the Body Snatchers in HD! Hell yeah! :rock2:
|
re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
Body Snatchers! Johnny Guitar! In HD!
With these two, the Godard releases, and 1900 (among others), Olive is turning out to be one of the most exciting labels. |
re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
in for all 3!

Check out the list of potential Blu-ray Republic titles ... Letter from an Unknown Woman
Have never seen it, but it has a substantial, glowing write up in the book 1001 Movies You Must See Before you Die. Otherwise, IOTBS is my #1 most wanted from the Republic catalog. Thrilled to see it coming sooner rather than later. |
re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
Kinda hate to see these Republic classics farmed out to Olive, but I'm in for High Noon for sure
|
re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
Perfect Weapon is $21.99 on Amazon?! Man, I want it, but that's pretty steep...

It turns out High Noon and Invasion won't be taken from the original negatives:

The original negative for INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS does not exist and is considered lost. The HIGH NOON negative does exist – But this restoration was done off a FINEGRAIN. |

Body Snatchers and High Noon?
Fantastic news. Now, if someone would just get Ferrara's version of Body Snatchers out, I could complete the trifecta. |
re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
I wish that it were possible to somehow remove the tacked-on voice-over narration and framing sequence in Snatchers, but obviously that's wishful thinking. The film is still a classic, but it would be even better without the compromised ending and redundant, atmosphere-destroying voice-over.

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
I know this is kind of bitchy but...I'll have to wait for good price drops for the lack of "sufficient" extras.

Looks like Family Video is the best bet for Olive titles, as they offer them for $17.99 each. Unfortunately, their free shipping coupon expired yesterday.

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
Also Fire with Fire and Firstborn on the same date.

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
This Republic-Olive deal is working well. Next up should be Letter from an Unknown Woman, Caught, Dark Mirror, Secret Beyond the Door, Rio grande and A Double Life.
|
re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
The first Olive release with any extras is The Boogens, coming on 8/7, and including an audio commentary by director James L. Conway, star Rebecca Balding and screenwriter David O’Malley:

What I wouldn't give for a blu-ray edition of Firstborn (1984) or The Boogens (1981) as they never got a DVD treatment. I'm not going to hold my breath though, especially with all of the titles on that list that are legitimately worthy.

Thanks for the tip. Are you not able to pre-order titles? I tried to add Colossus, Space Children, and several other upcoming Olive discs only to be told 'Not yet released, coming soon'. Also, do they ship titles as they become available?

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
importcds is definitely the cheapest for Olive dvds and blus, also Kino blus.
But their pre-orderign system baffles me, for example a lot of the to come Olive titles show up 'on sale' for $14ish but you cant add them to your cart. |
