I don't think they necessarily look "like shit" (okay, the one for episode IV does), but they're inconsistent. Some of them look like concept art, some are stylized production stills, and a few choices are just strange. Why have all the faces of the prequel trilogy, and not a matching set of the OT characters?

Gotta love Boba Fett riding that lizard thing.

Now, I suspect he showed us this scene for exactly the thing I noticed immediately upon previewing it. Some of you may recall that on the 2004 DVD, when the X-Wings begin their dive down to the Death Star, the familiar John Williams trumpet fanfare was buried in the mix so you could barely hear it. No longer! The trumpets ring true in the Blu-ray mix loud and clear. When I heard this, I couldn't help thrusting my arms up in the air in a bit of happy relief. I then turned to Matt, who as it happens was standing right next to me, and saw him give a little smile and nod - he knew exactly what I was reacting to. When I leaned over to thank him for fixing it, his simple reply made me smile as well: "Trust me, I read the blogs too..."

When people complained about this in the 2004 DVDs, Lucasfilm said they were mixed that way on purpose. I guess we can officially call bullshit on that.

Every major character from all 6 films are there. Horrible rendering of Carrie Fisher!

That's always been his line. Any complaints about the poor writing, poor story, poor acting, poor directing and he'd say it was on purpose fashioned after the old Saturday afternoon serials. So he spent millions of dollars emulating a $20 serial.

He's always been more absorbed in moving this guy over two inches or changing something some miniscule way with CGI and ignoring the big stuff

Damn that! What's the deal with the "character collage" where Hayden Christensen is 3 times the size of everyone else and the big three - Luke, Leia, and Han - are relegated to a small spot in the corner?!

It's definitely a case of trying to do too much. While I appreciate the attempt to go for a creative approach, it ended up looking like a fan made, unofficial product. Production photos, classic concept art or just black with "a long time ago" text for each film would've been enough.

Ever since Lucas released letterboxed versions of the originals as bonus discs, i've decided to refuse everything they release until they get it right. That was such a sour move on their part, I can't even begin to describe the level of discontent I had toward the company.

It forced me to go find other versions of the films on the internet, and I started with adywan's Star Wars Revisited, which was awesome and came in two versions, a SE version, and a Purist version. It was great work indeed.

Then I checked out Moth3r's version, which was basically the disc I wanted to get back in 2006. This version is probably my favorite, and included are the original sound mixes.

I haven't checked out this new version yet. It says he is releasing a v2, so i'll wait until that arrives, but I can't wait to see it, looks great. Though I suppose now with the blu-ray master arriving, someone will try to create another version of the same project.

That said, I have what I want now, and i'm glad a fan went through such difficult work to make it available, because we know Lucas wont until the well runs dry (will it ever?).

That's actually a "realistic" update of his first appearance in the Holiday Special.

With that and the comment that "you'll have to wait and see" in response to the inclusion of the special, I wonder if a little bit of Hell has frozen over and it is on the set.

That book packaging looks like it could scratch the discs easily.

Not quite. Only the Boba Fett cartoon is included on the set.

these are blu-ray discs...they don't scratch from packaging like this. My Alien Anthology discs are holding up just fine

Yeah, I willing to bet it's clips from it and not the entire thing.

All this special features buzz is enticing but I think I'm going to try and stick to my guns and only get the OT.

.

As much as I agree with your stance, I think Lucas knows there are enough people who will buy the set simply because its SW.

All of my friends who are SW fans prefer the OOT, but all of them will be buying the BluRay Set because they 'put up' with the SE changes. They bitch about changes like Han shoots first, Hayden as the force ghost, and how awful Jedi Rocks is, but in the end, they still love the movies so much, they can live with the changes and just accept what Lucas puts out.

They say to you and me, "Why cut off your nose to spite your face?" Its a catch 22 that I just don't think will change until fans like my friends start boycotting these releases.

My plan is to buy indivual cases for all 6 movies...3 single disc cases and 3 double-disc. The 3 bonus discs will be housed in the double cases with the OT. There are alot of awesome custom cover art choices on blu-ray.com.

I like that Palpatine's giving a thumbs up for some reason.

And Wicket the Ewok's on there twice!

Long gone as in Lucas and team basically destroyed them when they made the original special editions.

That looks awful. I am usually one that says screw the packaging, it's about the movies. But really this whole set is one of the worst looking I have ever seen.

Who did this art?

Man, this makes me really sad. I just read the recent book on Drew Struzan, I know he is "retired" but it's a shame they didn't contact him about doing the art for this set. Would have been amazing.

I can tell the artist wanted to capture Carrie Fisher as she was at the time - high.

Yikes, I didn't think it was possible to make R2 & 3PO look less human, but that artist did it!

[starwarsnerd]I think the one being cutoff is actually Paploo, the one that stole the speeder bike. His head wrap looks different than Wicket and it seems like the fur is lighter. Ears look bigger too.[/starwarsnerd]

EDIT: Or not. Apparently my memory for the Ewoks is on the wane.

It's a flipped version of Wicket. Compare the folds of the head wrap.

Doesn't look like that to me but now I think of it it doesn't look like Paploo either. Not sure why they did that.
