Re: Jurassic Park: Ultimate Trilogy - 10/25/11
JP thread in the bargains forum, someone said it was confirmed by someone over in the blu-ray.com forum. Not sure if there are pics, but you are more than welcome to go search for them.

I confirmed that in post 142 yesterday.
For those wondering, 2 discs on the left, 2 in the middle and 2 on the right. That's how they are squeezed in there. |
Re: Jurassic Park: Ultimate Trilogy - 10/25/11
Glad I got my copy from Fry's for $35! I would have liked the steelbook but not for that price nor would I have paid the normal $50 for it either, not knowing a place I can get it for $15 less. I'm happy with what I got.

Re: Jurassic Park: Ultimate Trilogy - 10/25/11
I got my set yesterday. The set was in great condition despite Amazon throwing it in a padded mailer.
I haven't watched any of them yet, but it is a little disappointing that the picture quality isn't quite spectacular, based on all the reviews. I assumed any Spielberg film would get top notch home video treatment. When these were announced, I figured at least the first 2 would have gotten a 4K restoration. Obviously Universal prefers to do things on the cheap. Aren't these old masters? At least there's no dispute about the audio as everything I've read suggests the 7.1 mixes are terrific. |

Steelbook is getting awful reviews. Stratches easy, flimsy steelbook. I'll pass on that.

I know some people have elaborate display shelves, however for people who just line things up with just the spines showing I don't think they're too noticeable.
Think I'll wait until next spring for this set... some catalog releases I buy right away because I can't wait to watch em, but for this one I don't feel compelled to (though I enjoy the films)... at least not for the current price. Both this and the BTTF set from Universal just seem cheaply made to me. Serviceable transfers and extras from what I've read, but the presentation/marketing just isn't exciting me for some reason. |

I watched scenes from the different movies and everything looked great. Perhaps people are miffed by how grainy these flicks are?

Re: Jurassic Park: Ultimate Trilogy - 10/25/11
Amazon has now lowerd it to $46.99. I dunno...I guess it boils down to what the individual is wanting and looking for. If they're looking for tru BR detail in terms of video improvement over the DVD then it stands a good chance they'll be disappointed. For the audio side I'm almost certain everyone will be thrilled. For someone who doesn't have it at all then yes. For those who do it's a 50/50 on if it justify to fork out $45+ for better audio and maybe so-so video over a DVD upconversion.

Re: Jurassic Park: Ultimate Trilogy - 10/25/11
Well, the DVD is pretty much a decade old. It would be hard not to improve upon that.

Re: Jurassic Park: Ultimate Trilogy - 10/25/11
I already had the VHS tape, the laser disc and the DVD. It would be a shame not to add the blu-ray to that collection

Re: Jurassic Park: Ultimate Trilogy - 10/25/11
This was posted by the reviewer of the trilogy on the Home Theater Forum:
"We have it directly from USHE that these were new 2011 scans and sound mixes, with full involvement from Steven Spielberg and Amblin Entertainment." |
Re: Jurassic Park: Ultimate Trilogy - 10/25/11
I thought the video quality was great...I was reading things on the wall of Grant's trailer in Montana I could never see before. I'm with the poster a few comments up...reviewers see grain and they think it's a "bad" transfer.
|
Re: Jurassic Park: Ultimate Trilogy - 10/25/11
I see what looks like the proper grain but I also see a less than stellar image that makes this movie look more like one that was filmed in the 70's not the 90's.
i think the picture could have been better. I'd give it a 3 out of 5. maybe 3.5 |
Re: Jurassic Park: Ultimate Trilogy - 10/25/11
I watched JP the other night. The audio was phenomenal. Especially the surrounds. Definitely one of the best 7.1 mixes I've heard. The video, for the most part, was pretty good. Parts looked great, and other parts looked a bit lacking. The colors weren't quite as vivid as I was expecting. I'd probably give it a 3.75/5 or something along those lines.
I'll have to re-watch this sequence again, but the part where the camera is behind the helicopter when they first arrive at the island looked off. It looked liked a sheet of mosquito noise or something similar was blanketed over the image. Maybe I was seeing things, but it looked like something was wrong during that part. |
Re: Jurassic Park: Ultimate Trilogy - 10/25/11
My wife and I thought the video looked great considering how old these movies are.
On another note my local BB still had at least 4 steelbooks this morning. People aren't biting for this one? |
Re: Jurassic Park: Ultimate Trilogy - 10/25/11
I don't know what you people are talking about. The picture is absolutely amazing. Especially compared to the dvds. Much cleaner without the excessive amount of DNR like Predator had.

I'd be down for the steelbook but $20 extra bucks is insane.

Re: Jurassic Park: Ultimate Trilogy - 10/25/11
I got my copy from Fry's, just arrived in the mail yesterday. Question for those who have this (not the BB steelbooks), but is the set 3 discs only? I ask becasue it is supposed to have a digital copy. Where's that located, seperate discs?
