Re: Halloween 4 and 5 - 8/21/12

I assume they feel there is a very limited window of sales for the discs, ie. right around Halloween, so if anything is going to hold up the release, they'd rather just drop that thing so they can get the thing on store shelves in time for Halloween and their biggest chance at sales, instead of waiting another year.

I think they count more on your average Joe fans picking it up on a whim than people like us who care about things like commentary tracks.

Id rather have the discs then not get them. So fuck the commentary. This isn't 2002, it's 2012. We should be grateful to even get these at all.

Re: Halloween 4 and 5 - 8/21/12

As long as the picture and audio are at least decent, I don't have any problem with the lack of commentaries and extras. My biggest problem with Anchor Bay is that they continue to use the Dolby TrueHD audio codec. I don't have an issue with the fact that you have to turn the sound up a little more to compensate, but my pre/pro sometimes has difficulty with them (audio drop-outs). DTS-HD MA doesn't give me any of these issues. Hopefully they eventually abandon Dolby TrueHD. They probably won't, but I'll continue to hope for it haha.

Ehhh, I disagree. This IS 2012, and while we all know how shitty catalog titles usually get treated, there's simply no reason to not include every available extra on a disc well capable of holding it. The commentaries won't stop me from buying these in the least, but I think it's very lame on AB's part.

Crazy that "Goliath" Anchor Bay is dropping extras at the same time "David" Shout Factory is adding extras to their Halloween editions.

I have the DVD for Halloween 4, which I liked quite a bit. Could potentially see myself upgrading if the price is right.

Halloween 5 - meh

Yeah, it's 2012. No one buys catalog. These will be $8 in a few weeks. Why should AB spend extra money and/or delay/lose sales for some random feature a dozen or two people give a shit about? Truth just fucking hurts sometimes. I've just learned to shrug it off nowadays. We've been promised these discs for years.

I'll wait for them to hit $8. It's AB, shouldn't take very long.

Re: Halloween 4 and 5 - 8/21/12

update from halloween movies
Hi everyone. We are investigating the H4 footage situation, working closely with Anchor Bay this morning. No official press release has been sent out on this, because we are still working on it, so anything you have heard to the contrary is incorrect.

NEW stuff you get:
These are new transfers and new audio mixes. You also still get the new Dwight Little commentary on 4, and the new Don Shanks
commentary on 5. The H5 raw footage ("Halloween 5: On The Set") is an extended version of what you saw previously, and NOT simply the same little chunk of footage. It is a full 17 minutes.

OLD stuff you get:
H4- Ellie and Danielle commentary. Halloween 4/5 discussion panel from the convention. Trailer.

H5- Dominique, Danielle, and Jeffrey commentary. Halloween 5: original promo. Trailer.

We will let everyone know what we find out about the H4 footage as soon as we can.

But they've also dropped one commentary, two featurettes, and a sizable chunk of deleted scenes.

Re: Halloween 4 and 5 - 8/21/12

For anyone in the area, Dark Delicacies in Los Angeles, CA is doing a signing for both films on August 11th, 2012.

Signing for the Blu Ray releases of Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Meyers and Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Meyers with Halloween 4 director Dwight Little (rare public appearance), composer Alan Howarth, makeup effects artist John Carl Buechler, George Wilbur (Michael in 4), and Jon Chapin (Mikey in 5. The covers will be signed by guests but discs not available until Aug 21st. All pre-orders will be mailed out at that time.

I might go to the Dark Del signing, not sure yet.

And that H4 footage was sounding pretty sweet. Hopefully they figure it out.

Re: Halloween 4 and 5 - 8/21/12

Ian Jane says in his review of V that the second commentary with the director and actors is included, then he says in a blurb at the bottom of the audio section that it is not. Which is it?

Sorry I didn't respond right away. The day I posted that, I drove to Los Angeles/Orange County on Vacation.
