I watched the first one recently. The first Brachiosaurus reveal looked pretty out of date.

Everything involving the T-Rex still looks frickin awesome though. I've said it more times than I can count, but the first T-Rex attack in the rain is probably the best action sequence of all time and even to this day, the effects are still the best I've ever seen. I would put those 5 minutes of effects up against any other 5 minutes of special effects in any other movie...even stuff that has come out in 2011.

Don't want to derail the thread but any word on a Jaws blu ray release? There really are very few movies left in my collection that I feel the need to upgrade to blu ray. I'll upgrade Jurassic Park and Jaws whenever it comes out. I think that's about it.

Except she looked like she was bored out of her mind (and I don't blame her). She must have been pissed at her agent after that.

After the lady handed her the statue and said "this must bring back some memories" I expected Richards to say, "Not at all. There was never any such scene in the movie that would bring back memories for me."

She has only starred in one thing since 2001....not like she actually has an agent.

From this interview:

And Ariana being present was probably part of the junkets for the release, where they have the person for 5 minutes. Other people actually ask some questions, while IGN has her sit there while they open the box.

Ariana the artist

Not super successful but her art is in some galleries and she has won some awards. Her art isn't bad, actually.

Wait a minute...something I just thought of about the first movie. In order for the dinosaurs to be fully grown, wouldn't that mean Hammond would have to own the park (and the technology) for like 30+ years prior to the events in the movie?!

Good point. Maybe dinosaurs had a very accelerated growth rate. Or maybe all the dinoaurs in the movies were only juveniles--5 years old or something. Or maybe the scientists messed with their dna and stuff and enabled the dinosaurs to reach adulthood in a few years when it would normally take 10 or 20 years or however long.

I just did a quick search and found that it took about 20 years for a T-Rex to reach full size. I guess I would say it's either a massive plothole or it could be explained away by just assuming the scientists did something to the dinosaurs to allow them to grow really fast.

Or maybe Hammond really was working on the whole project for 30 plus years and just allowed all the dinosaurs to grow up on the other island--Isla Sorna. Basically they grew up there and as soon as they became fully grown, they were moved to the park on Islar Nublar. The events in Jurassic Park were the culmination of 30 years worth of work.

Im gonna wait till JP 1 is released. That is the classic. JP2 has some cool shots but overall is a waste. JP3 is unwatchable

I disagree, I was surprised how well JP holds up, it probably has the best effects ever made, better than most in the last ten years. There were some sequences I had no clue were effects until looking at the documentary.

I think since they were the first they put a lot of extra effort into every detail, while new companies just half-ass everything since the standard is so low.

You should see her in person, even better.

anyways yeah i dont know why IGN has that lady do any video features, she is clearly clueless in all of the videos she does. You could even see that she had to think for a minute what movie they were even talking about when she introduced Ariana Richards
"You might remember her as Lex murphy from....(looking over to ariana as if shes trying to jog her memory) Jurassic Park and the Lost World"

Well they didnt just use Dino DNA in them so I am guessing that the Amphibian DNA probably explains the reason why the Dinos are full grown.

I was hoping someone had posted the MR DNA anaimaton from the movie onto youtube but alas all i found was this which someone filmed from their laptop it looks like

ding. ding. ding.

I think this is actually addressed in the book, but it's been a few years since I read it.

See now if it was a G3 sized steelbook I'd be all over it, but since it's only G1 it won't match my vast collection of steelbooks.

There are different size steelbooks? It must relate to how thick it is for the number of discs I'm guessing?

I'm with Gizmo, no thanks on the extra $20. I can get five movies at BB at the next sale for that twenty-spot

A 25Hz filter was applied to the LFE of the BD Master and Commander. The canon blasts and the storm shake the house on DVD. Both are underwhelming on the BD.

There's a thread about it over at AVS Forum.

Funny enough, this is why I never picked up the BD release. The discovery of the 25 Hz filter made me happier with my decision.

That was my first thought. "You can't even get people to agree on what the things should be called and now there are different sizes?!!?!??"
