re: Star Wars

Unless it comes with a BJ from Natalie Portman I'll be passing on any new releases.

re: Star Wars

It won't come with a BJ from Natalie Portman, but I have little doubt they'll include a reacharound from George Lucas.

re: Star Wars

As a real Star Wars fan, I won't be getting anything other than the original version of the trilogy. The dvds are fine until Lucas, if ever, comes to his senses and realizes that the original version of the movies are what the people that made him what he is today want.

If Panasonic's involved, that's exactly what it will be.

As for kids liking the prequels, it's impossible for them to understand how groundbreaking the original trilogy was. They just can't understand that the original trilogy changed EVERYTHING. It's kinda like music before and after The Beatles. To them, the prequels have better special effects, so they're better.

At least I've gotten my son to watch the animated Cartoon Network series rather than the prequels. Much, much better IMO!

fixed

This "pack-in" deal people are talking about...I'm unclear on it. Does that mean you'll most likely be required to buy a certain player (or other piece of gear) to get the blu-ray discs? If so, George is gonna miss out on my moolah.

Pack in deal should have been done 3-4 years back.

With Toshiba.

re: Star Wars

I think what will happen is the 3D version will be a panasonic pack in while you'll be able to buy the regular version.

Well, I'm no fan of 3-D, other than a few films, and only in the theater....NEVER at home*. Regular version (if any) for me.

*until there's a holographic version...and only then...maybe. But probably not.

re: Star Wars

These exclusive 3D bundles are just asinine. Glad my interest in 3D is pretty minimal...

re: Star Wars

I doubt the 3D versions are coming anytime soon, but unsure as to another reason why this would be a 'big announcement' aside from the fact that it's coming out.

re: Star Wars

Making the regular blu-ray an exclusive is something stupid enough for me to believe Lucas would do it.

re: Star Wars

If the 3D version is bundled-only, I really don't care because I don't want conversions, but it would suck for those that want them.

That is more along the lines of what I'd expect, too. I mean, I hope they don't do it...but can you think of a better way to move blu-ray players into J6P's Wal-Mart cart? I can't...unless maybe they give away Nascar tickets with them, too. And, then, that'd be another thing Lucas can take credit for ("I established blu-ray in the USA", etc.).

re: Star Wars

There's no way he makes the regular BD releases pack-in only. They're probably announcing that the 3D will be a pack-in. Lucas wouldn't waste the time releasing these on high def only to stifle sales like that.

re: Star Wars

If Lucas wants to help create a large bootleg Blu-ray market for his movies, then by all means, he should make them pack-in exclusives.

re: Star Wars

What if the original original films are pack in only in new HD restored transfers . . . but in 3D only!

re: Star Wars

It's going to be the official announcement that Lucas recut the films again...

But it may be that the Blurays will include all the cuts of the films, Or at least the originals and the new 2011 cuts.

re: Star Wars

It wouldn't shock me the "tinkered" editions will get a barebones, retail release, while a loaded ultimate edition becomes a timed exclusive with Panasonic.

re: Star Wars

I just don’t see any other option for an “impressive announcement” other than a 3D pack-in especially since it’s related to Panasonic. I have not seen one exclusive non-3D pack in title with a TV, at least in the recent months. Maybe in the very beginning of Blu-ray, but not recently. Also, what better way than for Panasonic to be known as the company with the best pack-ins by getting Star Wars 3D.

re: Star Wars

Wait, even better. Knowing Lucas, the announcement will be, the saga on 3D Blu-Ray for $250 with a free Panasonic Blu-Ray player as an added bonus.
