Kick-Ass (Blu + DVD + Digital Copy) --> August 3rd!

http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=4718

Knowing Lionsgate, we'll get a 7.1 DTS-HD soundtrack, which will rule on this. My favorite movie of 2010 (so far). Probably just going to pre-order this one.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has set an August 3 release date for the Blu-ray edition of Kick-Ass, the action movie about do-it-yourself superheroes based on the comic written by Mark Millar and John S. Romita Jr. This Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy pack will exclusively feature a making-of documentary, and a feature-length Ass-Kicking BonusView mode.

In addition, the Metamenu Remote powered by BD Touch, another Blu-ray exclusive, will allow for iPhone OS and Android users to personalize their experience with this state-of-the-art free app. Once connected through BD-Live, viewers can select menus using intuitive gestures, find scenes by dialogue, discover details about the actors, and more. With headphones, they can select to listen in alternate language tracks, or enjoy other synchronized content including portions of the Ass-Kicking Bonus View (which users can take "to go" on their mobile device).

Special features include:
• Ass-Kicking BonusView Mode: synchronous with the feature film, this multi-media presentation incorporates video and audio commentary, behind-the-scenes clips and illustrative graphics with co-writer/producer/director Matthew Vaughn, plus cast and crew providing an all-access perspective on Kick-Ass (BD-exclusive)
• Audio commentary with writer-director Matthew Vaughn
• Documentary: A New Kind of Superhero: The Making of Kick-Ass (BD-exclusive)
• Featurette: It's On! The Comic Book Origin of Kick-Ass
• Gallery: The Art of Kick-Ass
• Marketing archive
• BD Touch and Metamenu Remote
• Lionsgate Live™ enabled, featuring extra content for Internet-connected players
• Enhanced for D-Box™ Motion Control Systems

I'll definitely be picking this up. I missed this in theaters so it'll be a blind buy for me, but I'm certain I'll like it.

Avatars influence of packing in a DVD has worked.

You don't think the fact that Warner and Disney (and even Fox with a couple of titles) were doing that for some time before Avatar had an effect?

+1. If i didn't know that was Mintz-Plasse as the "Red Mist," i'd swear it was a chick.:fart: Hopefully there'll be a better looking slipcover (maybe as an exclusive?) somewhere.

I liked this one enough to pick it up. I feel like it'll grow on me a little more after a few more watches.

 to the included DVD with the BD

No. Please see Avatars marketshare. The included DVD worked for Fox.

Yeah, but I imagine a ton of people bought the Disney discs.

Re: Kick-Ass (Blu + DVD + Digital Copy) --> August 3rd!

^ Not to mention does anyone really think the disc (Avatar) wouldn't have sold so well regardless of the included DVD?? The highest grossing movie ever wasn't going to sell a ton of media?

Do people suspect that the BD sold so well because people were planning on upgrading to BD down the road and picked up the BD + DVD to future proof??

Disney has been including DVDs randomly for the past year. Universal, Fox and Sony only do so with kid movies (and some retailer exclusives from Target). Warner only since the start of 2010. Avatar the first time Fox has included a DVD in a non-kids film. And while we all know Avatar's BD sales would be high, that likely pushed other studios to start adding in DVD copies to just about all new Day and Dates as retailers would be more likely to order more copies of the more expensive BD release to stock vs. DVD. This is the first time EVER Lionsgate has included a DVD copy with any Blu-ray. Avatar will likely push other studios to do the same (and if the price is right, I don't care. Just don't gouge us).

(I am obviously excluding some of the MGM catalog titles as they typically toss in a DVD because they refuse to re-encode a 3 year old Blu-ray with a menu to add in special features on the BD disc).

Since 2009, most, if not all, Walt Disney Pictures releases have included (minimum) at least a DVD. Unless it's a new release, then there's the possibility of two separate Blu-ray releases where one is just a Blu-ray disc and the other being a triple BD/DVD/Digital Copy combo (i.e. Alice in Wonderland, Princess and the Frog).

For Animated (or kids) films, yes (like I already mentioned). Not live action (non-kid) films in 2009:

Adventureland
Beverly Hills Chihuahua
Confessions Of A Shopaholic
Doubt
Extract
The Proposal
Swingvote

All Blu-ray only (some had a DC). FYI Beverly Hills was right before they started doing DVDs with kid movies.

Look at the pathetic 40 or so (how many double-dips or boxsets? Gees) releases Disney had in 2009:
http://www.blu-raystats.com/Stats/Stats.php

You might mean 2010, the year where are in, where is exactly the same - kids movies/animated films:
http://www.blu-raystats.com/Stats/Stats.php
Old Dogs? Kids movie with a DVD
Princess and the Frog? Kids movie with a DVD
Alice in Wonderland? Kids movie with a DVD
Surrogates? Not a kids movie and NO DVD
When in Rome? Not a kids movie and NO DVD

And that's 2010 for Disney. It's June, and wow...they release next to nothing on the format.

Gizmo, I said Walt Disney Pictures.

I wasn't aware that Hollywood, Touchstone and Miramax were all releasing films under the Walt Disney Pictures banner now. Wow, Buena Vista must be going under some tough times.

They all follow under the Disney label. Are we going to play the semantic game?

But fine, go with WALT DISNEY PICTURES, it still holds true. Only kid films and animated films get a DVD, the rest get (at best) a DC. That's how all studios have been moving towards since parents need a push to get the Blu-ray that is generally only going to be watched by children. A bonus DVD is that push. We are not getting into non-kid films that include a DVD, and the first one of that kind (aside from Warner) was Avatar from Fox. And now look - Lionsgates first Blu-ray to include a DVD was announced only a few weeks after Avatar made it's huge debut on Blu-ray (with a bonus DVD).

http://www.blu-raystats.com/Stats/Stats.php

Which one is a WALT DISNEY FILM that was Day and Date that included a DVD and was NOT A Kids/Animated film? Go through all 25 odd D&D releases from 2009/2010 and point them out please.

What difference does it make when it comes to Disney? Disney is arguably the most famous movie studio in the whole world, and their bread and butter is kids and animated films. Some of the titles in question, like Up, probably rank among the highest-purchased BD titles.

I think it was Disney's early success including the DVD that motivated other studios to start including them. Avatar may have just assured that every title from now on is going to do it (was there even a stand-alone DVD release of Avatar or only the combo?) but I don't think we can chalk it entirely up to Avatar without giving props to Disney (I mean, I'm all about the DVD vs. Digital Copy, or at least the DVD/Digital Copy Disc, and I didn't even buy Avatar).

I dug this movie, though I did think it was slightly underwhelming based on all the pre-release hype I'd been reading. Still, I'll likely pick up this set. FWIW, I dig the cover art.

I read in Home Media Magazine last year, that Disney was phasing out the Buena Vista banner and would use the Walt Disney Pictures in most of their movie releases. It was just for branding purposes, not anything to do with Buena Vista going through tough times.

Looking forward to it. Had a great time at the theater with this one.

Wouldn't at all be surprised to see some exclusive artwork at Best Buy or Target, especially with all of the character posters they designed. And, if they do, this one will probably be the big seller:
