Well, hell. I hesitated on buying because of the issues, and now Amazon has jacked the price back up. I'll be waiting for another sale. Hopefully Paramount will watch their QC a little better next time.

I was just going to post this exact same thing. I have a 5.1 set up as well...I watched Encounter at Farpoint yesterday and didn't notice an issue.

Also, have to agree with those who say the picture quality is amazing...during the opening credits when the ship scrolls by, you can actually SEE shadows of people walking on the bridge. I don't know if that was added in the upgrade or was always there, but I've NEVER seen that before. It's really cool-looking!

Thanks for the Paramount info, I sent them an email. I wonder if they'll require you to send in the defective discs.

That's what I'm wondering as well...depending on how many "hoops" I need to jump through, I may just keep the ones I have, since (as I noted) I really didn't notice much on my 5.1 set up.

There's an awesome little story about these "people" on the restoration featurette, but I won't spoil the surprise. Check it out!

As for "jumping hoops", from what I understand the replacement process is pretty painless. I believe they just ask for an ID code that's printed on the interior ring of the disc(s). No mailing on our part.

Yup, but be prepared for a lengthy hold time - twelve minutes and counting here...

Edit: Just finished with the sales rep, who told me they'll be shipping out on 8/10, and should take 5 business days.

Thanks for the replacement update.

I've actually watched the restoration segment, and I think they're just talking about a shadow that falls across the ship...unless there's another segment on one of the other discs (I only watched Disc 1) that you're referring to. Maybe I missed it?

Went ahead and picked up on sale with faith that Paramount would make it right. Humorously I watched Hide and Q on a friends 7.1 setup and didn't really notice anything wrong.

Glad I picked mine up on sale. I'll just do the exchange which sounds fairly easy.

Maybe it was on Disc 6? Either way, I kind of remember it during the opening 10 minutes of one of the featurettes.

Re: Star Trek TNG remastered on its way for 2012

Dear Star Trek Fans, We have discovered an anomaly in the English 7.1 DTS Master Audio track in our Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 1 Blu-ray Box set.
There are some episodes that inadvertently had their front channel designations incorrectly mapped, resulting in an undesired playback experience when listening to them in a 7.1 or 5.1 Surround Sound environment.
We are quickly working to remedy the situation. Replacement discs (Disc 1, 3 and 4) will be made available free of charge.
Please email [email protected] for details regarding the replacement program.
You may also call 1-877-DELUXE6 (877-335-8936) between 8am to 6pm Pacific, Monday-Friday. We strive to provide our fans the best Blu-ray experience possible and sincerely apologize for this inconvenience.

Anyone get a reply yet via email? I emailed them roughly 24 hours ago and haven't gotten a reply yet. I may have to call.

Just the number circling the hole on the reverse of one of the discs. I'd advise holding the disc up to the light, as I really had to squint to make out the number.

Re: Star Trek TNG remastered on its way for 2012

I just got thru to them, started calling right at Noon eastern. I got the menu/directory loop the first time. I hung up and called back and got put right in the queue. Very nice woman answered a few minutes later. Hardest thing about the whole process was getting the disc lined up correctly in the light to read the numbers.

All they asked for was that number and shipping name, address, phone # and (optional) e-mail. Should be here 5 business days after August 10th.

I don't mean to brag, but I noticed those figures in the Ready Room windows (not the Bridge) on the first OTA broadcast 25 years ago, even on a 20" TV set. They were always there. And I remember pointing out to everyone else in the room that first night, "LOOK! There's people moving in the windows!!" Very cool indeed.

I really, REALLY didn't want to get this blu-ray set. I still have all my OTA VHS recordings (commercials edited out while taping) of the entire series. I've transferred a few to DVD-R, and concluded that the quality was close enough to the studio's DVD releases that I could live with it. Never wasted my money on any of the DVD season sets. Thought I could live without the blu-rays. Trying to be fiscally responsible and not upgrade stuff I already own.

I went to the 25th Anniversary Theatrical Fantom event last week. Presentation quibbles aside (no stereo sound at my theater!! GRRR!), that event, along with Best Buy's low price last week (and the $5 trade-in program) convinced me to get the Season 1 set.

HOLY CRAP, I'M GLAD I DID!!!! I am currently only able to view blu-rays on a smallish HDTV (waiting for our 36" SD Panasonic to die, going to get my money's worth out of it!), but holy crap, the show looks FANTASTIC!!! I've always had some complaints about the video-generated look of some of the original effects, so I'm looking forward to see how they've upgraded those as I slowly work through the set. It's totally worth the upgrade, for Denise Crosby's wiggle down the corridor in "The Naked Now" alone! Even the new bonus features (which I have given a quick look-see) seem more substantial than those on the DVD sets (most of which have also been ported over--thank you, CBS/Paramount).

My only complaint--and I'm probably the only one complaining--I wish they had included the commercial bumpers, the little 5-second music cue with logo that played at every commercial break during the original broadcasts. I guess that would get a little monotonous on DVD/Blu-ray, but dammit, I miss them. They were part of my original viewing experience. (And that's one reason I still have all my tapes!)

Glad to see they are addressing the audio technical glitches with a replacement program. Bring on seasons 2-7!!

I had never watched the show before buying the first season Blu-ray, and had only seen her in Pet Sematary prior, but wow, she is distractingly beautiful.

I feel so old. It took me forever to locate the numbers. I'm not even sure if I wrote down the right numbers because I couldn't make it out clearly enough. I do know the SL part if probably right though! I was able to do this through email and it was pretty painless aside from finding the number.

Yep...and really hard to read! There was also a number in parenthesis BEFORE the SL part and I had no idea if were were to include that as well (I didn't). I'm assuming Paramount isn't going to be nitpicky - they just want to make sure we actually have the discs/set.

I just got the e-mail today. Yeah the 3 numbers were very hard to read.

I'm curious if they will mail the fixed discs and ask you to send the defective ones back in some pre-paid envelope? Or do we just use the defective discs as coasters?

Re: Star Trek TNG remastered on its way for 2012

BTW, I've watched 2 parts of the 3-part The origins of Star Trek: TNG documentary. It's very good so far. Nice reflection of the series.

I'm curious to see what direction CBS will go with future documentaries in these sets and their focus.

I'm just giving mine to a friend - he doesn't have a surround system, so the 2.0 tracks will be fine.
