I have no way of comparing it to the BD at this point, but as far as I know, the best overall DVD release is the Hong Kong Legends Region 2 release.

I'm not getting rid of my Criterion release, because of the commentary track, not because of the PQ. The Criterion DVD is washed out and cropped -- badly. I'm keeping my Fox Lorber release for the exact same reason; the commentary track is superb, but the PQ is really bad. I'm 99.99999999999999% sure that the BD, despite its many flaws, will be an upgrade in PQ for me.

Is this based on what the internet tells you or based on your viewing.

It's based on about 10 minutes of viewing after which I shut it off in disgust. At least I didn't pay anything for it.

I bought it, and watched it Tuesday night. Now bear in mind I haven't seen the film since the Fox Lorber release. While I wasn't blown away, I don't think it was garbage. I would say the picture felt soft, but I dont regret the purchase.

I would agree. At one point I've owned both the Criterion and Fox Lorber discs and I would rank this as a marginal improvement. Sure it's disappointing that one of the best HK films ever didn't get the release it deserved, but I certainly didn't turn it off after 10 minutes in disgust.

Here's hoping for a better effort with Fist of Legend next month.

Watching it right now. I don't own any of the other releases, but my friends do, so I've seen them plenty. No disgust, just disappointment. It's pretty bad, but all things considered I think it's an improvement.

Re: The Killer ---> 3/30/2010

yeah, but what about the audio? That's what bugged me with all the other Killer releases... What's the best audio option on this and how does it sound?

What really blows is that we will probably not see another release of this on Blu-ray.

Looks like I will not need to updgrade from My HKL version. I also own the French version with the extended cut.

I am still holding out hope that someone overseas will do this right.

Hopefully Hong Kong Legends will release this on BD in the future and make it the best on the market, just as they did with their DVD.

Agree with most of this... I got it from Netfix and while it is not reference quality it is not even the worst blu I have seen either. Still no excuse for the 1080i but it is still the best this movie has ever looked on the home video format, I own at least 4 different DVD versions and this a lot better as far as picutre quality goes. I will pick it up used from somewhere that way at least I am not really supporting the company that put it out. Someone before me did that.
