In this case, Making The Grade and The Boost. There's been over a dozen films I had to shy away from. And when they release an obscure film, it's just almost definite, that no other company will ever release them. So, we are stuck with the dvds forever it seems.

Seriously, start adding subtitles Olive. Is it really that cost inefficient? Because you are releaseing so many all time 80's classics.

If you are that serious about subtitles, what some have done is buy the Blu-ray and rip it, then muxing it with the subtitle track from DVD or whatever other source. Not a perfect solution but it does work for some discs.

Olive Films is releasing all 4 American Ninja movies on BD.

And of course the folks who bought the UK SE box set got screwed. Looks like there are new extras on all 4 movies. The U.K. Set only has the 80 minute documentary and 2 commentaries. This one has documentaries on all 4 movies, 2 commentaries and other extras. The link has the details.

Although buying all 4 of these via Olive is much more expensive.

If anyone is looking to sell the UK set that plays in the US player to recoup some funds for the Olive titles, please shoot me a message.

Hmm, all of a sudden I'm seeing multiple copies of The Quiet Man at the used stores and now this is released; somebody must have had an inside source.

Yeah, the minute something is announced, a ton of the original versions show up at local resellers. You can easily find the original incarnations of "An American Werewolf in London," "Carrie," "To Live and Die in L.A.," "The New World," "Blood Simple," "Dressed to Kill," and many others recently announced. The once elusive "Dr. Strangelove" digibook is no longer hard-to-find and it is easily had for less than $10. I own both the digibook and the steelbook and have been debating whether to trade those in and acquire the Criterion version. However the image upgrade is negligible and the only reason to repurchase would be the supplements—likely gonna skip the Criterion version. I just purchased "The Quiet Man," "High Noon" and "Night of the Grizzly" during this last Deep Discount Olive sale for around $10. I am very pleased with those purchases. The discs are terrific and the packaging offers superior graphics. To shell out $20-$30 for so-called "upgrades" at this time is not even a consideration. Sometimes you get less when some titles are re-released. I bought the MGM version of "Mad Max" in the Metalpak and popped in the DVD of supplements that were in the original release. I believe it is far better choice than what Shout Factory provided. I have also sought out and acquire most of the original "Diamond Editions" and "Anniversary Editions" of the classic Disney films on Blu-ray since I consider them superior to what we've seen so far from the "Signature Editions." So, you have to be very careful because you may be trading a superior version for something far less. The rush to sell is motivated by a desire to get top dollar for the existing version but how much are you gaining and how much are you potentially losing? As much as I protest about the needless double or triple dipping I succumb to doing it far too often...

It's OK. Quasi western/horror mix. Killer grizzly threatens town. Standard B western drama interrupted by occasional bear attack. Kind of unique, that's why I like it. Saw it as a kid and really liked it. Not as much now. I own it for nostalgia and it's something different.

What Olive calls Signature Series is what most other labels call a regular release.

The American Ninja movies are apparently selling like hot cakes on Amazon.

3 of the 4 movies won't ship for a few weeks and part 2 is now TBD for a shipping date.

Guess Olive didn't realize the demand.

I'm passing on these because I already bought the 88 Films UK release. This isn't the kind of release that I want to double dip on.

I imagine it's Amazon's fault. Amazon extrapolates inventory estimates largely off pre-orders and related items. Sometimes they do a very poor job with estimates for niche releases. I see it happen all the time in music and movies.

I see Olive has the Cannon/Richard Chamberlain version of KING SOLOMON'S MINES scheduled for Feb. 21.

Not sure why they released the crummy sequel on Blu-ray first, which might put less-informed buyers off this one. I was kinda hoping Shout might've had the rights to it, since it could withstand at least a modest special edition treatment, but I'd imagine Olive will do it up barebones as usual.

Olive Films Announces June 2017 Titles

Whatever your tastes are, we’ve got the perfect films to fulfill your summer viewing needs: an under-appreciated oddity from one of our favorite auteurs, the ultimate girls’-night-in flick, a classic comedy, a Cannon Group film, and a Slasher Video guilty pleasure. These will all be available on DVD and Blu-ray on June 27th, and you can preorder them now through the links given below!

THE SAVAGE INNOCENTS (1960)

https://olivefilms.com/wp-content/up...ts-768x410.jpg

Transferred and restored from original Vistavision negative.

Written for the screen by Nicholas Ray (Johnny Guitar) and adapted by Hans Ruesch from his novel Top of the World, The Savage Innocents, directed by Ray, features Anthony Quinn (Zorba the Greek) as Inuk, an Eskimo on the run from the law, wanted for the murder of a local priest.

With the frozen tundra as a metaphor for the isolation of an indigenous people, where the rules of the white man subvert their traditions, director Ray creates the thinking man’s adventure film with the brutal and powerful The Savage Innocents.

The Savage Innocents features a stellar supporting cast that includes Yoko Tani (My Geisha), Carlo Giustini (El Cid) and Peter O’Toole (Lawrence of Arabia) and is photographed by Aldo Tonti (Federico Fellini’s The Nights of Cabiria, Luchino Visconti’s Ossessione) and Peter Hennessy (Carry On Sergeant).

LANGUAGE: ENGLISH (with optional English subtitles)
TOTAL RUNNING TIME: 110 mins
VIDEO: 2.35:1 Aspect Ratio; COLOR

The Savage Innocents will be available on DVD and Blu-ray on June 27th.

SHAG: THE MOVIE (1989)

https://olivefilms.com/wp-content/up...ts-768x410.jpg

This warm-hearted romantic comedy stars Phoebe Cates (Fast Times at Ridgemont High) and Bridget Fonda (The Godfather: Part III) as young girls on the loose in Myrtle Beach circa 1963.

Carson McBride (Cates), who’s counting down the days until her wedding, and Melaina Buller (Fonda), the capricious daughter of a preacher, will sneak away from home along with friends Caroline Carmichael (Annabeth Gish, Mystic Pizza) and Luanne Clatterbuck (Page Hannah, Gremlins 2: The New Batch) for big time fun and “shag” dancing on the south coast. Through romantic entanglements, broken hearts and some of life’s hard truths, these friends are in it for the long haul. Film critic Roger Ebert had this to say about Shag: “It has a charm based on its innocence, its conviction … the actors in Shag are some of the best of the younger generation in Hollywood, and they treat their material with the humor and delicacy it deserves.”

Shag, directed by Zelda Barron (Secret Places) and written by Robin Swicord & Lanier Laney & Terry Sweeney (based on a story by Lanier Laney & Terry Sweeney), features choreography by Kenny Ortega (High School Musical) and cinematography by Peter MacDonald (Solarbabies). Rounding out the cast are Robert Rusler (Sometimes They Come Back), Scott Coffey (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off), Tyrone Power, Jr. (Cocoon), Donald Craig (Gang Related) and Shirley Anne Field (Alfie).

LANGUAGE: ENGLISH (with optional English subtitles)
TOTAL RUNNING TIME: 99 mins
VIDEO: 1.85:1 Aspect Ratio; COLOR

Shag will be available on DVD and Blu-ray on June 27th.

MONEY FROM HOME (1953)

https://olivefilms.com/wp-content/up...bd-768x410.jpg

In debt to New York bookie Jumbo Schneider (Sheldon Leonard, It’s a Wonderful Life), low-rent gambler Honey Talk Nelson (Dean Martin, Bells Are Ringing) finds himself on the losing end of a proposition: fix a horse race or sleep with the fishes.

Enter Virgil Yokum (Jerry Lewis, The Geisha Boy), an apprentice veterinarian and Honey Talk’s cousin. Fixing the horse race may not be as difficult as originally imagined. But love will throw a wrench into the works when Honey Talk meets Phyliis Leigh (Marjie Millar, About Mrs. Leslie) the beautiful owner of the horse to be fixed.

It’s laughs, love and music in the glorious Technicolor comedy, Money from Home.

Money from Home, directed by George Marshall (Houdini) from a screenplay by Hal Kanter (adapted by James Allardice and Kanter from a story by Damon Runyun) features supporting performances by Richard Haydn (The Sound of Music) as a tipsy English jockey, Pat Crowley (Hollywood or Bust) as a veterinarian with eyes for Virgil, and Gerald Mohr (Gilda) as Phyllis’s jealous suitor.

Note: Throughout its release history, Money From Home has been presented to audiences in either its 3-D version or standard release version. At this time, Olive Films is releasing Money From Home in the standard version format. This presentation has been lovingly restored to highlight the Technicolor photography and timeless comedy of Martin and Lewis.

LANGUAGE: ENGLISH (with optional English subtitles)
TOTAL RUNNING TIME: 100 mins
VIDEO: 1.37:1 Aspect Ratio; COLOR

Money from Home will be available on DVD and Blu-ray on June 27th.

DÉJÀ VU (1985)

https://olivefilms.com/wp-content/up...bd-768x410.jpg

Anthony Richmond, the talented cinematographer behind Don’t Look Now and The Man Who Fell to Earth, directs Déjà Vu, a supernatural thriller starring Jaclyn Smith (TV’s Charlie’s Angels) and Nigel Terry (Excalibur).

Based on the Trevor Meldal-Johnsen novel Always, Déjà Vu features Jaclyn Smith and Nigel Terry in the dual roles of Maggie / Brooke and Greg / Michael. While attending a screening of a documentary showcasing the life and career of legendary ballet star Brooke Ashley, engaged couple Maggie and Greg are struck by the strong resemblance Maggie bears to the late dancer. And Greg comes to realize he shares a bond with deceased choreographer, Michael Richardson, who was romantically involved with Brooke. Is there a connection to these past lives? If so, will the truth behind Brooke’s tragic death prove fatal for them?

Written for the screen by Ezra D. Rappaport & Anthony Richmond and Arnold Schmidt from an adaptation by Joane A. Gil, Déjà Vu features Shelley Winters (The Night of the Hunter), Claire Bloom (The Haunting), Richard Kay (Three Sisters) and Frank Gatliff (The Ipcress File). Renowned composer Pino Donaggio (Dressed to Kill, Don’t Look Now) brings a lush, haunting score to the proceedings.

Déjà Vu will be available on DVD and Blu-ray on June 27th.

Not a whole lot of choices if you want to watch Phoebe Cates in a good movie. Shag was actually a fine effort.
I was surprised how much I enjoyed it when I got around to seeing it.

Already ordered from DD for a good (enough) price.

Glad I sold my R2 OOP Masters of Cinema DVD of Savage Innocents for a profit about 6 months ago.
Kino needs to put out Come and See & Mirror on Blu or hopefully hand those over to Criterion.

That disclaimer/justification on MONEY FROM HOME is pathetic considering the 3D version is readily available and would require no additional work on Olive's part. I suppose we'll have to wait for a double dip, assuming they haven't abandoned their Signature line already. :(

Just noticed that an announcement of a new Olive Signature edition of INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS has been floating around for a couple days now. Not many details yet, but apparently it's due out Oct. 16. Savant's Aug. 28 column mentions some highly desirable extras that were produced years ago but never included on previous releases; commentary, documentary, BTS footage. Sure would be nice . . .

I've been putting off buying the standard Olive version forever, and when Olive first announced Signature Editions, I'd hope "Invasion" would get one.

Olive would have to purchase those extras from whoever owns them. They've always seemed pretty tight with the wallet.

Does Olive ever do sales on its own webstore like Kino and Arrow? None of the noirs I'd like to get are even available at Target (see recent B2G1 sale) or Hamilton Books and Deep Discount's recent Olive sales put very few of their titles actually on sale. DD has several of the titles I want on backorder too, and who knows when they're getting stock.
