Im guessing Amazon has a huge backlog of orders to fill on all three of these movies so they don't have a ship by date yet.

Looks like I made a mistake preordering from Amazon.

I think this is just Amazon playing games with Disney again, sadly. They've been very unreliable about shipping Disney product until well after street date.

I’ve had pre-orders in from the day they were available on DMC well before the closing announcement and there’s been no movement on the order. Figures this would happen for the Abyss and True Lies -
decades without a proper release almost like the universe doesn’t want it to happen!

Re: Cameron Talks Avatar Redux, 3D, Titanic, Abyss/True Lies Blu-ray

I have over $50 in Amazon GC credits, so I went ahead and ordered The Abyss since it seems to be a pretty damn good release. I saw the one-day re-release last year as well. I want to see how the new 4K master looks at home and it's a super loaded release, so I think it's worth splurging now.

The other two I can wait on until they get more cheaper.

A lot of retailers didn't get their allotment on time. Even the indie labels like OrbitDVD and DiabolikDVD don't have them on hand just yet. OrbitDVD said that they arrived at their warehouse, so those will probably ship out later this week.

For me it is the opposite. True lies w/o a date and The Abyss pushed back to 3/24.

All 3 are out of stock at Amazon. There was really high demand for them.

I take they haven't been spotted in the wild yet? I wonder if Amazon ever got them in.

I went to my first store this morning looking for all three movies and said they didn't receive them yet. I'm checking Walmart this afternoon.

Target was a bust, there was a kid putting out stock from a cart but he didn't know about it and I didn't see any copies in his cart.

Also ran through Best Buy and the one by my work has zero Blu-rays or DVDs of any kind, the display is completely gone.

I did find some Amiibos marked down at Best Buy, got the Metroid Dread 2 pack for only 12.99.

Well I went to both Target and Walmart and they didn't have The Abyss, Aliens, or True Lies. The other store in my area I went to called Vintage Stock said they expect to have all three movies in stock by end of this week or early next week.

I would like a Steelbook of Aliens to go with my Alien version.

This retailer is massively overpriced though. Guess they’re hoarding all the copies

Had no idea these would be so rare so soon after release. I’m glad on jumped on Amazon early. True Lies is on its way and I got a ship date for Abyss, thank goodness.

These are not Limited Edition releases. More discs will get pressed to meet the demand so I'm not worried like I won't be able to buy them.

And they’ll absolutely be on sale for around ten or fifteen bucks eventually, even if it takes a few months. I suppose folks who might clamour for those stacks posted by HD Movie Source are fortunate that they have absolutely no unwatched piles of movies to tide them over until these three are cheap! And then when a sale does happen, they’ll lament paying full price for something they probably still haven’t watched yet.

2 of the 3 titles have never had a proper HD release, so I can understand some early excitement for it and people willing to shell out $25+ for 30+ year old titles.

Re: Cameron Talks Avatar Redux, 3D, Titanic, Abyss/True Lies Blu-ray

The Abyss should be arriving today. Hopefully in time for me to watch it tonight. True Lies has a estimate of the 24th and Aliens has nothing.
This is one case where I’m kinda glad there are shortages. People have been begging for these for years. Even if they look like garbage, at least they’re selling.

Re: Cameron Talks Avatar Redux, 3D, Titanic, Abyss/True Lies Blu-ray

I am not giving in to FOMO, and will be patient. I remember when I missed a couple of windows pre-release for the 4K The Monster Squad, and had to wait until the title came back in stock at sites like Amazon for a fair price before purchasing. As noted, these are not limited edition pressings, so I can wait.

Now that folks are finally reviewing them, I do feel good about picking up all three titles. The reviews are not as harsh as I thought they would be given how much pearl clutching there was on-line over what the actual 4K PQ would look like vs what you received if you only purchased the digital titles of these films.

It really does seem like while the grain removal is glaringly obvious, it is offset by some actual pop in clarity of some of the scenes in each of these films. I guess it could be worse.
