It's less noticeable than before, but there are definitely several spots where the music distorts and sort of sounds like it's underwater.

When Marty first walks to the end of the alley and sees the future is one spot. Another is when Doc is watching Marty's son through the binoculars when they first arrive in the future. There's also another at the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance when there's a pan across the floor and the horn sections sounds really bad.

I've played musical instruments most of my life so maybe I'm a bit more vulnerable to distorted music sounds, but it's definitely there. I went through all the spots and toggled back and forth between the french & spanish tracks and back to the English track and it's definitely not distorted on the other languages.

Unless there's some issue where my player could be processing the HD audio stream wrong and just coincidentally distorting the exact same pieces of music as the previous DVD, there's still a problem with the music mix that Universal doesn't want to deal with.

And it sounds like they're justified in their decision, since you're like one of three people in the world that would notice it.

They were made aware of it with the previous DVDs and didn't fix it even on the replacement discs (I checked and made sure). But, since it's not screwed up on the foreign language tracks it seems like exactly the sort of thing that's not supposed to happen on blu-rays with "perfect picture and perfect audio", especially after making people wait a long time for them.

I realize I'm in the minority here, but there's is a problem and I'm not crazy.

I'm amazed at how many people in other forums and online are treating this like it's nothing to worry about when people have reemed studios over other issues that affect less running time than these three spots.

I've waded through tons of threads with people demanding replacements for colors being modified on Disney films (that no one would notice if they didn't do direct comparisons), sound drop-outs for a split second and framing issues (that actually resulted in more information on the sides of the image). All declaring "we must preserve the filmmaker's intentions!" -rolleyes- I'm sure the sound mixer on BTTF2 didn't intend for the audio to occasionally sound like someone's car radio eating a cassette tape.

In the end, does it stop my enjoyment of the film? No. Do I notice it every time I watch the film? Yes. Does it take me out of the film when I hear it? Yes.

Regardless, further discussion is pointless. The problem is there whether other people can hear it or not and whether or not anyone else cares. I'd be curious to see what some of the site reviewers think of the issue. If they can't hear the difference then they shouldn't be reviewing the audio portions of discs. It's definitely more noticeable than some of the issue they point out constantly.

If this happened on a Star Wars film though there would be 100 pages about it in the first 5 minutes and demands for replacements and George Lucas' head.

I hear ya. I'm still baffled by how few people apparently care about the obviously wrong pink tennis ball and pink toys on the BD of The Shining. Why aren't people up in arms? Why hasn't there been pressure to correct the problem and re-release it? It takes me out of the movie every time.

I'm surprised there wasn't more of a big deal made about that. Kubrick fans are usually more vocal about problems.
