Based on that press release and my post above, I'm not holding my breath. I just don't believe that they would leave them off the listing if they were there.

On the other hand, I hope you're right and it would be nice if they do it right and give us those features.

If they use a BD-50 for disc 8 and most of that stuff was in SD anyway, they could fit a ton of hours on that disc. 20+. All the past LD extras like the '93 Definitive Collection special features, the '95 Faces LD set Lucas/Maltin interview, and the '97 SE LD set "Making of the Special Edition" feature. Plus, anything else they can find. There would certainly be room for the two documentaries if they use a BD-50.

Whether they do it or not, that's another story. Considering what they spent almost four hours on with this release, I don't have high hopes.

A big release will have to have some kind of store exclusive. Maybe Best Buy will get Empire of Dreams and Target will get From Star Wars to Jedi?

Store exclusives don't seem to be part of the standard marketing scheme anymore. For Star Wars I could see a lithograph or something like that, but I'll be genuinely surprised if there are many exclusives or if any of them feature an extra disc. Plus, From "Star Wars" to "Jedi" is as likely to ever be released on disc as the OOT.

From Star Wars to Jedi will never see the light again because it shows at the end of the documentary a shot of the Force Ghost scene with Sebastian Shaw. Does anyone think that Emperor Lucas is going to release any image that isn't in the SE to the public as he re-writes SW movie history?

Like it or not, he did release the unaltered trilogy on DVD just a few years ago. It flies completely counter to this argument. No it wasn't restored or even acceptable for 1997 standards, but it certainly had images not "in the SE".

But but, using your logic there's no reason to call him "Emperor Luca$".

Oh, he's evil and he taunts his subjects. I'm just sayin' his excuse for not releasing the docs wouldn't be imagery. If anything it'll be the things that were said and the logic in developing the OT. All of that was erased by the PT and therefore the docs would be so cut down they'd be 5 minutes long - the perfect length for retailer exclusives!

Well, if it's really not included, there's always Amazon Marketplace, which has the bonus disc by itself if you already hawked your set.

I sold my dvd trilogy (1st ed) to upgrade to the individual releases which included the OOT, but kept the bonus disc. That disc is awesome.

I've begun to wonder if we complained about the re-releases too much. I still think George could have kept the fanbase at bay a little better by releasing the SE's on DVD back in 97 along with the VHS and LD's. Even a simple release, dual sided discs with widescreen on one side and pan and scan on the other, a fourth disc with the docu on the new SE effects. This would have taken so much pressure off LFL in the early years of DVD.

Eh, kinda cute. Though some of the costumes are a little dodgy, especially considering all of the highly detailed ones you see at the con's.

I think they just used the bad costumes purposely, to make it funnier. Just check out the two shots of Chewie's mask, lol. $50 will get you a better Chewbacca mask than that.

re: Star Wars

I received an email response from Lucasfilm. I already knew that "Empire of Dreams" and "From Star Wars to Jedi" would not be on the set or they would have been listed on the disappointing "Star Wars Documentaries" disc.

Some had speculated about the possibility of these two docs somehow being on disc 8. I had hoped they would be right so I figured that it couldn't hurt to ask. The response from Lucasfilm stated that they will indeed not be on the set. Disappointing.

Here's the email response in its entirety:

Dear -----,

Thank you for your recent e-mail. We are as excited as you about the release of the Star Wars Saga on Blu-ray Disc! It will be great to be able to watch them at home (or anywhere else for that matter) in high definition with high quality sound to match!

While “From Star Wars to Jedi: The Making of a Saga” and “Empire of Dreams” won't be included with the BD set, there's a ton of previously unseen material that will featured on the bonus discs; the list from the press release is only a top line, bird's eye view of the comprehensive materials that will be included, and isn’t necessarily reflective of them in their entirety.

Discs seven and eight, in particular, highlight a cornucopia of behind-the-scenes material and footage. Even though the vintage docs aren't included, those two discs alone are steeped in archival goodness.

Thanks again for taking to time to write. May the Force be with you!

Connie

Cornucopia -- I like that word. I've struggled to insert it into my daily vernacular though.

They really do find new ways to lower the bar. I expected the same revisionist movies, I even anticipate so-so picture quality, but I had at least figured we'd get the previous DVD extras. Sigh...

I don't read it that way.

I'm assuming the bolded portion is what makes you think the prequel bonus content will be absent. I read that to refer specifically to From "Star Wars" to "Jedi" and Empire of Dreams. The rest of the e-mail amounts to "There's a ton of stuff on here and we haven't been very specific yet." It may well turn out that the prequel bonus content isn't retained, but I don't see that being admitted here.
