Re: Cameron Talks Avatar Redux, 3D, Titanic, Abyss/True Lies Blu-ray

Scalpers seem to be selling these for double or even triple the price. And there are actually bids. Just a bunch a panic buying.

It also doesn’t help when a third party retailer marks it up x2.

I mean for Christ’s sake, these are not limited edition. There is a shortage because Disney doesn’t have a home video department that is fully staffed anymore and they grossly underestimated demand. And there is only one major disc pressing plant that is in Mexico.

No sign of any of them at my Walmart this morning. Not even empty labeled spaces in the racks for them.

In no hurry to pick up The Abyss. I've waited this long and hopefully will hit $10/$12 by the holidays. Might even get Aliens at that price.

My DMC order has shipped. Wasn’t going to buy them, but decided to get some of the Club exclusives before they closed shop, and couldn’t resist the $13 price.

I plan to check back at my local store Vintage Stock next Tuesday. They said they will get all three Cameron movies but were late to get their shipment this week.

I'm still waiting on my order from a friend who is waiting for DMC to ship it out to him. It's been stuck in processing since the end of February and then the status changed to shipping now or some shit. But my order also included Both ultimate editions of Avatar & Avatar 2, as well.

OrboitDVD just posted on their Instagram that they have received the Cameron 4K disc pallets and to give them a second while they process the inventory. They will probably start shipping later today or tomorrow for those that bought theirs from them.

I would assume if they received them, others have, too.

I'm okay to wait. Only The Abyss is a "must buy" and it's been so long a little more time won't hurt.

Indie retailers, sure. Mass market folk, I'm not sure. DMC is lagging as hell.

Re: Cameron Talks Avatar Redux, 3D, Titanic, Abyss/True Lies Blu-ray

A lot of people online are shocked these aren't readily available in every storefront.

This isn't 1994 when a big new release like True Lies would sell millions of copies and be on prominent display in every Best Buy, Walmart, and Target.

Any modern physical release is still going to be somewhat niche and the distribution will be a bit cautious.

Even Oppenheimer was hard to find because the demand was unexpected given today's media landscape.

True Lies looks merely ok in 4K. The darker scenes are great. Great contrast and rich clarity, but the daytime or lighted scenes look downright bad. Like a faint white cloud pervades it somehow. Or it’s like hyper enhanced or something. But, still glad to have this on physical. Love this movie. Haven’t checked out the extras yet.

The 43 min look back extra is very good. Mostly new interviews with James C. and Arnold S. Lots of interesting facts.

You own a 4K UHD player and TV now?

Or are you just talking about watching the BD copy that came with it?

The reason I ask is because they are two different prints. The BD actually got better reviews than the 4K.

Yes, I do. Very low key Sony model in living room. I only watch there rarely. I kept my 3D Sony in my man cave bc I’m not ready to let go. Plus, it’s been reason I’ve been buying more 4Ks and posting in what’s last …bought…?

Just a note on the Sony… do you have enhanced format enabled?

^ I did. I don’t anymore.

I will say I’m very much looking to The Abyss (EE). It’s probably in my top 5 of all time. I remember me and my lesser movie friendly best friend saw it way back and I was on the edge of my seat. Only one other did that to me and that is my #1 in Die Hard.

The Abyss looks good, but the overprocessing is a little too much for me. Donít get me wrong Iím glad this is finally available, but itís just too digital looking now.

Re: Cameron Talks Avatar Redux, 3D, Titanic, Abyss/True Lies Blu-ray

I bought all three on digital when they were $10 each. I will keep the Aliens BD for my go to from now on as I think it looks 100 times better than the 4K stream. I didn't care for The Abyss and True Lies enough after watching them for the first time in decades so I am not going to bother with either on disc. I am not even going to worry about The Terminator ever coming out on 4k UHD. Way to go Cameron.

True Lies has that waxy look to it, but I thought Aliens looked great (even though it's much brighter than we've ever seen it and virtually grainless). Have yet to watch The Abyss.
