re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
I've ordered from ImportCDs before and I think I was able to add pre-orders to the cart.
I did have one bad experience with them..they sent me a completely wrong order and it took them days to answer my e-mail...and then more angry e-mails from me and weeks before they allowed me to return the shipment and credit my account (including the amount I paid for shipping it back). They would not send me a replacement shipment after they received it. I did not order from them for months as I was so upset by the poor customer service. My last order from them took almost 3 weeks to get to me as it was stuck in New Jersey for over a week...I have no idea why. But they did answer my e-mail about the shipment within one day so maybe they are improving on their CS. |

Finally a region 1 release for Johnny Guitar. Always hoped Criterion would snatch that one up but just happy its coming out. Hope they do it justice.

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
^ They really are rolling out some huge titles. I don't own any Olive films yet, not that I'm not interested but because they have been a little higher than I want to spend, but some of these titles will likely cause me to raise my spending threshold. I would love to watch the original and '70s versions of Invasion of the Body Snatchers during this year's Horror Challenge. Yes, I'm already thinking that far ahead!

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
i only on AMER from Olive and that's a solid disc...can't speak for their catalog releases. i have HIGH NOON on pre-order and i look forward to snagging most of these releases even if they're around the $20 mark. rather have this than what Twilight Time is doing.

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
DVD Beaver on Run for Cover, Too Late Blues, Denver and Rio Grande and Silver City.
At roughly $16 each shipped from importcds, I can see myself scooping up quite a few of these Olive discs. |

Odd choice, but I like that cover.
|
re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
The cover is really good, but this certainly doesn't bring the same level of excitement as Olive's previous announcements.

No, but they're really cranking them out now. |

I'm starting to love Olive.

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
Honestly, other than Criterion, they're now my favorite US label.

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
Huh, I just watched Pursued last night.
I haven't picked up many of their releases yet (I think the last one I bought was the BD of Fassbinder's Despair,) but as soon as Johnny Guitar comes out I'm going to get seven or eight different titles from that ImportCDs site. |

More August titles:
http://i.imgur.com/03faR.jpg http://i.imgur.com/awxpZ.jpg http://i.imgur.com/D5Oov.jpg Private Hell 55 is minor Siegel, but I always enjoy watching Lupino. I haven't subjected myself to My Son John, but it's supposed to be the most infamous of all the 1950's anti-Communist propaganda pieces. Captain Carey looks like a relatively routine film, but I'd give it a rental. |
re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
totally in for the Siegel.
Please get on to the Ophuls! |

I don't have any yet, but will buy"High Noon" and "Invasion of the Body Snatchers." |

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
I'll buy Secret, but I'll have to give my Dark Mirror DVD a second spin first - I don't think it made too big an impression on me. The other four are films I'd see (and will track down now that Olive has made me aware of them) but likely wouldn't purchase.

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
Olive films releases have been hit or miss for me. I applaud their efforts at getting catalog releases out in 1080p. Most of their recent Blus have not had any digital manipulation of the source (yay! no DNR), but the big caveat is that they don't utilize all the space on these single-layer releases, most of the films have taken only 16 GB of the 25 available. All have been single-layer so far. Cranking up the bitrates would better support the catalog films' grain structure, and the films would be better served. Why don't companies utilize all the resources available, especially when it dosen't cost them anything extra to do it?

 Finally, though I was sincerely hoping that Criterion would get their mitts on this and gather together a substantial release. Here's hoping Olive Films change their tune and include a special feature or two, but either way, I'm all over this. |

Olive Films for the win.
Macbeth is one of the two Orson Welles films I haven't watched yet - super excited that I'll be able to watch it for the first time on Blu-ray. |
