Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)
I ordered the UK tin yesterday, it shipped today. I hope everything is playable on my US player, but that was one sweet looking set, so I had to chance it.

Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)
The basic UK version came today. All plays fine in my R1 player.

Are blu-ray and HDTV not restricted by NTSC and PAL, etc?

Definitely renting this first as I only want the first one anyway, and the DVDBeaver screenshots look a little odd to me.

Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)
I already bought and opened this set, so I'm stuck with it. But I would buy a 3-disc set (no DCs) in a heartbeat if it is issued. Maybe that was Universal's plan all along.
This set is just fucking retarded. I don't care if I can get the discs in and out. I'm simply ashamed to own something so badly designed. |
Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)
I just got my UK tin set and I have to agree that it is better designed than the US set. Hubs holding single discs, no springy tabs.
I'm kinda bummed the 1885 Doc & Marty picture is so low res, I would have killed to have a quality pic of that to frame. Oh well. |

If they want to be cheap, just send me the 3 discs in paper sleeves and let me download the artworks. I'll do the rest! |
Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)
I'm used to the packaging now. Of course, I hope we don't get more sets in this form. But it's fairly easy now to remove the discs and put them back. I also got lucky because my slipcase actually fits snug. It seems most of the slips won't stay on for many people.
The HD Room has a story about the packaging and Universal responded by providing a pdf of instructions for removing the discs. http://www.thehdroom.com/news/Univer...Packaging/7694 |
Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)
Out of 2000+ DVDs and Blu-rays this UK package is by far the coolest set I have ever seen. It is beautiful I wish I had more words. As a huge Back to the Future fan -- this is a dream set.

Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)
One thing I never noticed before.... in BTTF 2 when you see the Jaws 19 stuff... you can see "directed by Max Spielberg" on the side of the marquee. Only until I saw this on Blu did I catch that. Max is Steven's son and was born in 1985.

Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)
I just got my tin in the mail today. Its really basic just like a fucking case should be, and I like all the extra stuff it came with. I guess the only complaint I have about it is the tin itself is a little large but I can live with it. If anything I may just keep the case outside of the tin and display the tin somewhere else.

There are many issues with distortions on voices and music, but two that are really noticeable are in Part II:
1) When Doc and Marty first show up in the future, Marty turns down the alley and gets his first glimpse of the future (this is before Doc asks him to change his clothes). The music flares up as Marty looks out the alley, and on the DVDs it sounds like it's underwater. 2) A similar occurence of the music problems occurs when we first see in the window of the nostalgia shop in the future where Marty gets the Sports Almanac. There's a music ad for Goldie Wilson's hover conversion (I think) playing over the scene, and again, the music sounds distorted and garbled. Are these problems still there on the Blu-Rays? Unfortunately, one problem from the Part II DVD was carried over to the Blu-ray: I mentioned a problem in my previous post about the Enchantment Under the Sea dance scene. It occurs when Marty follows Biff up the stairs into the gym while the band is playing "Night Train". A blip sound occurs at 1:15:12 when playing the English DTS-HD 5.1 track and the saxophone music gets garbled for a few seconds afterwards. The problem does not occur on the Spanish or French tracks. |
Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)
I'll be interested in seeing just how "limited" this special edition tin really is. Seems like a lot of things that get slapped with that tag really aren't all that limited.

Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)
I watched part I yesterday and was very impressed. The video was solid with some nice rich color, but I think I was even more surprised by how good the audio sounded.

Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)
Yeah, I really think people made a huge deal out of the DNR issues over nothing. Damn screenshot scientists.
The only thing that really bothered me a bit was the edge enhancement. It only really seems to be a pain when there's some high contrast going on (Marty's dark brown hair against a light blue sky for example), but man, is it obnoxious when it's visible. Other than that, the first film looked good. |

found the blu-ray trilogy at Rasputin today used for $29.99 and it doesnt look like anyone touched it. Guess they opened it and decided to sell it or whatever. Glad I waited on picking it up! :)

Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)
my UK tin arrived yesterday:banana: Its so fricking beautiful and has so much shit on it, very glad I opted for this edition. I stared watching pieces of Part I and II and it looks beautiful so I don't know how anybody could complain but what I certainly was most impressed with was the sound, the mix is just perfect. Very few DVDs or blu-rays even of music concerts have such a pristine balanced, and evolving mix.
PS: I don't know if it has been mentioned before but the digipack unfold too and it has a long picture that its kinda cool http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/customer-...pdp_images_all |
Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)
Got my set too. This thing is awesome. My tine arrived pristine without a mark on it. I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, but for you OCD types out there (like me), I was pleased that there are NONE of those ugly UK ratings logos anywhere on the tin. They're only on the digipak inside and the paper sleeve that came around the tin, which I threw away.

Well, Amazon.co.uk says it's no longer available from them. They do list several "other sellers" who still have it though. |

Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)
I pre-ordered the collector's set from Amazon UK with the Inception set. I hope I still get the BTTF collector's set from Amazon UK since its now out of stock.

If UK Amazon have the same policy as the US one, then you should definitely get it. They will hold it for you until it ships. Lucky for me too! I finally cave and ordered one on Sunday. I guess I just made it. I was waiting until US drops the price and had better packaging without the digital copy in it, but I just couldn't wait. |
Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)
Crap looks like I waited to long to order my copy.

That happens alot at Ameoba Records, they have great prices on what they call blueline movies and music which are titles that are still new and unopened they get from regular people unloading there movies. most of these are promotional copies sent to reviewers and what not. |
Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)
Of course, I don't know that (and I don't want to know or I could never buy from ebay with good conscience if I'd assume that a brand new movie that goes for half MSRP or less was anything but legally acquired).

Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)
Got a notice my tin shipped the other day. Very excited to get it now after seeing those pics.

I've been out of this loop. The the video quality of the blu ray set is not all it's cracked up to be?
